Beverly Lassek has a pretty early start to her day. She lives in Elkhorn and drives to her new job as postmaster of the North Bend post office, arriving by 6:30 a.m. to greet the mail truck.

Beverly Lassek is pictured in her new domain, the North Bend post office. She began as the local postmaster Aug. 16.

A 27-year employee of the U.S. Postal Service, she began her North Bend job Aug. 16.

Lassek has served in various capacities in the postal service, including nine years walking a route delivering mail. She spent time in the postal inspection service investigating mail theft, drugs or pipe bombs in the mail, so small town post office looks calm to her.

“It’s such a nice community,” Lassek said. “The people are so friendly, and have been so patient with me.”

Lassek considers herself a boring person, not one used to a lot of small talk. But her friendly smile will greet local patrons at the post office.

In her spare time she likes to fish, garden and read. Her husband, Charly, also works for the post office in Omaha.

Lassek has enjoyed getting to know the North Bend patrons. She looks forward to getting to know the routine, staff and the local people better.

“It’s an adjustment, but a good one,” Lassek said.
