The North Bend Central Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting Nov. 11.

The board heard about Positive Intervention Support going on in both schools. They are focusing on kindness this semester with daily activities. The elementary students have partnered with the middle and high school students’ TAP groups to make connections. On Nov. 27 the middle and high school students will come to the elementary school for Friendsgiving. They will play games, do crafts and have snacks to foster positive relationships will all NBC students.

The board gave special recognition to Jade Nietfeld for being selected to sing the national anthem at a state wrestling event. Compliments went to chorus teacher to Kyndall Roberts also.

The federal government has outlawed 12-15 passenger vans for the use of student transportation. The board approved the purchase of a 14-passenger mini bus for $99,850. The driver will not have to have a CDL license. The board is already contracted to purchase a full size 59-passenger bus for delivery in summer 2025. They are also looking at purchasing a full-size SUV to replace the unusable vans. Superintendent Patrick Ningen is watching prices for a SUV.

Leo Blaha spoke to the board about the possibility of the school sponsoring as it does other sports or giving the students recognition for their participation in trap shooting.

“It has grown in the last 15 years,” Blaha said. “Now we have 12 to 15 NBC kids involved. I’m not asking for financial support. I’m asking for the kids to be recognized as representing their school.”
