Dorthy A. Hynek of Fremont passed away Dec. 30, 2017, at her home. Dorthy was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Colon to John and Anna (Rabbass) Hoffman. She grew up and attended country school in the Colon area and lived also in the Cedar Bluffs area and north of North Bend for five years.
Dorthy married George Hynek April 20, 1941, in Cedar Bluffs. After marriage they lived on a farm four miles south of Morse Bluff until moving to Fremont in 1996. George passed away Sept. 10, 2005.
Dorthy was a life member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and a member of the Get Together Granny’s Extension Club.
She is survived by daughters, Sharon LeGrande of Cedar Bluffs, Imogene (Jim) Dow of Clarksville, Ark., Marilyn (Steve) Groeteke of Livermore, Colo., and Tammy (Carl) Groh of Honey Creek, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Katherine Romine, brother Raymond Hoffman, sister Ruby Barry, sons-in-law, Bill LeGrande and Bill Romine and grandson Billy Romine Jr.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff.

Thomas D. Brower of Fremont passed away Dec. 24, 2017, at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont. Thomas was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Fullerton to Robert and Lenore (Heyrock) Brower. He grew up in Fullerton and was a 1946 graduate of Fullerton High School. Thomas served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 in Japan and Korea. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Law School in 1956.
Thomas married Jean Wooden on Feb. 22, 1958, in Denver, Colo. He lived in Kimball where he was the Kimball County Attorney from 1958 until moving to Sidney in 1966. He lived in Scottsbluff from 1969 to 1993, then retired from his law practice and moved to Fort Collins, Colo. Jean died Aug. 12, 2012, and in 2014 Thomas moved to Fremont.
He was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church in Fort Collins, Lions Club, Fort Collins Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, past member of Banner County Bank Board, served on the Western Nebraska Community College Board for 17 years, volunteered at soup kitchens and ran for state senator in 1990. Thomas was an avid Husker football fan, loved to fish and enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Allenspark, Colo.
He is survived by daughter Beth Brower of Las Vegas, sons Mark (Linda) Brower of North Bend, Mike (Liz) Brower of Highlands Ranch Colo.; sister Helen Porter of Lincoln; sister-in-law Marge Brower of Fullerton; three grandchildren, Jackson Brower of Cheyenne, Wyo., Cade Brower of Laramie, Wyo., and Annie (David) Slattery and great- grandson Parker Slattery of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, brother John Brower, and great-grandson Grant Leo Thomas Slattery.
A memorial service was held at Dec. 30, at St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Bend. The Rev. Christopher Howell officiated. Burial will be at the Fullerton Cemetery at a later date.

Arlan F. “Arlie” Eckstein, 65 years, of Linwood died Dec. 23 at Fremont Health Medical Center. Arlie was born Sept. 19, 1952, in Columbus to Frank and Tillie (Focher) Eckstein. He was employed at Valmont Industries in Valley until retiring. He owned Arlie’s Bar in North Bend.
Arlie enjoyed music and was in the band Black Rose, where he played guitar and bass guitar. He had a love for horses and motorcycles.
Arlie is survived by daughters Holly (Brad) Talkington of Aurora and Summer (Jason) Ekstein of Valparaiso, sister Jan Eaton of North Bend and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life was held at Arlie’s Bar in North Bend on Dec. 30.

Talbert D. Allender of Morse Bluff died Dec. 23, 2017, at his home. Talbert was born July 26, 1970, in Fremont to Jimmie and Dee Ann (Buchholtz)Allender. He grew up in Morse Bluff and was a 1988 graduate of North Bend Central High School. He lived in Fremont prior to returning to Morse Bluff. He was baptized one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1986.
He is survived by daughters Morgan Dee Allender of Fremont and Molly (Austin)Edmister of Omaha, parents Jimmie and Dee Ann Allender of Morse Bluff, sister Kristina Dee (Micheal Walsh) Allender of San Jose, Calif.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Albert and Lilly Buchholtz and William and Vilot Allender.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Jan. 4 at Fremont Moser Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Funeral services for Randy Eckmann of North Bend were Dec. 23 at Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield with Pastor Lynde Linde officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield City Cemetery.
Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
Randy Kenneth Eckmann was born July 17, 1968, in Creighton. He lost his battle with cancer on December 19, 2017, at the Nebraska Medical Center Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha.
Randy was the fifth child of seven born to Kenneth and Dona Eckmann. Randy attended and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1987. He excelled at all sports.
Randy started boxing when he was seven, and boxed for more than 25 years. Through the years he won two nationals, a runner up championship, seven Norfolk District Golden Gloves and Midwest Golden Gloves, before turning professional. Randy went on to judging, refereeing, and serving as president of the Boxing Association for the State of Nebraska.
Randy married Missy Heiter in June of 1990. To this union one son, Chance, was born. Missy passed away in 1994, due to cancer. Randy married Jennifer Wood in 1997 and was later divorced.
Randy worked for Great Plains Communications for over 20 years. He enjoyed all his coworkers and their friendships.
He was on the volunteer fire and ambulance units in Royal, St. Edward, Stapleton, and North Bend. Randy was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and sports. He enjoyed the many trips and partying with classmates and friends, and spending time with family. He enjoyed picking on his nephews and nieces.
Randy was so proud of being from the big town of Bloomfield. He loved sharing memories and tall fish stories. He was a great father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be truly missed by many.
Randy was preceded in death by his wife Missy, father Kenneth Eckmann, grandparents Claus and Gladys Eckmann, Lawrence and Florence Carlow, and Frank Juracek Jr., and niece Megan Sage.
He is survived by his son Chance of North Bend; mother Dona Eckmann of Bloomfield; siblings, Cindy (Brad) Sage of Niobrara, Theresa (Rick) Horstmann of Verdigre, Bryan (Teresa) Eckmann of Normal, Illinois, Linda Green (fiancé Jim Davis), and Krista Eckmann all of Bloomfield, and Shawn (Phil) Peters of Springfield, Ohio; father-in-law Max Heiter of Royal; sister-in-law Tammy (Chris) Huff of Pierce; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and numerous friends.

Harlan F. Ladehoff of North Bend passed away Dec. 2 at Edgewood Vista in Fremont. He was born Sept. 24, 1939, in rural Dodge County to Rueben and Ella (Wulf) Ladehoff.
Harlan is survived by his wife Lavonne, daughter Jennifer (Doug) Johnson of Omaha, sons Fred Ladehoff of North Bend and Jon (Kristi) Ladehoff of Sutton; brothers Harold (Gayle) Ladehoff of Lincoln, Harvey Ladehoff of North Bend, and David (Karen) Ladehoff of Arlington; six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 7 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend. The Rev. Chris Howell will officiate. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Military honors will be conducted at the church by V.F.W. Agnes M. “Aggie” Chvatal, 100 years, of Fremont, died Nov. 29 at The Pathfinder House in Fremont. Aggie was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Colome, S.D. to John and Clara (Eckstein) Stritecky. She moved to the Morse Bluff area in the 1940s. Aggie married Francis Chvatal on March 22, 1944, in Fremont.
The couple lived on a farm near Morse Bluff until retiring in 2001 and moving into Fremont. Francis died March 22, 2010.
Aggie is survived by son Glenn (Eileen) Chvatal of Prague, daughter Lori (Jim) Rosenbach of Fremont, sister Lydia Hazuka of Tyler, Texas; four grandchildren: Alexis (Brian) Glover of Olathe, Kan., Amber (Dustin) Bjorklund of Fremont, Eric (Laura) Chvatal of Morse Bluff, and Bryon (Lesley) Chvatal of Prague; five great-grandchildren: Ella Bjorklund, Jett Glover, Reid and Boyd Chvatal, and Brynley Chvatal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother John Stritecky, sisters Sophie Havelka and Adeline Toman, and grandson Evan James Rosenbach.
Her funeral service was Dec. 2 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend with the Rev. Scott Jensen, officiant. Burial was at the Killian Cemetery, near Morse Bluff. Memorials may be given to the Killian Cemetery or American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff.

Leona K. French died just two days shy of her birthday. She was born Nov. 24, 1943, and died Nov. 22 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.
Leona was on the Prague School Board, worked at the onion plant in Wahoo, as a CNA in North Bend and on the family hog farm. She was a great mother and housewife. Leona loved flowers, birds and Sam, the one-eyed cat.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Rosie of Hayes Center.
Leona is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jack of Morse Bluff; daughters Jackie of Maryland, JoAnn (Randy) Prochaska, Morse Bluff; sons Leon (Lisa) French of Prague, Dwight (Ruth) French of Fairbury; sister Sandy (Bernard) Andriyishi of Stratton.
Leona’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be no viewing, visitation or funeral.

