Dohrman hired as city clerk

Tania Dohrman of North Bend was hired as North Bend’s new city clerk at last the Sept. 15 council meeting.

She will begin her duties Sept. 28 and will work and learn alongside current clerk Theresa Busse until her retirement on Oct. 21.

After going through the hiring process, councilman Waylon Fischer said the council should review some of its employment policies, specifically pointing to the city’s vacation policy. Currently, an employee can take time off, but does not receive paid vacation time until he or she has been employed for a year. Fischer said that policy is not up to date or competitive with other businesses. He said most places have two weeks of vacation with no waiting period.

Councilman Alex Legge said one week of vacation after one year was in line with what he would find if he were seeking a new plumbing job.
Mayor Rod Scott said the vacation time was not an issue with any of the interviewees.

Busse did agree that the employee handbook needed to be reviewed and updated. She said she could get examples of policies from surrounding towns to see what they do. Councilman Ken Streff said the council should review North Bend’s policies and discuss them at a future meeting.
