NORTH BEND – With a grant to help pay for the North Bend Area Senior Center’s new roof, the North Bend Area Community Foundation has made over $300,000 in grants since it was formed in 2001.

At its Aug. 11 meeting the foundation board heard from senior center board president Rolland Dvorak about updates that needed to be done to the 25-year old building. The roof needed to be replaced after damage from a June hail storm. In addition, an outside door needed replacement, interior lighting needed updates and a freezer needed to be replaced. The Community Foundation approved $5,500 towards the projects.

With this grant, the Community Foundation has awarded $300,008.71 in grants since its inception 21 years ago. Grants have gone to the schools, veterans, arboretum, Scouts, ball fields, welcome signs, city, youth, parks, the city library, for city and village celebrations, and flood relief.

The mission of the foundation is to give back and to build stronger roots in our community. The board meets quarterly to consider grants with the next meeting Nov. 10.