Billie “Bill” Don Paden of Fremont, a kind man with a generous heart, was called home on Nov. 12.
Billie Don was born May 24, 1922, in Rogers to Preston and Clara (Reed) Paden. Bill graduated as valedictorian from North Bend High School in 1940. While he was attending Midland Lutheran College, he left to serve in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He returned to Midland and graduated in 1946.
Before beginning his teaching and coaching career, he married his college sweetheart, Eva R. Zessin, on June 6, 1946, in Fremont. They began their 38-year marriage in Paxton where Bill coached all sports and taught. In 1960, they continued their educational journey in North Bend where Bill was principal and later superintendent of the district. In 1968, they moved to McCook, where he was principal of the high school. Their last move was to Fremont where he worked for Midland for several years. He received post graduate degrees from Northern Colorado University and University of Nebraska – Lincoln. In 1984, he lost Eve to cancer and became semi-retired.
Bill married Lois Peterson on May 16, 1992, and they began their retirement journey. He continued his love of reading, golfing, enjoying the wildlife on the lake and seeing his grandchildren. He was always known to be watching and supporting Midland and Husker sports events, as well as his beloved Royals. He was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont, North Bend Masonic Lodge 119 A.F. and A.M. and American Legion Post 20.
He is survived by his wife Lois of Fremont; son Dr. Steve (Deb) Paden and daughter Sheri Paden all of Lincoln; grandchildren Ben (Reyna-Marie) Dubisar of Tuscon, Ariz., Kelly Dubisar of San Francisco, Calif., and Stephanie Paden of Lincoln; great-grandchild Marchant Dubisar of Tuscon. He is also survived by Lois’s family: sons Steve (Sandy) Peterson, Lynn (Ginny) Peterson, both of Omaha; daughters, Jan (Skip) Stout of Broken Arrow, Okla., Mary (Brody) Choy of San Francisco, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Nov. 17 at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont. Burial with military honors was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Robert L. “Bob” Clausen of Fremont passed away Nov. 6. Bob was born Feb. 28, 1953, in Fremont to Alfred and Alice (Timm) Clausen. He grew up in rural Dodge County and graduated from Scribner High School in 1971. Bob married the love of his live, Nancy (Hovenden), in 1972 at North Bend.
Bob was active in farming all his life and was also general manager at Kisgen Manufacturing in Fremont from 1985 to 1997. He served on the Maple Creek and Pleasant Valley Township Boards. Bob recently retired from the Lower Platte North NRD and LARM Boards. He was currently employed as a Crop Adjuster for Pro Ag. Crop Insurance.
Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His world revolved around his daughters and beloved grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife Nancy, Fremont; daughters Melissa, Dallas, Texas, Angie (Britt) Scott, Ames; mother Alice Clausen, Fremont; grandchildren Branden, Morgan, Hunter and Charlie; sister Janelle (Gail) Luedke, Hickman; mother-in-law Evelyn Hovenden, Fremont; sisters-in -law Shirley Kolm, Sand Point, Idaho, Carol Hovenden, Las Vegas, Nev., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Alfred Clausen, daughter Lynn Clausen Menze and father-in-law Charles Hovenden.
Funeral service was Nov. 11 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. Burial was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

James Lawrence Coen was born August 29, 1933, in North Bend. He died November 6, 2017, at his home in North Bend.
He graduated from North Bend High School in 1951. He became a land surveyor and professional engineer.
Jim was married to Betty R. (Drevo) Coen. He loved his horses and family.
There are no public services and the family requests no cards or flowers be sent.

Richard “Dick” Jurgens passed away Oct. 30 at Birchwood Manor.
He was born May 30, 1931, in Fort Crook to William (Jack) and Petrina (Christiansen) Jurgens. Dick grew up on a farm near Fort Crook. He attended Fort Crook School District 40 in Sarpy County. Dick served in the United States Army Corps during the Korea War from 1952 to 1954.
Dick married Betty Leitgeb on Feb. 16, 1957, in Papillion. They began their life together in Papillion, working for Omaha Flour Mill. The family moved to North Bend in 1962. Dick was employed at Fremont Grain Elevator. In 1969 he went to work at Schuyler Packing as quality control inspector. He owned Custom Fumigation with his brother-in-law, and was a territory service representative for Ciba-Geigy. He later worked for North Bend Central High School as a transportation aide.
Dick was a member of the North Bend United Presbyterian Church, North Bend VFW and Fremont Eagles. Dick enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening. He loved cooking for his family and others. He was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always enjoyed spending time with his family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Betty of North Bend, son Brian (Julie) Jurgens of North Bend, daughter Diana (Rich) Novak of Gretna, grandchildren Christine (LeRoy) Bax, William (Laurie) Novak, Steven Novak, Nathan Jurgens, Tyler Hongola, and Katelyn Hongola, great-grandchildren Lilly, Cody and Alexander, sister Helen Sinnett of La Vista, brother David Jurgens of Chariton, Iowa, sisters-in-law Annabella Vermeline and Dottie Hraban and brother-in-law, George Wonka.
He was proceeded in death by his parents.

Patricia Schultz of David City died Oct. 26 at the St. Joseph’s Villa in David City.
A memorial Mass will be Friday, Nov. 17 at  St. Mary’s Catholic Church, David City, with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m. The Reverend Bernard Kimminau will be the celebrant.

Patricia Ann “Patty” Schultz was born Nov. 14, 1931, in Albion to Theodore A. Redler Sr. and Leta Marie (Watts) Redler. Patty lived her life to the fullest.  She attended country school, grades 1 - 8 at District 9 and then went to Albion Public High School, graduating in May 1949. 
Patty met and dated her husband, Carroll J. Shockey of Newman Grove, and  married him Jan. 14, 1950. Carroll died March 16, 1972, in Blair. There were four children born to this union:  Kathleen Ann McLaughlin, Genoa; David Allen, (Cynthia LeMaster), Lincoln; Jeannie Marie (Jason Laytart), Phoenix, Ariz.; and Teresa Jane Shockey, Fremont. Patty also had seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Patty raised her family and worked most of her life to help keep the family afloat. She loved to work her Cameo Painted Clothes business and going to state fairs to sell her products along with her sales people.
She also loved to cook and was a very good cook for her bar and restaurant in North Bend, along with her second husband Dwight G. Schultz, whom she married Sept. 15, 1978, in Columbus.
Patty also loved family genealogy after she retired and attending the family reunions. Her main reason for living was for all of her family. To be around them was her goal in life.
The surviving family are her husband Dwight G. Schultz who is living with his children in Texas and Iowa. Also brothers James (Mary Jane) Redler of David City, Benedict (Lynda) Redler, Marble Falls, Texas; sister Dorothy Redler of Gainesville, Ga.; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death were her father and mother, first husband Carroll J. Shockey and daughter Teresa Jane Shockey. Pat’s wishes were to be cremated, and have a celebration of life ceremony and the interment at a later date by private invitation at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Lincoln.

Rebecca M. Renner of rural North Bend died Oct. 12 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Rebecca was born March 12, 1953, in Fremont to Harold and Helen (Curnes) Spath.
She was a graduate of Snyder High School and received her LPN degree from Mid Plains Community College of North Platte.
Rebecca married Warren Renner on Nov. 3, 1973, in Snyder. She worked at Hooper Care Center and numerous other care centers.
Rebecca was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of North Bend and North Bend FFA Alumni. She was a Girl Scout leader, Youth Group Leader at St. Peter, and belonged to St. Peter Ladies Aid. Rebecca was also a member of VFW Auxiliary of North Bend and the North Bend Elementary School Board.
She is survived by her husband Warren; sons Joshua Renner of Minneapolis, Minn., Blayne (Amanda) Renner of Lincoln; daughters Stacie (Clint) Turnbull of Thayer, Reba (Bart) Deterding of Cambridge; brothers Jim (Mary) Spath of North Bend, Fred (Doreen) Spath of Urbandale, Iowa, Steward (Kristine) Spath of Eagle; sister Treva (Larry) Farris of Nebraska City; sister-in-law Karen (Gary) McVicker of Hampton, Iowa; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Roger Spath and granddaughter Jayde Deterding.
Her funeral service was Oct. 16 at North Bend’s St. Peter Lutheran Church. The Rev. Christopher Howell officiated.
Burial was at St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Pleasant Valley located northwest of North Bend.

Janet Faye Merryweather of North Bend passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Oct. 11 at her home. She was born in Carroll, Iowa, on Aug. 10, 1935, to Lafayette and Alice (Segebart) Schoenjahn.
Janet attended schools in Carroll and was a 1953 graduate of Carroll High School. She attended business school in Omaha.
Janet married Ron Merryweather on Sept. 20, 1958, in Carroll. They moved to Fremont in 1958 and to North Bend in 1966. Janet was employed at North Bend Insurance Agency for 43 years. She was a member of the North Bend United Presbyterian Church, P.E.O., and the community choirs. She lived a life full of passion for family, music, and quilting.
Janet is survived by her husband Ron of North Bend; son Michael (Linda) Merryweather of North Bend; daughters Lee Ann (Dan) Kingry of Fremont, Melinn (Mark) Brandt of Fort Collins, Colo.; sister Jo Ann Kaney of San Diego, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service was held Oct. 16 at United Presbyterian Church in North Bend. The Rev. Michael Hill officiated. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend at a later date.

Norbert James Staley was born Feb. 25, 1923 in Charter Oak, Iowa. He died Sept. 24 in Henderson, Nev.
Staley served in the Army Air Corps in WWII and retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 1982.
He is survived by wife, Nancy Staley of Fremont; children Chaddie (Walter) Centuori, Jerry (Sally) Staley, all of Las Vegas, Maureen (Reid) Jacobson of Omaha; stepchildren Susan (Dan) Hartman, Kevin (Janet) Ferguson, Diane (Roch) Emanuel, all of North Bend; sister line Bauer of Racine,Wi. and sisters-in-law Mary Staley, of Philidelphia, Penn., and Chaddie Tawney of Fremont; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by wife Mary Agnes (O’Hare) Staley and brother Philip Staley.
A memorial service will be held Oct. 13, 10 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Church, North Bend.

John V. Lantefield passed away at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford on Sept. 14.
He was born June 11, 1943, in Fremont to Verl and Dorothy (Tank) Lantefield.
John grew up in the Webster area, attended North Bend High School for three years and graduated from Scribner High School. He was in the Army National Guard and worked at Lantefield Oil Co. in Scribner before becoming an independent insurance agent, retiring in 2013.

