Challenge made to complete highway sign

Published 9/4/24

An anonymous challenge donation has the Purcell Initiative on the home stretch of constructing a large, bright North Bend sign at the new intersection of highways 30 and 79.

Fundraising is on the home stretch for this 32-foot tall sign to be placed at the new intersection of highways 30 and 79.

The sign needs about $14,000 to be completed. It is hoped money can be raised so that the sign can be placed this fall. Grants have been received from the North Bend Area Community Foundation, Fremont Area Community Foundation, City of North Bend, North Bend Area Chamber of Commerce and donations from the Big Give challenge in May, totaling about $90,000. Now the public is asked to contribute to get the project across the finish line.

To receive the challenge donation, another $7,000 needs to be raised from the public. If you would like to support this project and invest in North Bend’s future, make a check out to Purcell Initiative and drop it off at the North Bend Eagle, 730 Main St. or mail your donation to P.O. Box 100, North Bend, NE 68649.

Purcell Initiative is an outgrowth of the North Bend Area Chamber of Commerce economic development committee. Its goal is to build bridges to the future for North Bend through generosity and possibilities.

The Purcell Initiative is also in the final stages of distributing a North Bend Area Community Attitude Survey with the help of Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District, in cooperation with the City of North Bend. The survey is scheduled to be released Sept. 9. Look for more info in next week’s Eagle.
