Dog tags will cost a little more for owners who don’t register their pets with the city on time next year.

Ordinance 588 received the second of its three required readings at the Nov. 15 North Bend City Council meeting. It will make several changes and updates to fees and penalties assessed by the city.

Among those is a new penalty structure for late dog tag registrations.
Dog tags are $6 and due annually in January. Previously a late fee of $6 was added on Feb. 1 for a total of $12. City clerk Theresa Busse said some people are still delinquent on their 2022 tags here in November.

The new penalties will continue to add $6 per month to the fee. So on March 1, the fee will be $18 and will increase monthly to a total of $30 on May 1. Dog tag fees still not paid on June 1 will be taken to court.

To get a dog tag, owners have to pay the fee and provide proof of a current rabies shot. 2023 dog tags are now available at city hall.

Other sections of Ordinance 588 include:

• All building permits that require an elevation certificate or flood vents will pay a $500 deposit to be refunded when the city receives proper documentation of elevation or vents.

• Auditorium rental will be $400 with no alcohol and $500 with.
The ordinance will receive its third and final reading and be voted upon at the Dec. 6 meeting.