Jason E. Daugherty of North Bend passed away Aug. 19 in North Bend as a result of an accident. He was born Sept. 10, 1970, in Lincoln.
Jason earned his GED from a job corps in Chadron in 1990 and resided most of his life in North Bend. He was employed by Metro Exteriors. Jason married Misti Powers on Feb. 24, 2004. Jason was free spirited. He enjoyed the outdoors, boating, camping and dirt biking.
He is survived by his wife Misti Daugherty of North Bend; sons Cody Wicks of Norfolk, Gage Daugherty of Fremont, Masyn and Phoenyx Daugherty of North Bend; daughters Ayla Novak of Fremont and Pyper Daugherty of North Bend; brothers Adam Schleiger of Omaha, Shannon (Donna) Kern of Fremont and Toby Leiting of Lincoln; sisters Lia Leiting of Carrol, Iowa, Chelsea (fiancé, Nathan Haynes) Daugherty of Hooper, Tara (Carlos) Montenegro of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brothers–in-law Corey Powers of Fremont and Shane Powers of Omaha; sister-in-law Amber Cherny of Fremont; and expected grandson Otto Dobberstine.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sheila Daugherty and grandparents.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 26 at United Presbyterian Church in North Bend. The Rev. Michael Hill will officiate.

Stephen “Steve” L. Pearson passed away Aug. 18 at his home in North Bend. He was born Dec. 23, 1944, in Lincoln to Ernest and Goldie (Edie) Pearson.
Steve grew up in Raymond and graduated from Valparaiso High School. He resided in Lincoln from 1962 to 2005 until moving to North Bend. He wintered in Okeechobee, Florida, the last several years.
He is survived by his son Grant (Kathy) Pearson of West Des Moines, Iowa; daughters Paige Lane and Jennifer Haubrich; brother Clay (Melinda) Pearson; sister Carla (Andy) Squiterri all of Lincoln, Paula (Doug) Alleman of Ceresco; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents and brother Clinton.
There will be a gathering at 1 p.m., August 27, at his residence. Hawaiian attire is welcomed.

Glenn Martindale of Fremont passed away Aug. 3 at his home. Glenn was born to Glenn Sr. and Ethel (Beeney) Martindale on Aug. 17, 1930, in Castana, Iowa.
Glenn grew up on a farm near Turin, Iowa. He attended a country grade school and Castana High School. Glenn married Doris Cooper on Jan. 16, 1949, in Onawa, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with five children. They began their life together near Soldier, Iowa, working on a farm and then farmed for seven years near Pisgah, Iowa. While in Pisgah, Glenn attended Reisch Auction School in Mason City, Iowa, to become an auctioneer.
The family moved to North Bend in 1959. Glenn worked for Pollard Implement until 1965 when he went to work for Taylor and Martin Auction Company. In 1968 he started his own Real Estate and Auction Companies and in 1975 he and Doris moved to Fremont. Glenn was in the construction business in the ‘80s and built a number of homes in Fremont and North Bend. Although Glenn enjoyed the businesses he owned, he was a farmer at heart. He purchased and farmed a farm east of Fremont for several years in the ‘90s. Glenn retired in 1997.
Glenn was a member of Community of Christ Church, North Bend Masonic Lodge 119 AF&AM and Arbor Vitae Chapter 92 of Eastern Star.
Glenn enjoyed doing woodworking, stained glass and gardening. He loved his family and made special gifts for them. Glenn and Doris enjoyed traveling, taking trips in their motor home to areas in the states as well as Alaska, Canada and Mexico. Winter months were spent in Texas and Arizona.
Glenn is survived by his wife Doris; sons Brad (Kathy) Martindale of North Bend, Randel (Kevin Ebmeyer) Martindale of San Francisco, Calif.; daughters Glenna (Dan) Hoops, Arlowene (Dan) Winkelman, all of North Bend, Cynthia (Tim) Arnold of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother Gene (Betty) Martindale of Turin, Iowa; and sister Marlene Sargent of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard Martindale.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 7 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Elders Tim and Cynthia Arnold officiating. Burial was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie Evelyn Kracl of O’Neill will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in O’Neill, with burial in the O’Neill Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill with a parish rosary at 7 p.m. Marie passed away Aug. 5 at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. Biglins Mortuary in O’Neill is in charge of arrangements.
Marie Evelyn was born to Anton J. and Mary Francis (Wachal) Jedlicka in Schuyler on July 27, 1929. She attended Country School District 13 in Schuyler and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1946. She met Norman P. Kracl and they were married on Sept. 6, 1952, at St. Mary’s Church in Schuyler. To this union, six children were born: Eileen, Robert, Steven, Anton, Michael and Carol. The family farmed in the North Bend and Rogers area through 1972. They moved to O’Neill in 1973 to establish Kracl Equipment Company, a John Deere Dealership. In 1975, they started farming in the Holt County area, where she was still involved in farming.
Gardening was her true passion, along with caring for their grandchildren and attending their activities. Norman and Marie were able to travel abroad on many trips with the John Deere business. After losing her husband in 1985, she went on many bus trips with relatives and friends.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Eileen (Ron). Schmit, Robert (Barbra) Kracl, Michael (Wanda) Kracl, Carol (Mike) Hedlund, all of O’Neill, nine grandchildren; Travis (Molly) Schmit of Lincoln, Stephanie (Lee) Clark of Norfolk, Bryce Kracl of Omaha, Bobbi (Kevin) Stearns of O’Neill, Brec Kracl of O’Neill, Ciera (Chancy) Hansen of Wagner, S.D., Clarissa (Sam) Gillham of Grand Island, Alexandria (Guy) Fenske of Overland Park, Kan., Michael Hedlund of O’Neill; seven great-grandchildren, Chandler, Eden and Ava Schmit, Andrew and Alex Clark, Mila and Saylor Stearns.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman, son Steven Kracl, infant son Anton Kracl and brother Milo Jedlicka.

Kristy L. Kavan of Fremont, died July 27 at CHI Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.
Kristy was born Sept. 10, 1958, in Schuyler to Raymond and Janet (Best) Kavan, who preceded her in death.
She grew up on the family farm near North Bend, graduated in 1976 from North Bend Central High School and received her LPN from Platte College in Columbus. After a few years in nursing, she acquired a political science degree at Wayne State College and did graduate work at Texas Tech and University of Nebraska at Omaha in public administration. She then lived and worked in various finance and administrative jobs in West Point, Crete, Lincoln and North Bend. She most recently worked in sales at Cato’s in Fremont.
Kristy was an avid Husker and Yankee fan, but she was a bigger fan of her nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. She enjoyed hundreds of their sporting events and music performances and hand crafting many gifts for them as well as making Christmas cookies.
She is survived by brothers Kent (Theresa) Kavan of Dunbar, Kirk (Karen) Kavan of North Bend, Kevin (Julie) Kavan of Fremont and Kory (Jane) Kavan of Waverly, many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Aug. 2, at Fremont Alliance Church in Fremont. The Rev. Thaddeus Rexilius will officiate. Visitation is Aug. 1 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and on Aug 2. one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in North Bend.

Brian L. Thompson of Ames died July 23, at Fremont Health Medical Center.
Brian was born Dec. 20, 1943, in Fremont to Lloyd and Signa (Peterson) Thompson.
Brian grew up in Ames and was a 1962 graduate of North Bend High School. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Brian married Linda Dalton on Sept. 18, 1965, in Mission Creek. Linda died May 2, 2017.
Brian farmed from 1966 to 1996 and then worked at Oilgear in Fremont until retiring in 2015.
He was a former member of United Presbyterian Church and the Jaycees in North Bend. He served on the Ames School Board for 12 years and various other boards and committees. He was a member of the NRA and Alpha Gamma Fraternity.
Brian is survived by sons Todd (Linda) Thompson of Ames and Scott (Melissa)Thompson of Fremont; daughter Michelle Thompson of Ames; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 28, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Chris Howell will officiate. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials to the NRA.

Jill M. (Fujan) Walters, 50, of Littleton, Colo., passed away in the early morning hours of July 20 at Denver Health as a result of a tragic car accident the afternoon of June 30 that took the life of her husband that day.
Jill was inspiring, empathetic and spunky. She always had a light in her eye and a smile on her face.
Jill was born Dec. 30, 1966, in Fremont, to Marvin D. and Lucile A. (Wotipka) Fujan. She grew up on a farm outside of North Bend and graduated from North Bend Central High School in 1985. After graduating, Jill attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln where she studied business and marketing.
Jill met her husband, Mike Walters, at UNL and they wed in September of 1989 following Jill’s graduation.
The pair had two beautiful children, Nicole and Nicholas.
Jill worked for a start-up company, Koia, as vice president of sales and marketing in Los Angeles, Calif. Outside of work, Jill spent time making memories with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed traveling the world, growing veggies in the garden, walking her two German shepherds, and watching Husker football.
Jill had a big heart and truly loved and cared for anyone she met. She invested in other’s lives, which in turn made hers all the richer. Her infectious laugh, charming smile and fun living spirit will be missed by many.
Jill is survived by her daughter Nicole; son Nicholas, both of Littleton, Colo.; mother Lucile Fujan of Medford, Oreg.; sister Joyce (Mike) Bowman of Plattsmith; brothers Michael (Debi) Fujan of Gretna; Tom (Tera) Fujan of Shalimar, Fla.; and Randy (Tammy) Fujan of Ames. Aunts and uncles Rose Protextor, Agnes Selfrige and Marianne and Harvey Callahan with numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Michael, father Marvin Fujan, maternal grandparents Ludvig and Bessie (Benal) Wotipka and paternal grandparents Frank and Emma (Stich) Fujan.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on July 28 at The Chapel at Cherry Hills, 3900 Grace Blvd. Highlands Ranch, CO. Visitation will be held 5 - 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Chapel.

