Signal of Nebraska began making rounds in North Bend Feb. 6 to enforce the city’s ordinances.

The city council approved a contract with Signal at its Jan. 21 meeting after meeting with Shane Wimer of Signal at its Jan. 6 meeting.

Wimer or another enforcement officer will be making weekly passes through North Bend for nuisance abatement.

At the Feb. 4 meeting, Mayor Rod Scott gave the first of three required readings of Ordinance 604, which establishes nuisance violation fees.
Most of the fines are $25 or $10 a week. The highest fines are $50 for obstructing fire hydrants or the fire station and for living in a camper.

The $25 fines include unregistered vehicles on the street, cars parked on the street for longer than 24 hours, unlicensed or inoperable vehicles on the street or private property, animals running at large, dead trees and grass or weeds over 12 inches.

Ten dollar fines include barking dogs and dogs unlicensed or not vaccinated.

In other business, the city council accepted the high bid of $251 for the scoreboards in the city auditorium. The bid went to the Grand Passage Sportsmen Club. Councilman Alex Legge, a member of the Grand Passage, said the club would likely fix the scoreboard and auction it off as a fundraiser.

The council started its most recent meetings with the Pledge of Allegiance, a tradition that the council restarted after many years of not doing it.
