NORTH BEND – This week local residents will be asked to open their hearts – and pocketbooks – to give their community a boost.

The annual Big Give fundraising challenge is a way to support the many community and charitable organizations in the area. The 2025 Big Give will take place the 24 hours of Thursday, May 8, when people are challenged to make an online donation at FremontAreaBigGive.org.

The Big Give is organized by the Fremont Area Community Foundation and supports 85 area organizations, including seven North Bend groups. When making a donation, donors will select which organizations they want their money to go toward.

North Bend organizations benefiting are the Purcell Initiative, North Bend Area Community Foundation, North Bend Central Foundation, North Bend Library Foundation, VFW Post 8223, the Grand Passage Sportsmen Fund and the North Bend Booster Club.

The Purcell Initiative is taking part of the Big Give for the second time this year. The group’s focus is on economic development and community growth in North Bend.

Last year the Purcell Initiative put its Big Give funds towards the erection of the North Bend sign at the intersection of highways 79 and 30 that was dedicated last week. This year Purcell will use its Big Give funds to finishing off that project, including paying for the rock and boulder landscaping around the base of the sign.

The North Bend Area Community Foundation receives, administers and disburses funds for community improvement and assistance in areas such as civic, cultural, educational, health and welfare needs.

The North Bend Central Foundation provides opportunities for students and teachers of North Bend Central schools beyond what is provided by tax support. These opportunities include scholarships, curricular and extra-curricular enrichment activities and professional development activities for teachers.

The North Bend Library Foundation financially supports projects at the public library, including ongoing adult programs and children’s activities.

The VFW Post 8223 honors and serves veterans and the community. The post sponsors youth organizations, promotes patriotism and other community events.

The Grand Passage Sportsmen Fund was built on the history and love of the outdoors, to provide a “grand passage” of hunting and fishing to the younger generations. Through outdoor sports, local youth can learn important virtues such as patience, respect, ethics, conservation, confidence, responsibility and emotional control.

North Bend Booster Club’s mission is to help make improvements that benefit NBC students, coaches, teachers and sponsors.