Jeannette J. Tank of Fremont died July 19 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. Jeannette was born March 30, 1935, in Norfolk to Edwin and Dorothy (Wiedeman) Renter.
She lived in Grand Island until her family moved to Fremont when she was a sophomore. She was a 1953 graduate of Fremont High School. Jeannette married Leland F. Tomasek on Feb. 2, 1957, in Columbus. They farmed near North Bend. Leland died Aug. 3, 1984. Jeannette married Donald Tank on Nov. 15, 1990. They later divorced. She moved to Fremont in 1999 where she worked at Sid Dillon and TEK Services. After retirement, Jeannette worked part-time at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
Her family was very important to her and she loved going to the casinos. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont and was a volunteer at Fremont Area Medical Center
She is survived by daughter Jeannie (Ron) Marquardt of Arlington; son Steven (Billy Jo) Tomasek of Hordville; brothers Vern Renter of Woodland Park, Colo., Virgil (Jean) Renter of Worthington, Minn.; grandchildren Hannah, Cole, Tyler, Randi, Lane and Garrett.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leland; brother Jerry and son Garry Tomasek.
Funeral services were July 24 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Weber officiating. Private family burial will be at Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff.

Vivian A. Dale of North Bend, died July 13 in Snyder.
Vivian was born Nov. 23, 1929, in rural Webster to Ollie and Ruth (Sturbaum) Stubbert. She married Daryle Dale on Nov. 14, 1948, in North Bend. Daryle died July 18, 2011.
Vivian worked at the Blevins Popcorn Plant in North Bend until retiring in 1993. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in North Bend.
Vivian is survived by sons Larry (Ginger) Dale of Salem, Ore., Douglas (Carol) Dale of Fremont and Lanny (Eva) Dale of Omaha; daughters Daralyn (Steve) Dirkschneider of Snyder and Deborah (Steve) Kunasek of Fremont; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Donna Johnson and grandson Troy Dirkschneider.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 20, at United Presbyterian Church in North Bend. The Rev. Michael Hill will officiate. Visitation is Wednesday, July 19, 5 to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. A private family burial will be at the Glencoe Cemetery near Dodge.

Keith R. Newsom, age 31,252 days (or 85 years, 6 months, 23 days), died at the Kinston, North Carolina Veterans home on July 8. Keith was born Dec. 16, 1931, in North Bend to Henry J. and Ida (Nelson) Newsom, the youngest of their six children.
Keith attended North Bend public schools, graduating from North Bend High School in 1949. He was a member of the Christian Church. He loved sports and music. In January 1954, he graduated from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science degree.
In the mid- 1950s he served on active duty as a lieutenant in field artillery. His Army service took him to Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Munich, Germany; and Fort Ord, California.
Keith married Brigitte Foerderer Nov. 24, 1955, in Munich. To this union were born three children: Sylvia (1956); Rob (1961); and Christine (1962). He married Josie Padilla January 12, 1981 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Brigitte, his second wife Josie, his daughter Christine, and his siblings Ida Marie, Faith, Irene, Henry J. (Jack, Jr.) and Hazel. Surviving are his children Sylvia and Rob, their spouses Bill and Sidney, and two grandchildren Sadie and Zachary Newsom. Four nephews and one niece also survive.
During his college days Keith worked three summers at the Safeway Trailer Company in North Bend, one summer (1952) as an army reserve officer trainee at Fort Gordon, Ga., and one summer (1953) with the US Forest Service in Superior National Forest, northern Minnesota. He retired in 1996 with over forty years of federal service, most of that service as a civilian employee of the Navy and Air Force. Keith’s federal service included two years as an Army lieutenant, 13 years as an oceanographer with the Naval Oceanographic Office in Suitland, Md., 23 years as a technical librarian with the Air Force at Kirtland AFB, N.M., and two years as a scientific and technical information officer with the Strategic Air Command at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha.
While with the Oceanographic Office (1958-1971), Keith made a number of scientific voyages to remote ocean areas, including three into the Arctic. Two of the three Arctic voyages were into the pack ice between Greenland and Svalbard (Spitzbergen) and one voyage was into the Barents Sea north of Norway and the Soviet Union. With the Cold War escalating at the time, the Soviets took great interest in these Arctic voyages by the Americans, particularly the one into the Barents Sea. They occasionally made low passes with their Badger bombers over the American icebreaker and also tailed the American ship with their own icebreaker throughout the entire Barents Sea operation. Two of Keith’s fellow oceanographers were aboard the USS Pueblo off the coast of North Korea in 1968 when the North Koreans attacked that ship killing one crew member, then forcing the ship and crew into a North Korean port The North Koreans imprisoned and mistreated the entire crew for nearly a year before finally releasing them. The so-called Cold War could be downright dangerous at times! Keith also took part in numerous other ocean data collection trips in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Keith considered his graduation from the University of Nebraska as his greatest personal achievement because he did it all at a very young age without financial support from home or from any government agency. Later during his working life, he also earned a master’s degree from the University of Maryland.
The loss of his first wife Brigitte to the genetic illness known as Huntington’s disease, his second wife Josie to liver complications and diabetes, and his daughter Christine to Huntington’s disease were tragedies he bore with a heavy heart. Keith spent many years as primary care-giver to Brigitte, Josie and Christine.
Keith’s remains have been cremated. No service is planned immediately, but an informal memorial service will be held later in North Bend. Interment of his ashes will be in Woodland cemetery, next to those of his daughter Christine. Though Keith spent many years away, his home state (Nebraska) and home town (North Bend) were always in his thoughts (Go Huskers! Go Tigers!).
Memorial contributions are welcome and may be directed to the North Bend Franklin-Cotterell Arboretum Fund. Keith was very fond of trees and planted hundreds of them during his lifetime.
Inscribed on his family gravestone in Woodland cemetery are the names of his first wife Brigitte and the names of their three children: Sylvia; Rob; and Christine. And on his shiny brass burial urn, inscribed are the words:

One old and incredible man
Reduced to ashes
And sealed in a can!
His final song:
O bury me please
On the frozen praireeeee

Jessica was born Nov. 17, 1974, in Fremont to Richard and Linda (Thomsen) Parr. She was a 1993 graduate of Fremont High School and later earned her degree from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Jessica was a longtime employee of Target. In 2005, she began working at Five Points Bank where she was in charge of new accounts. Jessica was united in marriage to Justin Dorn on Aug. 10, 2002, in Kearney.
Jessica loved all kinds of music, especially the Beatles. She enjoyed going out with her friends, watching HGTV and Modern Family, and a well-timed Pun. Throughout her battle, Jessica remained positive and up-beat, never conceding to the disease.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons Caleb and Callen Dorn of Kearney; mother Linda Grohs of Omaha; brother Adam Parr and wife Danielle of San Diego, CA; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jessica was preceded in death by her husband Justin Dorn, father Richard Parr, grandparents Jens and Donna Thomsen and Sylvester and Gloria Parr.

Arlene M. Hines of Morse Bluff passed away July 1 in Lincoln. She was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Howells to Emanuel and Helen (Steffel)Maly.
She grew up in Howells and moved to Saunders Co. near Morse Bluff in 1942. She married Donald Hines on Feb. 19, 1955, in North Bend. Donald died Sept. 5, 1977.
Arlene worked at Schuyler Nursing Center for several years and Birchwood Manor in North Bend since the late 1990’s.
She was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Morse Bluff, and their Altar Society and member of F.O.E. at Schuyler.
Arlene is survived by her sons Robert (Joyce) Hines of North Bend and Thomas (Erin)Hines of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three granddaughters Jennifer (Sebastian) Castro and Colleen (Mike) Sexton, all of Cape Coral, Fla., and Carlene (Tim) Harbeck and great-grandson, Xavier Harbeck, all of Omaha.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Leonard Maly.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. July 6 at St. George Catholic in Morse Bluff. The Rev. Dennis Hunt will officiate. Margaret Heese of Fremont passed away June 19 in Omaha. She was born Jan. 23, 1929.
Margaret grew up in rural Fremont. She married Arthur Heese in 1947. The couple lived in rural Dodge County and then moved to North Bend in 1982. Margaret moved to Fremont in 2003.
She was a member of United Presbyterian Church and VFW Auxiliary 8223, both of North Bend.
Margaret is survived by children Donna (Terry) O’Brien, Allan (Ruth) Heese, Linda Hess and Brian Heese; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and sister Betty (Ken) Hoffman.
She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter Carol MacDaniels.

Services were held June 22 in Columbus for Adeline Kmoch. She died June 15 at Columbus Community Hospital. Adeline was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Madison to Henry and Agnes (Buettner) Platt.
She was united in marriage to Laddie Kmoch of Leigh on Nov. 28, 1944. They lived most of their married lives in Leigh and the Columbus area. Laddie died March 11, 1970.
Adeline was employed at Dale Electronics in Columbus for 25 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus.
Adeline is survived by son Gene (Trudy) Kmoch of Grand Island; seven grandchildren including Kyrsten (D.J.) Mottl of North Bend and JaNahn (Mark) Niven of Weston, formerly of North Bend; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Donna Brown of Omaha, Janice (Robert) Nesladek of North Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Bonnie Sic, son Laddie D. Kmoch and sister Dorothy Platt.

Luella A. Ruzicka-Zvacek of Schuyler, formerly of North Bend, died June 14, at Schuyler Care and Rehab Center.
Luella was born on June 21, 1918, on the family farm near Dodge, to Vincent and Cyprianna (Janecek) Kriz. She was a 1936 graduate of Dodge High School.
Luella married Milo A. Ruzicka on Jan. 31, 1940. He died on April 25, 1959. Luella then married Rynold Zvacek on Nov. 22, 1960. They farmed and were longtime residents of North Bend. Rynold died on March 21, 1998.
Her hobbies included playing cards, bowling, reading, sewing, gardening and raising chickens. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in North Bend and belonged to the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Luella is survived by her son Rodney (Kathryn) Ruzicka of Schuyler; son-in-law John Adams of Easton, Kan.; stepson Donald (Sally) Zvacek of North Bend; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight step- grandchildren and nineteen step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Milo Ruzicka and Rynold Zvacek; daughter Carol (Ruzicka)Adams; a grandson; and sister and brother-in-law Melba and Frode Jensen.
Funeral service was June 20 at United Presbyterian Church in North Bend. The Rev. Michael Hill officiated. She was buried at Bohemian National Cemetery at Dodge.

