The NBC school board received seven bids on the combined softball concession stand and parking lot paving project. The low bid of $646,000 from Lacey Construction was unanimously approved by the Board.

A pre-construction meeting will be held in the near future, with work on the softball facility to begin this spring and the parking lot project to begin immediately after graduation.

The board voted to adopt the 2017-18 school calendar with the first day for students on Aug. 15 and graduation on May 13. The last day for students is May 16.

The board heard a presentation on language arts adoption from the principals, and voted unanimously to make the adoptions for language arts as presented.
Drivers education rates were set at $250 for in-district tuition and $330 for out-of-district tuition. Dan Watts has retired from teaching drivers ed, so the district remains in need of a teacher for the upcoming year.

Endorf and school board president Dan Wesely spoke about Legislative issues that may impact NBC. Funding continues to be a concern for schools statewide and there are a number of bills being considered that would impact the financial structure of the district.

The Board heard a detailed report from principal Brenda Petersen and guidance counselor Chris Gaughen regarding the career ed program. They shared the challenges of implementation in year one and steps being considered for 2017-18 and beyond.
