Until her junior year of college, Katie Saalfeld had never been to a chiropractor.
Then she suffered a weight lifting injury and after weeks of pain and complaining, she made an appointment to see a chiropractor.

“I thought, OK, I’m just going to go there, get out of pain, and then go on with my life,” Saalfeld said.

As a result of that visit, “getting on with her life” took a new direction. A year later she was enrolled in chiropractic school.

This summer she will be opening a satellite clinic of Dalton Chiropractic in North Bend. June 2 will be the clinic’s first day in the Main Street Wellness Center in the downtown mini park.

Saalfeld, 26, graduated from Midland University with a biology degree and before her fateful visit to the chiropractor, she was wondering what to do with it. Once she learned a little about the discipline, it seemed like a perfect fit.

“I really liked how it really encompassed overall health,” Saalfeld said. “If you want to talk about nutrition with patients, you can. If you want to talk about exercise or stress reduction, you can. I went up (to the chiropractor) and I asked him, so what do I have to do?”

She applied to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, and four months later started classes.

After more than three years of schooling, she graduated in February and returned to her hometown of Fremont to work for Dalton Chiropractic.

With the additional staff, Dr. Aaron Dalton thought it was a good opportunity to branch out to surrounding communities. He remembered that Jana Hall operated her Main Street Wellness massage therapy clinic in North Bend and suggested Saalfeld stop in and visit with her.