Jesse Ray Cady was born Oct. 5 1985, in Fremont to Gary Cady and Joy Jenkins. Jesse’s life was taken suddenly in a traffic accident on June 14.
Jesse attended North Bend schools where he graduated in 2003. On May 31, 2008, Jesse married Brandi Hagedorn. The couple became proud parents of three children Quentin, 6, Cash and Bren, both age 4.
Jesse has been a master technician for Blue Sky Satellite for 10 years. Jesse and Brandi were fortunate enough to start a business doing something they are both very passionate about. They established R5 Airboats in 2013 with the intent on fulfilling Jesse’s dream of building a legacy for his children. With the start of the business he became a member of The Nebraska Airboat Association. Being a member of The NAA he was able to touch many lives and establish new friendships. His love for the river was strong, but nothing compared to the love he had for his wife and children.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dale Cady, and mother-in-law, Brenda Hagedorn.
Jesse’s love for life is carried on by his wife and children; father and mother; stepfather Mark Jenkins; fathers-in-law Joel Haugaard and Mike (Mattie) Nelson; sisters Renae (Chad) McCullum and Mandy Cady; grandparents Gaylen and Cyndi Johnson, Del and Jean Lennie, and Susie Nelson. He is also survived by several other family members and friends.
The memorial service was Tuesday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. To honor Jesse and his love of airboats, friends who have boats were asked to bring them to his service. A reception followed at R5 Airboats after the burial at Salem Cemetery in rural Oakland.

Carol E. Reck of North Bend passed away May 30 at Edgewood Vista in Fremont.
She was born August 31, 1946, in Hutchinson County, S.D., to Beryl and Alice (Parsons) Wagner. She grew up on a farm and graduated from high school in Miller, S.D. After high school, she moved to Florida for a couple years and then moved to Alliance for 10 years where she worked as a meat cutter at Safeway. She resided in the mid-1970’s in North Bend. She worked and managed various local seed companies.
Carol loved to hunt deer, fish, work crossword puzzles, read books, and ride motorcycles with her partner, Francis Wesely.
She was preceded in death by her father, Beryl.
Carol is survived by her partner of 37 years, Francis Wesely of North Bend and his children: Emily (Ken) Mahnke of Fremont, Dave (Jennifer) Wesely of North Bend, Wendy (Shane)Gustafson of Fremont; mother Alice Wagner of Miller, S.D.; brother Gary (Janet) Wagner of Mountain Home, Idaho; grandchildren Cheyenne, Colton, Tyler, Maverick, Hunter, and Kailey; niece Megan (Matt) Neuman and three great nephews.
A memorial service was June 5 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. The Rev. Michael Hill officiated.
Burial was at Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff.

Betty L. Marxsen of North Bend died Tuesday, May 23, at her home. She was born March 3, 1934, on a farm near Schuyler to Lloyd and Lillian (Noha) Pollard. She attended K-12 school in Schuyler and graduated in 1952.
On Aug. 12, 1952, she married Robert (Bob)Marxsen and was blessed with four sons: Ken (Lissett) and Frank (Ursula) of Omaha, David of Schuyler and Ted of Lincoln and two daughters: Judy (John)Healy of Schuyler and Jean Foy of North Bend.
She lived on a farm north of Rogers for 50 years. After Bob’s death in 1999, she moved to North Bend in 2002. Betty was a stay-at-home mom while being very active in her church and community. She was an officer of St. Patrick’s of Clyde Guild and was chosen to represent St. Patrick’s Clyde and Dublin at Area 5 meetings. She was a part of hiring Sister Helen to teach parents how to teach religion. To cover the cost of this, Blue Rock Shoots were held weekly at the Dave Reznicek Farm.
When the churches were closed, the family joined St. Charles Borromeo Parish in North Bend. Betty taught fifth grade CCD for 11 years. With help from the Archdiocese office, she became a co-coordinator and the Director of Religious Education for St. Charles Church. After Bob’s death, she also took on the K-12 program at St. Leo’s of Snyder to coordinate the two parishes. She retired from both in 2012. Betty was Archdiocesan Pastoral Council leader coordinator in Elder Ministry and attended those meetings regularly. As a member of the Religious Education Leader Coordinators of Omaha Rural for over 15 years, she was one of six who planned the “Give and Take” for religious teachers in the Schuyler, Columbus and Norfolk area.
Betty was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist for over 25 years, Altar Society Secretary member for many years, belonged to Circle 6, the Christian Mothers, and was co-chairman for funeral meals. She also served on the Purple Cane Cemetery Board, was treasurer for Union Township for 16 years, and cooked at School District 92 (Tower School) for eight years. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, a book club, the Library Board and Library Foundation. Betty was the contact person for the Platte Valley Betty Club, which she formed to be part of 15 other Betty Clubs in Nebraska. She enjoyed attending the yearly Betty Conventions.
Betty enjoyed playing cards and games with her bunco, tripoli and Webster pitch slubs and bingo. She enjoyed following the activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty enjoyed traveling on many bus tours which took her to 25 different states. She also made trips to Mexico and Canada.
Betty is survived by her six children, 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers Joseph Pollard of Fremont and Donald Pollard of Schuyler and brother-in-law Marvin Mohler of David City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bob; sisters Patricia Mohler, Marg Svoboda and Diane Pollard; grandchild Jessica Healy, son-in-law Marvin Foy; brother-in-law Al Svoboda; and sisters-in-law Jean Pollard and Kathy Pollard.
Funeral Mass was May 26, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in North Bend. Burial was at Purple Cane Cemetery.

R.A. “Pete” Parr of Fremont died May 23 at Nye Pointe Health and Rehab Center in Fremont. Pete was born July 11, 1944, in Fremont to Sylvester and Gloria(Muller)Parr. He lived in Dodge and North Bend, before moving to Fremont.
Pete married Linda Thomsen Aug. 27, 1966. They later divorced. Pete married Peggy Wasserburger on Dec. 31, 1982, in Las Vegas, Nev. She died July 14, 2007.
Pete worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years. He enjoyed woodworking and camping at the Fremont State Lakes.
Survivors include his son Adam (Danielle) Parr of Ramona, CA; daughter Jessica Dorn of Kearney; brother Rodney Parr of Fremont; sisters Sandra (Bob) Chromy, Wanda (Terry) Rucker all of Fremont, Carmen Kugler of Morse Bluff; five grandchildren, Caleb and Callen Dorn, Sierra, Joshua and Susan Parr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son-in-law Justin Dorn.
Memorial service will 10 a.m., Friday, June 2, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. There is no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.

Dorothy (Vopalensky) Mines was born April 7, 1929, to Albert and Clara (Novak) Vopalensky in rural Morse Bluff. She passed away May 12 at the Heritage at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.
Dorothy attended District 14 public school in Morse Bluff from kindergarten to 10th grade and graduated from North Bend High School in 1946. Dorothy then attended the University of Nebraska and Midland College.
On Oct. 29, 1949, Dorothy married William A. Mines at the United Presbyterian Church in North Bend. They had four sons: Michael, Jeffery, Randall and Barry. Dorothy spent the early years of their marriage caring for her boys. In 1967, she entered the workforce as secretary to the principal of North Bend High School. Later she worked as administrative assistant to Dr. Mark Johnson, retiring in 1991.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of the United Presbyterian Church and enjoyed many years participating in the choir, women’s group and bible study. In retirement, she routinely traveled to see “the kids” in Alaska and Virginia. Other travels took her throughout the U.S., as well as Greece, Mexico, Germany, the Czech Republic and Egypt.
An avid bridge player, Dorothy enjoyed attending and hosting many bridge parties. Her community service was highlighted in 2012 with the completion of North Bend’s new public library. Dorothy was an early leader in the effort as library president, and was soon joined by many volunteers to see the project through to completion.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Clara; husband of 54 years, Bill; and son, Naval aviator Lt Commander Jeffery, whose A-6 aircraft was lost in the South China Sea in 1990.
Dorothy is survived by sons Michael (Katherine) of Blair, Randall (Chanda) of Anchorage, Alaska, and Barry (Bryan) of Lexington, Va., brothers Albert of Fremont, Charles (Janice) of North Bend; five grandchildren: Alaina, Brita, Harrison, Madison and William; and great-granddaughter Lucy.
Her celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 20 at the United Presbyterian Church in North Bend. The Rev. Michael Hill will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery at North Bend.

Raymond D. Gray of Fontanelle died May 12 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.
Raymond was born March 28, 1934, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Lawrence “Duke” and Mabel (Harrington) Gray.
He is survived by his wife Diana of Fontanelle; sons Ed (Jan) Gray of North Bend, Rex (Rohnda) Gray of Elkhorn; daughters Alese (Bill) Brandt of Fremont, and Tracy and husband Alan Christensen of Papillion; brothers John (Shirley) Gray, Charles (Carol) Gray all of Kansas City, Mo., Tom (Judy) Gray of New Market, Iowa; sister, Dottie Fellers of Bolivar, Mo,; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 20, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. The Rev. Allison Siburg will officiate.

