The streets weren’t yet torn up and the new auditorium bathrooms were finished the week before the wedding by Faust Construction.
They reconfigured, replaced, updated the men’s and women’s bathrooms in the auditorium.
Dedicated April 20, 1939, the auditorium was built at the total cost of $38,744 of which $21,504 came from the city and the remaining from the federal government’s Public Works Administration. North Bend had been without a large public meeting place since 1916 when the last opera house was torn down and the need was felt for a large gathering place. Little had been done to update the building except in April 1996 when cement work was done to raise the floor and remove steps in the bathrooms.
The restrooms have been totally rearranged and given a cleaner, more modern look. Before the men’s restroom just had shower curtains in front of the toilet stalls and if the north door and restroom door were open at the same time, the men were exposed. Gone are the showers used after basketball games in the 1940s through 1960s. The handicap toilet is in the front, but the other restrooms are in the back of the room where the showers once were. Also added is a diaper changing table in both restrooms.
