NORTH BEND – The Centennial Old Settlers is now itself part of history, and organizers deem it a smashing success.

“It went better than we could have imagined,” said Old Settlers Planning Committee member Stephanie Beckman. “The crowds blew us away and we had so much crowd participation.”

While it’s hard to put a number on attendance, all indications point to a record number of visitors and participants. Chamber carnival liaison

Rod Johnson said the DC Lynch carnival ticket sales were up 15% from last year.

The new events added this year, including the hot dog eating contest, Glory Days Tug-of-War tournament and the drone show, attracted large crowds.

The first three Heritage Trail guided tours sold out, so two more were added Sunday, also selling out as Judy Kleopfer entertained trolley riders with stories and insights to the history of North Bend, its buildings and people.

“It was a lot of work,” Kleopfer said, “but worth it for the comments I heard and the enjoyment seen on the faces of the tour takers.”

Matt Musiel also reported a record number of runners in the road race in the time he’s been organizing it.