Raymond “Ray” J. Kracl of Fremont died May 9 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.
Raymond was born Aug. 23, 1924, near Schuyler to Thomas J. and Julia M. (Jonas) Kracl.
His family moved to the Purple Cane area in Dodge County, where Ray spent his childhood. He attended District 56 through the 8th grade and went to Sunday school at the Purple Cane Methodist Church.
Maple Creek provided the opportunity for wading, fishing and swimming after school and during the summer months.
Starting at a young age, Ray helped out on the family farm by doing field work, livestock management and other farm related chores. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945, shortly before the Japanese surrender, and spent his time serving in Korea from April 6, 1945, to Dec. 30, 1946, during World War II. After his time in the military, he started farming an acreage west of North Bend.
Raymond married Anita Pestel on April 14, 1955, in Wisner. Working together, both their farm and family grew. Carmen was born in 1956 with Bruce following in 1959. Retirement brought a move to Fremont in 1996.
Ray was a dedicated farmer who spent long hours in the fields. In the winter months and during breaks in the weather, he enjoyed attending auctions and land sales. A favorite pastime was watching son Bruce play basketball during his years at North Bend Central and later cheering on granddaughters Lauren and Erin as they excelled in high school, club, and college volleyball. Additionally, Ray was a Husker football and volleyball fan and enjoyed listening to Lawrence Welk and big band music.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 20. He served as a Union Township clerk for eight years, was a member of the Dodge County Weed Board and also served a term on Lower Platte Natural Resource District Board. He also participated in the activities of a local World War II Last Man’s Club.
Ray is survived by wife Anita; daughter, Carmen (Rich) Hood of Omaha; son Bruce (Holly) Kracl of Eudora, Kan.; granddaughters Lauren Durkin and Erin (Kris) Grindinger of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; step granddaughter Natalie Bond of Kansas City; two great-grandchildren and six stepgreat grandchildren and brother Jerold (Leona) Kracl of Schuyler.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Norman, Robert and Thomas Kracl and sister Florence Blanchard.
A memorial service was May 13 at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. The Rev. Michael McGregor officiated. Burial with military honors was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or the North Bend Central Foundation.

Dorothy J. Parr of Fremont passed away May 6 at Fremont Health Medical Center. 
Dorothy was born Feb. 6, 1945, to Ernest and Alice (Franta) Ladenburger in Fremont. She grew up on a farm near Morse Bluff and graduated from North Bend High School in 1963. After graduation, she moved to Fremont. She married Dan Parr on Oct. 30, 1968, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. Caring for their children occupied most of her time. She also spent time running a day care out of her home while her children and grandchildren were growing up until her retirement in 2014.  
Dorothy loved gardening, and growing plants and flowers. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. 
She is survived by her husband Dan; daughter Darcy (Ryan) Dorfmeyer of Fremont; sons David (Jaime) Parr of Grand Island, Chad (Tracy) Parr of Fremont, Nathan (Wendy) Parr of Fremont; sisters Loretta (Jack) Kloke of North Bend, Joan (Ken) Loeffler of Fremont, Janice (Jim) Poulas of Ames, Betty (Steve) Boothe of Fremont; brothers Gary (Charlene) Ladenburger of North Bend, Bob (Cindy) Ladenburger of Fremont, Dan (Becky) Ladenburger of Bennington; and six grandchildren, Hayli, Collin, Jasmine, Kenni, Sophie and Alice. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and niece Tiffany Ladenburger.  
Her funeral Mass will be 2 p.m., May 10 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. David Belt will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be designated to Archbishop Bergan Schools.

Frank Keith Diez of Mt. Airy, Md., passed away peacefully at his home on May 2. Doris, his wife of more than 60 years, was by his side as was his family. He is survived by his wife, their five children, and two grandchildren.
Frank  was born March 21, 1932, to Arthur Claude Diez and Mary (Tobola) Diez during the great blizzard in rural Knox County, Nebraska.
At the age of six, the family moved to North Bend, where he graduated from high school with the class of 1949. He attended Colorado A&M, now Colorado State, for two years and then transferred to the University of Minnesota which he attended one year.
Frank was drafted into the Korean War from Minnesota and attended basic training at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. He received training at Fort Monmouth, N.J., in military electronics and advanced training at Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was transferred to Fort Bliss, Texas, with the 156th Ordinance Department where he continued in electronics.
While stationed at Aberdeen, he met Doris Anita Muth whom he married in September of 1955. To this union were born five children:  Gregory, Susan, Jeffrey, Michael and Heather.
Frank gained employment by Westinghouse Electric Company as an engineering aide in Electronics in 1955 and advanced to Senior Manufacturing Engineer in Wiring & Cabling of Military Electronics before retiring in 1994 after 39½ years. While at Westinghouse, he took classes for five years at McCoy College (night classes of Johns Hopkins) in electric engineering.
Frank enjoyed gardening, word search games, and collecting “things” for nursing homes in Iowa and Nebraska. He would make yearly trips to visit these nursing homes to deliver collected items and to see relatives.
Internment was at the L’eau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara, where his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were laid to rest. A memorial service is being planned for May 27 in Niobrara.

Gladys R. Chvatal of Morse Bluff died April 26 at Fremont Health Medical Center. Gladys was born Jan. 28, 1939, in Prague to George and Mildred (Slosser) Prochaska.
She was raised on a farm near Prague and was a 1956 graduate of Prague High School. She also attended Midland Teaching College and received a one-year teaching certificate. Gladys married Don A. Chvatal on July 30, 1958, in David City. They moved to a farm near Morse Bluff and had lived there since 1960.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by Don, her husband of 58 years; son Terry (Vicki) Chvatal of Omaha; daughters Karen (Mark NewVille) Michaelson of Lincoln, Linda (Mark) Brower of North Bend, Donna (Jon)Schuetz of Omaha, and Rose (J.B.) Suddarth of York; grandchildren Annie Slattery, Ryan Schuetz, Matthew Schuetz, Jamie Schuetz, Josie Lee, Erin Lee, Julia Lee, Jacob Chvatal, and Logan Chvatal; stepgrandchildren Jeff Kruger, Josh NewVille, Drake Suddarth and Blair Suddarth; and great-grandchild Parker Slattery.
She was preceded in death by parents; infant brother George Prochaska, Jr. and infant great-grandson Grant Slattery.
A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., May 3, at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate. Visitation will be May 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moser Chapel in North Bend and burial will be at Prague National Cemetery at Prague.

Georgia A. Ostry of North Bend, formerly Prague, passed away April 9 at Birchwood Manor in North Bend. She was born Feb. 22, 1932, near Prague, to Louis and Lydia (Humlicek) Ostry. She was the fifth child born to a family of eight. She was born handicapped and never attended school. She enjoyed playing the player piano, where she could pump the foot pedal. She liked to watch and imitate the farm animals and enjoyed being around people, including her nieces and nephews. She also liked to have her hair styled.
She and her mother both moved to Birchwood Manor in 1986. She withstood many surgeries to better her health.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague.
She is survived by her sisters Marie Havlovic of Prague, Edith Sousek of Morse Bluff, Loretta (Leonard) Snitily of Prague; brothers Herman (Donna) Ostry of Bruno, and Jerome (Mary Ann) Ostry of Prague; brother-in-law Frank Sousek of Prague; and many nieces and nephews.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; sister Angela Sousek; sister and brother-in-law Irene and Emil Snitily; brothers-in-law Joe Havlovic and Edward Sousek; nephews Marvin Sousek and Clarence Snitily.
Her funeral Mass was April 12 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Burial will be at St. John Cemetery, Prague. Moser Memorial Chapel at North Bend in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Henry “Hank” H. Heller of Beemer, will be on April 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beemer. Interment with Military Honors will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beemer. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and will continue on Friday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is in charge of the arrangements.
Henry passed away April 2 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer.
Henry was born on April 5, 1926, on the farm south of Wisner, to Henry, Sr. and Anna (Daberkow) Heller. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Henry attended Cuming Co. Rural School District 9, St. John’s Parochial School, and graduated from Wisner High School in 1943. After graduation he farmed with his brother Andy. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1946-1947.
On June 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Darlene Rider at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft. The couple moved to the family farm south of Wisner, where he also was a feed salesman, did custom baling, and was a Farm Bureau Insurance representative. Henry later went to work as a representative for Farmers Mutual Insurance and the couple built a new home in Beemer, moving into it in 1973. Henry was instrumental in forming the first hog co-op in Cuming County. He later started Nebraskaland Farm and Home Realty in 1976 and operated it until his retirement.
Henry was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and men’s choir, Beemer American Legion Post 159, and the Cuming Co. Historical Society, where he served as its first president. He loved genealogy and collecting tokens, belonging to a token collecting club. He and Darlene enjoyed traveling and especially spending time in Branson the last several years. He was a pilot and loved flying in his younger years.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Darlene; brother Andy (Lillian) Heller of Wisner; sister Anna Mae Breitkreutz of Wisner; son Zelan (Sarah) Heller of Rogers; daughter Roxie (Keenan) Meyer of Pilger; grandchildren Katie (Benjamin) Mattson of Omaha, 1st Lt. Michael Heller of San Antonio, Texas, Matthew (Becky) Heller of Blair, Andrew Heller of North Bend, Jamie (Kristina) Meyer of Lincoln, Lacey (John) Amavi of Maple Grove, Minn., Jenna (Eric) Andrews of Kingsley, Iowa; great-grandchildren Royce, Magnus, and Hawken Mattson, Millie and Vivie Heller, Stella Amavi and Brock Andrews.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Henrietta Kruse and a brother-in-law- Francis Breitkruetz.

