Board to present assessmentby Mary Le Arneal The North Bend Central Board of Education met April 8 and discussed the results of the Community Needs Assessment. There were a few items they highlighted but decided the results will be shared through the local newspaper and at a town hall meeting to be held the first full week in May. More details are coming. It was agreed to do a facility survey to go along with the assessment. The firm of Carson West Povondra Architects was hired to do the survey. The board approved Voss Lighting to replace the lighting in the high school and middle school with LED lights. The cost is $199,595 with a $10,264 rebate from OPPD. The project is contingent upon receiving a Nebraska Dollar and Energy Savings Loan with a loan rate of 1%. “With the annual cash savings on energy costs, we will more than cover the yearly payment, and have the project paid off in eight years,” superintendent Patrick Ningen said. The board approved a contract with Wilkins Architecture Design Planning out of Kearney as architect for the Family and Consumer Science lab remodel. The quotes for the commercial grade equipment for the room is over $100,000. A $100,000 Perkins Grant has been applied for that would pay for any movable equipment in the project but it will not be awarded until June. NBC facilities director Roy Wright will act as general contractor. They will start as soon as school is out with the goal to be done before the next school year. The board discussed approving a five-year subscription with Mosyle, an Apple platform that is used on all products in the school. The 5-year contract would be a $5,000 savings but the ability to get out of the contract before the 5 years was questioned. The subject was tabled until next month. The board approved the purchase of 2025 Thomas 59-passenger bus for $129,760. This is second of three buses NBC will buy to get the bus fleet updated.
