NORTH BEND- Celebrate LIFE announces the upcoming transition of Lisa Rothanzl into the administrator position for Birchwood Manor. This position is currently held by Pamela Griffin, President of Celebrate LIFE. This change has been evolving over the past two years while Griffin considered potential candidates in the industry.

Birchwood Manor is a skilled nursing facility that offers both short-term rehab and long-term care services. It has been operating in North Bend since 1965, with Celebrate LIFE taking ownership in 2003.

In Nov. 2009, the position of Birchwood administrator was discussed with Lisa Rothanzl and she expressed an interest.

“Now is the time we have been waiting for,” Griffin said. “We are in a regulatory window without a planned annual survey and we have a solid management team to support her training.”

The training and licensing process will occur over the next 12 months. Rothanzl will work within each department of Birchwood Manor and experience the daily tasks of all of the positions.

“To me, the ideal boss is one who actually knows their employees and what each person does,” Rothanzl said.

Rothanzl will experience her new job’s daily tasks by observing administrators at other facilities.

Griffin said that her role has not been that of an administrator for the past four years.

“I complete the tasks of an owner, with administrative duties bundled into everything – there is no clarity in the administrator role,” Griffin said.

Griffin credits the management team’s competency and dedication in making this transition possible. “The staff and residents deserve more from the position,” Griffin said. “This change will allow the administrator to be present in the day to day activities of Birchwood Manor.”

Griffin said she wanted to stop rumors that the facility is for sale.

“In the past months, staff have approached me about whether we are selling the facility,” Griffin said. “We have no intention of selling Birchwood Manor or any part of the operations of Birchwood Manor. This transition is not a step toward that, it is actually a step toward expanding the services we can provide to ensure we are here as Celebrate LIFE, serving the community for years to come.

Griffin said some of the opportunities for growth, such as home services and outpatient rehabilitation (which is already present but needing more room to grow) will be visible in the next 12 months. Others that require construction, extensive development, design and financing, such as assisted living, may take 24-36 months. In addition to this development, Griffin will continue to provide support for Birchwood Manor through a consulting role.

Rothanzl has been the Director of Operations for Birchwood Manor for the past five years. She is the daughter of Vernon and Sharon Flamme of North Bend, graduating from North Bend Central in 1990. Rothanzl graduated from Midland Lutheran College with a bachelor in Human Services with a focus in Business Administration.

She worked in the medical office environment during the majority of her years following college. Rothanzl and her husband, Kent, live in North Bend with their daughters Caitlyn, 12, and Bailey ,10.

“This transition and training will give me more knowledge and a better understanding of the nursing home industry as a whole," Rothanzl said. "Being able to use that training as Administrator for Birchwood Manor will allow me to serve the community where I was born and raised by providing a valuable service.”