Charles S. “Chic” Chapman of Grand Island died March 30 at CHI Health St. Francis, in Grand Island surrounded by his family. In honor of his wishes he was cremated. Mass of Christian Burial was April 3 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Marty L. Egging officiating. Internment was at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Memorials are suggested to Grand Island Central Catholic or the Central Nebraska Humane Society.
Chic was born August 19, 1935, to Jack and Edith (Button) Chapman of North Bend.
He was married to Mary K. Fogarty on Nov. 7, 1968, in Omaha. To this union five children were born: John, Colleen, James, Julie and Jennifer. He was involved in all phases of the trucking industry his entire life. He was one of the founders of Central Nebraska Traffic Club in 1968. Chic was also an insurance agent for several years and had been a Boy Scout Counselor.
Chic has traveled in 50 states and many countries. In his early years he loved to hunt and fish. When he was no longer able to do this, he still enjoyed birds and wildlife by watching from his window or driving around with family. He drove stock cars at Nebraska raceways and boxed Golden Gloves. Chic was also an avid reader his entire life. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to help others, whether he knew them or not. He could converse on almost any subject and his knowledge was a wealth of information for friends and family to seek his advice. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren, and one of his greatest joys was when the grandchildren came to visit.
Chic is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; children John, Colleen (Clyde) Childers, Jim, Julie (Greg) Hamik, all of Grand Island, Jenny (Dan) Knipping of Kearney; sister Mary Ida Wisnieski of Dodge; brother John J. Chapman of Seattle, Wash.; sister-in-law Sandy Fogarty of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren Max, Jaden, Ryan, Lydia and Emery Knipping; Carson, Logan, Hannah Hamik; Tommy Childers; numerous nieces and nephews; Danny and Shane Madsen of North Bend, and Cindy Meyer of Crete, all of which he considered family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dave of Pescadero, Calif.; brothers-in-law Joe Wisnieski and Tom Fogarty.

Richard “Dick” J. Dunker died March 29 at his home in North Bend. Richard was born July 1, 1949, in West Point to Roy and Wilma (Widhelm)Dunker.
Dick grew up on a farm near North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1967. He served in the US Army from June 20, 1969, until March 19, 1971, during the Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service.
Dick married Janet Foy on Feb. 23, 1974, in Snyder. Dick started farming in 1973 and lived on the farm until moving into town in 2016.
He was a lifetime member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of St. Charles Parish Council, member of V.F.W. Post 8223 and AmVets Post 20 of North Bend and the American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff. Dick served on the Cotterell Township Board for 20 years and the Co-op Board. He enjoyed shop work, old cars and his grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his wife, Janet; sons Kurt (Melissa) Dunker of North Bend and Neal (Jammie) Dunker of Mission, Kan.; daughters Laura (Eric) Chvatal of Morse Bluff and Melissa (John) Brackle of Fremont; sisters Jeanne (Bob) Dahlheim of North Bend, Patricia Taylor of Ames, Carol (David) Limbach of North Bend, Gloria Vosler of Morse Bluff and Diane (Alan) Sindelar of North Bend; sisters-in-law Marlene (Tom) Johnson and Jean Foy all of North Bend; brother-in-law Larry (Carol) Foy of Waterloo; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Charles and Rita Foy; and brothers-in-law Marvin and Robert Foy and Bill Taylor. Funeral Mass was April 1 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend with the Rev. Keith Rezac officiating. Knights of Columbus rosary was held on Friday. Military grave side services were conducted by members of V.F.W. Post 8223 and AmVets Post 20 of North Bend and American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff with burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Ridgeley near Scribner.

Gertrude “Billie” Lechtenberger, 101, of Fremont, formerly of North Bend, passed away March 5 at Silver Ridge Assisted Living in Gretna. Gertrude was born Feb. 17, 1916, in North Bend to Thomas and Anna (Rodewald) Johnson.
Gertrude was raised on the family farm in Dodge County and was a 1935 graduate of North Bend High School. She then graduated from Capitol School of Cosmetology in Omaha. She met Henry “Hank” Lechtenberger while working in her brother’s grocery store in Geneva. They were married April 2, 1938, in York. The couple farmed near Geneva until moving to a farm near North Bend in 1945. She was a school lunch manager at North Bend Central Jr./Sr. High School for 11 years. They moved to Fremont in 1980 and retired from farming in 1982. Hank preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1987.
Gertrude was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Fremont, United Presbyterian Women, the Mariner Club for over 65 years, the Presbyterian Quilters and the OES Ruth Chapter 119 at North Bend. She was a former member of the Pioneer Radio Club of Fremont, Webster Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Church of North Bend and the P.E.O. Chapter CT.
Gertrude is survived by son Rodney (Mary) Lechtenberger of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; daughter Charlene (Bob) Thome of Omaha; daughter-in-law Gay Lou Lechtenberger of Creston Iowa; son-in-law Barry Masten of Lincoln; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Richard; daughter Connie Masten; brothers Clarence Johnson, Lester Johnson and Walter Johnson; sisters Oletha Kern, Elizabeth Jamison, and Pauline Paxton; and granddaughter Lisbeth Sass.
Funeral service was held March 10, at the Presbyterian Church in Fremont. The Rev. Jon Ashley and Pastor Beth Ann Stone officiated.
Burial was at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend.

Bob W. Macklin, 90, of Fremont, died March 4 at Nye Legacy in Fremont. Bob was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Bloomfield to Henry “Hank” and Hattie (Miller) Macklin.
He moved to Walthill in 1932 and attended school there. He was a 1945 graduate of Walthill High School. Bob married Dorothy Pearson June 10, 1950, at Walthill. She preceded him in death June 1, 1979.
Bob was a corporal in the U.S. Army serving from July 5, 1945, to Jan. 18, 1947, during World War II in the European Theater. After his discharge, he worked in the Walthill area for two years and then moved to Fremont and worked at Hormel’s from 1950 until his retirement in Feb. 1983.
Bob married Carolyn J. Anderson on Feb. 12, 1983, in Fremont.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont and served on the church board for four years. Bob coached little league baseball for five years and was a leader and counselor for Boy Scouts of America for three years. He was a member of FOE 200 in Fremont and a life member of V.F.W. Post 8223 in North Bend.
Bob is survived by his wife Carolyn of Fremont; sons Steve (Anne) Macklin of Omaha, David (Lori) Anderson of Ames, and Tom Anderson of Kearney; daughters Linda (Pat) Roddy of Atlanta, Ga., Susan (James) Woita and Lori (Bryan) Stowe all of Lincoln; sister Barbara (Frank) Curry of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law Kathy Macklin of Sioux City, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Julie (Mike) Batia, Jill (Brian) Kloke, Tammie (John) Brodersen, Christopher Woita, Alex Woita, Amanda Woita and (Austin Christiansen), Kaitlin and Nicole Anderson; step grandchildren, Matt (Jen) Thomsen, Megan (Aaron) Dreeszen, Kayla Thomsen, David Stowe, Christian (Mariah) Stowe; and six great-grandchildren, Owen, Hayden, Mason Kloke, Mea’ Kalia’ Hopkins, and Kate and Grace Brodersen; step-great-grandchildren Brianne and Taylar Masters, Brayden Thomsen, Allison and Noah Stowe. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Dorothy; brother Norman Macklin and son Greg Anderson.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., March 9, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. on March 8, at Moser Memorial Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors by North Bend V.F.W. Post 8223 and AmVets Post 20 and Morse Bluff American Legion Post 340 will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Grant Leo Thomas Slattery, 9 days, was born Feb. 23 and died March 3.
Grant is survived by his parents Annie and David Slattery and his brother Parker, 2.5, of Lincoln; grandparents Alan and Ruth Slattery of Lincoln, Mark and Linda Brower of North Bend, and Jerry Kruger of North Bend; great-grandparents Don and Gladys Chvatal of Morse Bluff and Thomas Brower of Fremont; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

John A. “Jake” Limbach, 68, of North Bend, died Feb. 28 at his home. John was born July 16, 1948, in rural North Bend to John P. and Antonia L. “Ann”(Ritzdorf)Limbach.
He lived his entire life in North Bend and attended school in North Bend. Jake served in the U.S. Army from April 11, 1968, until April 1, 1970, during the Vietnam War.
Jake married Cindy Semrad on April 27, 1974, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. He was the owner of the Pour House Bar in North Bend for many years. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, North Bend AmVets and past member of the North Bend Volunteer Fire Department.
Jake is survived by his wife Cindy of North Bend; sons Dustin (Bridget) Limbach of Kearney, Devlin (Ryan) Limbach of Lincoln; daughter Darcie (Steve) Hubbard of Odessa, Texas; brothers Paul (Julee) Limbach of California, David (Carol) Limbach of North Bend; sisters Delores (Sam) Isom of Elkhorn, Kathy Limbach of Mead; grandchildren, Bailey, Sierra, Noah, Gannon, Morgan, Jasmine, Tim, Rebecca and Dakota; great- grandchildren, Ryder, Rayden and Anakin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Jane Limbach; daughter-in-law Amy Limbach.

