NBE bench
One of the benches given in honor of former NBE secretary Pat Peters sits right outside her former office window.

Pat Peters’ cheery hello greeted students and visitors at North Bend Elementary. She retired in May 2020 after being with North Bend Central Public Schools for 20 years, first as a para, than the last 15 years as the elementary school secretary. Her friends and family were saddened with her death on Dec. 1, 2020.

As a memorial to Peters, the school staff, family and friends, have installed benches at the entrance to the elementary school.

The east bench has cutouts of children across the backrest. The other reads “There is always a reason to smile!!” certainly a fitting tribute to Peters who always greeted people with a smile.

The Sunshine Committee (a social group at the elementary school) had collected money to help Peters when she returned home from the hospital.

“When she passed away, the Sunshine Committee decided we wanted to memorialize Pat in a special way since she had such a positive impact on so many lives in and around North Bend,” committee member Jodi Dorcey said.
Industrial technology teacher Roy Wright was contacted about his class making the benches.
