Dan Wesely, who currently serves as president of the North Bend Central Board of Education, was honored at the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association conference as School Board Member Of The Year. He was recognized at the yearly banquet held March 26 in Kearney.

Wesely has served on the NBC board for 20 years, seven years as president.
Superintendent Dr. Dan Endorf called Wesely “a calming influence to any situation. He is a tremendous listener, leads by example, and is quick to find a silver lining whenever possible.”

Wesely received recommendations from Endorf, fellow board members and a Nebraska Corn Board executive where he has served in leadership role.

“I’d say that his greatest gift is an even temperament,” board member Bob Feurer said. “He also does a lot of his thinking out loud so you know exactly where he is coming from and what insights he is using to reach his conclusions. He gives everyone’s ideas respect and listens thoughtfully to them before responding or moving on.”

Attending the meeting were Endorf, Wesely, Jeff Bauer, Feurer and Justin Taylor. Surprising Wesely for the presentation were his wife Dee, and daughters Jennifer Callahan and Melissa and Ryan Hinrichs and grandson, Hayden, 2.