Funeral services for Eunice Galyen of Meadow Grove were Feb. 18 at United Methodist Church in Meadow Grove. The Rev. Ralph Metschke officiated, with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk.
Eunice died Feb. 12 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Eunice Arlene (Dahl) was born Sept. 14, 1926, to Walter and Leona Dahl. She was united in marriage to Kenneth O. Galyen on Sept. 1, 1946, at Meadow Grove Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1985. Her entire life was spent in the Meadow Grove area. Following graduation from high school, Eunice taught school after receiving her normal training certificate.
Eunice was a dedicated farmer’s wife who enjoyed her flowers, gardening, playing bridge, and bird watching. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and a member of the Emerick Goldenrod Club. Eunice was also very active in her community, serving as a 4-H leader for over 30 years, volunteering at the nursing home, and teaching Sunday school. Her outstanding service was honored with the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award, the Madison County Outstanding Citizen Award, and she was named the LaVitsef Queen in Norfolk.
Eunice is survived by her three children, Cheryl (Bob) Peterson of Lincoln, Mariann (Drew) von Rein of North Bend, and Eugene (Suzie) Galyen of Meadow Grove; 10 grandchildren: Scott (Cassidy) Peterson of Knoxville, Tenn., Matthew (Leslie) Peterson of Lake Charles, La., David (Cassandra) Peterson of Lincoln, Erinn (Bryan) Wildung of Deephaven, Minn., Patricia von Rein (Mike Wegener) of Chicago, Ill., Andrea (Andy) Johnson of Omaha, Allison (Andy) Arkwright of Omaha, Michael Galyen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mark (Danielle) Galyen of Lincoln, and Ryan (Katie) Galyen of Lincoln; 16 great-grandchildren whom she adored; sister June (Arnold) Werner of Meadow Grove; brother Charles (Donna) Dahl of Meadow Grove; sister-in-law, Shirley Dahl of Tilden, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

Wilma E. Kavan of Fremont, formerly of North Bend, died Feb. 17 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. Wilma was born Nov. 7, 1931, on the family farm in Saunders County to Czech immigrants, Emanuel “Eman” and Emma (Sinkule) Grebenick. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Linwood High School in 1949.
Wilma married Richard J. Kavan on June 21, 1949, in North Bend. Richard preceded her in death on March 4, 1962. Together they established their business, Souvenir Isle, in North Bend in 1951. After his death she continued to operate the business on her own until 1972. She then worked several years at Blevins Popcorn Company.
Wilma was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend and St. Anne’s Altar Society.
She is survived by her daughters, Pat (Larry) Ruzicka of North Bend and Cindy (Bruce) Brown of Smithville, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Hailey (Kevin) Kraus, Melinn (Justin) Young, Tyler (Brittany) Ruzicka, Todd Ruzicka, Molly, Joe, and Nathan Brown; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Bernard (Sharon) Kavan and several nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard; and brother Al Grebenick.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Feb. 22, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. The Rev. Father Keith Rezac will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend.

Gerald (Jerry) Eugene Tipton of North Platte passed away on Feb. 10. Jerry was born in Akron, Ohio, on June 16, 1935, the son of Clarence and Helen Tipton.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Tipton, daughters Linda (Cecil) Payne, Cindy (Mark) King, Sandra (Colin) Jones, Elizabeth (Steve) Cahill, Gina (Jeff) Olson; sons Gerald (Kathy) Tipton Jr., Brian (Cindy) Haley; brother Bill Tipton; sister Beverly, 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Jerry served in the Air Force. He was a pillar in the Nebraska bowling community including owning Tipton Bowl in North Bend, pinsetter mechanic at Westbrook Lanes in Columbus, and a member of the North Bend Bowling Hall of Fame. Funeral services were at Carpenter Memorial Chapel on Feb. 13 with burial at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors.

Emanuel “Tom” T. Kovar Jr. of Fremont passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, at Premier Estates in Fremont.
Emanuel was born April 22, 1934, to Emanuel and Anna (Ustohal) Kovar in Linwood. He grew up on a farm near Schuyler and served in the United States Army from Aug. 14, 1956, to July 27, 1958. After the service, he married Linda Buchholtz on Jan. 10, 1959, in North Bend. The couple resided in Fremont.
Emanuel worked at Hormel for 38.5 years, until his retirement in 1997. He really enjoyed working with plants, so he decided to work for Walmart in the garden center as well as a greeter until his second retirement in 2011.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. He loved being outdoors. Listening to polka music and dancing were his other pastime hobbies. Emanuel enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family, and many friends. He always had a smile you could remember.
Tom is survived by his daughters, Diana Thompson and Annette Kovar both of Fremont, and grandson Dallas Thompson of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Linda; sisters Ann and Betty; and granddaughter Cheyenne Thompson.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Feb. 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. The Rev. Michael McGregor will officiate. Visitation with family receiving friends will be Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.

Janice E. Leffers of Schuyler passed away Feb. 5 at Fremont Health Medical Center. Janice was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Fremont to Richard and Bernice (Tenopir) Zakovec.
Janice was raised in Morse Bluff and graduated from North Bend Central High School in 1971. She then moved northwest of Schuyler. Janice attended Platte College in Columbus for two years, earning her Licensed Practical Nurse degree. She worked at several nursing homes in Schuyler, Wahoo, Columbus and Birchwood Manor in North Bend. She was later involved in home health care. Janice married Robert “Bob” Leffers in December of 2000 in Schuyler.
Janice was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Schuyler.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Leffers of Schuyler; her mother, Bernice Conkling of North Bend; brother Francis (JoAnn) Zakovec of Morse Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her father; step-father; son Adam Buchta, and uncle Wilfred Tenopir.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Feb. 8 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Pastor Bill Mattfeld will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery at Cedar Bluffs.

Harry E. Granger of Ames passed away Jan. 27 at his home.
Harry was born Dec. 22, 1928, in Chambers to Harry M. and Alice (Roy)Granger. He grew up around the Cedar Rapids area. Harry was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Fort Sill, Okla.
Harry married Jeannette Williams Sept. 16, 1956, in North Loup. Following his time in the Army the couple worked for farmers in central Nebraska and settled in Ames in 1970. He was a propane truck driver for Fremont Farmers Union Co-op, until he retired in 1990.
Harry was a member of FOE 200 in Fremont.
He is survived by his wife Jeannette of Ames; daughter Jerri (John) Starlin of Fremont; sons Tom (Jeanette) Granger of Omaha, Bill (Mary) Granger of North Bend, Andy (Linda) Granger of Fremont, John (Julie) Granger of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sisters Karen Carr of Pierce, Carol (Bob) Glass of Lancaster, Calif.; brothers Gerald (Janet) Granger of Lincoln, Richard (Delores) Granger of Newman Grove; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Daniel Granger, sisters Joellyn Granger and Shirley Battershaw and brothers Leo and Ed Granger.

Jeanyne L. Bang of Fremont died Jan. 13 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.
She was born March 14, 1936, in Hooper to Gustav (Gus) and Eleanor (Mehan) Ott. She grew up in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School in 1954. On Feb. 26, 1955, Jeanyne was married to Lyle Bang. They lived on the farm northwest of Fremont where Jeanyne was still living.
During her working years she worked for the ASCS office, and she later was a para for the North Bend Schools. She also worked at Camp Calvin Crest. She enjoyed working with ceramics. Jeanyne and her mother-in-law, Mabel Bang, baked cakes for people. Jeanyne baked cakes for her children’s and grandchildren’s birthdays, weddings and many other special occasions.
She was a member of Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active, serving on the church council, her circle, and singing in the choir.
Jeanyne was preceded in death by her husband Lyle in March of 2006, by her parents Gus and Eleanor and by a half brother.
Survivors include her daughter Sheila (David) Hull of Morse Bluff; sons Scott (fiancée Robin Theisen) Bang of Fremont, Wayde (Shelley) Bang of North Bend, Jay (fiancée Rhonda Shumake) Bang of Fremont; brother Wilbur (Alvertus) Ott of Prague; 15 grandchildren: Scott (Gina) Bang, Megan Bang, Tyler (Chelsey) Bang, Travis (Tasha) Bang, Morgan Bang, Machaela (Troy) Hackendahl, Talia (Tanner) Goes, Ethan Bang, Hailey Bang, Joshua Bang, Justin Bang, Jessica (Todd) Kingston, Lindsey (Richard) Schutt, Mallory (Logan) Paben, Mariah Hull; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Cindy Dvorak of O’Neill passed away on Jan. 9. She was born on May 4, 1958, to Richard and Lois (Finegan) Dvorak in Fremont. She was the third of seven children. Cindy was raised on a farm in North Bend and in 1981 moved with her family to Stuart.
Even though Cindy was born with Down syndrome, she was a hard worker. She had several jobs in her lifetime, from dishwasher to babysitter. Rocking her nieces and nephews was her favorite job.
Cindy always gave the best hugs, always made you smile and loved her family and friends deeply. She always loved bowling, especially with the Special Olympics.
Her daily pop from Pump & Pantry was a must, and Christmas was her favorite holiday.
Cindy is survived by her immediate family, including her parents Richard and Lois of Stuart, sister Nancy Snover and her husband Mark of Stuart; brothers Jerry Dvorak and his wife Kim of Stuart, Rick Dvorak and his wife Katie of Oconto, Bob Dvorak and his wife Judy of Stuart, Tom Dvorak and his wife Peggy of Stuart, and Jeff Dvorak and his wife Cheri of Stuart, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Albert and Emma Dvorak and John and Ethyl Finegan.
Funeral services were held at St. Boniface Catholic Church on Jan. 9 in Stuart followed by the burial at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Stuart.

Marie M. Ruzicka of Fremont, formerly of North Bend, passed away Jan. 2 at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont. She was born May 7, 1919, to Ray and Hilda (Hinrichsen) Warner on their family farm located north of North Bend.
Marie grew up on the farm in North Bend. She attended District 80 school and graduated North Bend High School in 1937. She married Emil Ruzicka Jan. 26, 1937, and they moved to his home place five miles northwest of North Bend. Emil passed away Nov. 16, 1991. Their family received the Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer Farm Family Award in September 2004.
Marie was a member of the former United Methodist Church in North Bend and an over 50-year member of United Methodist Women at the church and held all church and UM Women offices. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge at North Bend for many years and went through all their chairs, ZCBJ Lodge for over 50 years and the Rawhide Extension Club for many years.
Marie liked doing fancy work and playing cards. Marie moved into North Bend in 1992.
She is survived by her sons Emil (Judy) Ruzicka of Mesa, Ariz., Gene (Joyce) Ruzicka of North Bend, Bill (Donna) Ruzicka of Schuyler and Larry (Pat) Ruzicka of North Bend; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, daughter-in law Carolyn Ruzicka and grandson-in-law Jerry Zywiec.
Her funeral service was Jan. 7 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. The Rev. Michael McGregor of First United Methodist Church in Fremont officiated. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery, North Bend.
