23-year-old dies in vehicular accident

Officers of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Fremont Police Department were dispatched to a two-vehicle personal-injury accident at 4:24 a.m. Feb. 20 at the intersection of West 23rd Street and Highway 30 outside Fremont. The intersection is controlled by a stop sign for traffic on 23rd Street.
A 23-year-old man died as a result of the accident.

The accident occurred when the man, who was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS, west on 23rd Street, pulled away from the stop sign and entered the northbound traffic lane of Highway 30.

As the vehicle entered Highway 30, it was struck by a northbound 1999 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Louis Dohmen, 62, of Columbus. The tractor-trailer was owned by Johnson Trucking of Columbus.

Dohmen, who was wearing a seat belt, was treated and released at Fremont Health Medical Center.

The male driver of the Monte Carlo was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt. The name is being withheld pending notification of relatives. Multiple sources have told the Eagle the man was an NBC graduate.
The accident remains under investigation.

Feb. 21 Update: Tuesday morning, after the Eagle deadline, the sheriff's department released the name of the deceased as Justin Renard, a 2012 graduate of North Bend Central.
