Veterans plan Memorial Day services

Memorial Day services have been planned at several area cemeteries for Monday, May 27.

The services are being sponsored by the American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff and North Bend’s VFW Post 8223 and the Jeffrey K. Mines AmVets Post 20.
Participants will meet for a 6:30 a.m. breakfast at the Legion Hall, then divide into two groups. One group will lead services at Fleming Cemetery at 8 a.m. and at Cedar Hill Cemetery at 9 a.m.

The other group will take part in services at National and Catholic cemeteries near Linwood at 8:15 a.m. and at Dawson Cemetery at 9 a.m. Paul Shavlik will be the featured speaker.

All participants will present programs at Killian Cemetery at 10 a.m., Woodland Cemetery at 11 a.m. and the Veterans’ Memorial Park at 11:45 a.m.

There will be a veteran doing a reading at Woodland Cemetery. South Dakota Air Guard TSgt Clinton Turnbull will be the speaker at the Veteran’s Park. Hunter Cave will be the featured speaker at Fleming and Killian cemeteries. Mike Virka will be the speaker at Cedar Hill

Kyle Krula, Seth Feala, Desirae Sindelar, Jesse Sindelar, Bernie Wochnick and Luke Dolezal will serve as buglers at these services.

Summit Grove Cemetery, 8.5 miles north of North Bend, will hold a Memorial Day service at 3 p.m. Relatives of the Cruikshank family, the family that gave the land for the cemetery, will be speaking. Men from North Bend’s veteran’s groups will take part in the ceremony.
