The expressway north of North Bend is getting closer to completion. By the end of June drivers will be able to drive from Schuyler to Fremont on the new Highway 30 a mile north of North Bend, Nebraska Department of Transportation project manager Mick Jacobs told the Eagle Monday [June 5, 2023].

The expressway from the west currently closes at Highway 79. By the end of June, two lanes of the expressway will be open for head-to-head traffic all the way to Fremont. If that stretch of road is not open by July 1, the contractor faces penalties.

When it opens, the highway coming from the west will be four lanes up to County Road 10, 2.5 miles east of Highway 79. At that point the expressway will squeeze from four lanes to two lanes and will continue to Fremont using the future westbound lanes while the future eastbound lanes are finished.

County Road 10 will be closed where it intersects with the new 30 for the duration of the project.
