Spring is in the air, and on the ground the Eagle received an update from the Nebraska Department of Transportation about the Highway 30 expressway being built north of North Bend.

Project manager Mick Jacobs said that County Road 13 between County Road S and County Road T was closed on, Monday, April 11, at 7 a.m. to allow for the grading of the new roadway at this location, which is planned to last for three weeks. County Road 13 is 5.5 miles east of Highway 79.

Jacobs also said the grading contractor, Valley Corporation, continues to place dirt and is on target to complete work by the July 17 deadline.
Jacobs said work on bridges has begun and some work on all six new structures has started, mainly pile driving.

Cedar Valley, the paving contractor, just submitted its 2022 schedule and it hopes to start paving in mid to late May.

June 30, 2023, is the target date to move traffic from the current Highway 30 to the expressway. At that time, the future westbound expressway lanes will carry two-way traffic between County Road 11 and Highway 77 north of Fremont where it will join the existing four-lane expressway. A dis-incentive of $20,000 a day will be in place if the deadline is not met.
