Former NBC teacher Bob Feurer retired last year, giving a new teacher the opportunity to set up in the new science room at North Bend Central. But now he is going back to teaching again.

Feurer’s postion was filled by first-year teacher Bernie Nicola. Nicola is also a member of the Nebraska National Guard who has already served one tour in Afghanistan.

Nicola will be in training for a number of weeks with a potential deployment to follow.

Feurer was elected to the NBC Board of Education last November. According to NBC Superintendent Dr. Dan Endorf, per statue he must resign from his board seat to be a member of the faculty.

Feurer will formally take over science teaching approximately March 1. He and Nicola will use the month of February as a time for transition. Ray Kirkpatrick will teach the global science.

The existing Board will select a replacement that will serve a two-year stint until the beginning of 2017. The Board has the authority to select any registered voter residing in the district to fill this vacancy.
