Howells vs. North Bend AmbushMarch 8, 2015, at North Bend - Championship game
Summary:Cinderalla’s ball was held at NBC Sunday night as the bottom two seeds in the Farmland Basketball League playoffs met for the championship. A tournament of upsets held to form as sixth-seeded Howells beat the No. 5 North Bend Ambush 62-58. The lower seed ended up winning all five playoff games. The Ambush stumbled out of the gate with missed shots and turnovers as Howells took a 7-0 lead. North Bend fought its way back into the game, eventually building a 10-point lead in late in the first half. Howells closed the gap a bit before halftime, doing most of its work from the free throw line. North Bend still led 35-31 at the break. Sam Schlautman hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 37 a few minutes in the second half and the teams traded baskets for the next 10 minutes. Howells gained a little bit of separation with a 6-0 run with around seven minutes left. Dan Martin scored five of those points, including a 3-pointer, putting the visitors up 53-48 with 6:32 left. Tyler Baumert scored a bucket for North Bend, followed by a 3-pointer from Garrett Hetzel as the Ambush closed it to 56-55 with 4:16 left. North Bend couldn’t regain the lead, though, as Howells hung on for the four-point victory. Kale Wietfeld led North Bend with 18 points and Jason Wehner added 10. Schlautman led the victors with 16 points while Martin contributed 15.
