The North Bend Central Board of Education began its meeting March 11 with some public input. This is a regular part of the agenda with members of the public given five minutes to speak and not more than 20 minuets allowed per topic.

Chris Armstrong, a patron and volunteer coach with the boys basketball team, spoke in support of basketball coach Jon Baehr. He spoke of some of the things Baehr incorporated into the practices that encourage the students to be good people as well as good athletes.
NBC senior Jake Wright spoke about how Baehr had helped him through injury and come to appreciate the lessons learned from the game of basketball.

Superintendent Patrick Ningen reported that the lighting in the middle and high school will be switched to LED with a considerable savings. Voss Lighting has been approved to do the change with Levi Limbach doing the actual work.

The Nebraska Frameworks Continuous School Improvement visit will take place April 18 and 19. This is done every five years and includes administrators and teachers from other Nebraska school districts visiting the district, looking at artifacts collected and submitted by the school, perceptual data, and interviewing different groups of school patrons.

A facility assessment also needs to be done and the board approved the hiring of Carlson West Provondra Architects to do this.

High school principal Brenda Petersen talked about the ACT testing for 11th graders. There will be a practice test March 27 in the gym. The ACT is a required test for all high school juniors since 2016 and therefore is administered at the school. This year it will be administered on April 9. Sophomores will take the Pre-ACT on March 28.
