Dennis Bailey, December 30, 2008, age 70
Funeral services for Dennis E. Bailey were Dec. 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Schuyler, with Vicar Bill Mattfeld officiating. Burial was at Schuyler Cemetery with military honors by Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the V.F.W. and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion.
Dennis was born May 28, 1938, in Schuyler to Morris E. and Geraldine (Douglass) Bailey. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1956. He served in the United States Navy from 1957-1961.
On Feb.14, 1970, he married Marjorie A. Schulz at Trinity Lutheran Church. Dennis worked as a Police Officer for the City of Schuyler 1961-1966, owned and operated Bailey Redi-Mix, and then ran Bailey Digging until retiring in 2000. Dennis died Friday, Dec. 26, at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lifetime member of the Schuyler Legion and VFW,
and was past member of the Schuyler Grade School Board.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Schuyler, daughter Michelle (Darrell) Parks, Prairie Village, Kan., son Todd (Shari) Bailey of Schuyler, one brother Gerald(Gwen) Bailey of Overland Park, Kan., two granddaughters.

Ronald W. Steenblock, December 23, 2008, age 55
Funeral services for Ronald William Steenbock were held Dec. 23, 2008, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Schuyler, with Jerry L. Kracl officiating. Burial was at the Schuyler Cemetery.
Ronald was born Feb. 11, 1953 in Council Bluffs, IA. to Lester W. and Arlu (Koenig) Steenbock. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1972.
On June 17, 1983, he married Nancy Nielsen in Omaha.
He had served as President of the Schuyler Chamber of Commerce and Church Council of St. John’s Lutheran.
Ronald is survived by his wife Nancy, daughters, Brook Steenbock, Omaha, Niki Nielsen, Denise (Bryan) Spilinek, both of Fremont; son Shannon (Mandy) Steenbock of Omaha; four grandchildren; sisters Colleen (Terry) Donaldson, Lockport, Ill., Karon (Gene) Christiansen and Sharon (Bill), Fitzgerald, of Persia, Iowa, Diane (Al) Kuta and Yvonne (Patrick) Tooley, of Columbus.

Myrna (Karsk) Chambers, December 11, 2008, age 93
Myrna Karsk Chambers was born near North Bend on Dec. 6, 1915, to John and Selma Karsk and died Dec. 11, 2008 at a retirement community in Newport News, Va. Myrna graduated from North Bend High School in 1933 and taught several years in rural schools, including District #56, where she had attended as a child. Later, she attended a business college and then worked as a secretary in the War Department.
Myrna married Ralph L. Chambers, a Tech Sgt. in the U.S. Army in l943 and when the war ended, she left civil service and became a full time mother. Sons, Larry, of Florence, Ore., and Terry, of Anchorage, Alaska, survive as well as her husband, grandchildren, nephews and nieces and sister-in-law, Vernelle Karsk Werblow of Fremont.
Her life was celebrated Dec. 18, 2008 at the Smith Funeral Home in Newport News. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery on Jan. 7, 2009.

Jean M. Tapster, December 2, 2008, age 88
Jean Tapster
Jean Margaret Tapster died at Merrick Manor in Fremont on Dec. 2, 2008. Jean was born Aug. 13, 1920, in North Bend to John and Emily (Collom) Tapster. Her family had lived in North Bend since 1894, where her father owned the Tapster Drug Store in downtown North Bend from 1904 until 1949.
Jean was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the church circle and an over 50 year member of Ruth Chapter #119, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by Dick and Betty Jurgens of North Bend, Richard, Diana and Steven Novak or Gretna, William Novak of Vanderberg Air Force Base, Calif., Leroy and Christine Bax of Omaha, Brian and Nathan Jurgens of Papillion.
The funeral was Dec. 5. at the United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Maetta Snyder officiating. Burial was at the Woodland Cemetery in North Bend.
Memorials are suggested for the United Presbyterian Church, North Bend Area Senior Center and the Fremont Area Medical Center.

Dorothy G. (Newberrey) Eaton, November 30, 2008, age 68
Dorothy Eaton
Dorothy G. Eaton of Columbus died Nov. 30, 2008, at Columbus Community Hospital. She was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Cumberland, Md., to Willliam and Wilma (Schaefer) Newberrey. She graduated from Franklin High School in Reisterstown, Md., and Central Community College in Columbus, and passed her CPA exam.
In 1958 Dorothy moved to Nebraska, living in Morse Bluff, Fremont, North Bend, returning to Maryland, then back to Schuyler, moving to Omaha in 1990, and Columbus in 2004. She ran Eaton Tax Service since 1971 and worked for the City of Omaha and account firms at places she lived.
On Nov. 24, 1957, Dorothy married Benjamin F. Eaton at Westminster, Md. He died Oct. 28, 2005.
Dorothy was a member of FOE Auxillary Aerie 3568 at Schuyler, Order of Eastern Star in Columbus, Daughters of The Nile in Omaha. She was a former member of the Amercian Business Women’s Assoc., Toastmasters in Omaha, Assoc. of Government Accountants, holding several offices; Volunteers Intervening for Equaity (VIE) conservatorship program and Senior Health Insurance information Program (SHIIP). Dorothy was a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Government Financial Manager.
Survivors include sons Ben Eaton Jr. of Lincoln, Richard (Malveen) Eaton, Martin (Diane) Eaton, all of Columbus, Gary (Tina) Eaton of Schuyler; daughter Cindy (Orlando) Stevenson of Columbus; sisters Carole Hofmeister, Wilma (Bruce) Lippy, Kay (Sam) Venri, all in Maryland; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 4 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend with Darrell Buck and the Rev. Celeste Norman officiating. There will be visitation two hours before the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Killan Cemetery near Morse Bluff.
Memorials are suggested for the American Heart Assoc., or American Cancer Society.

Doris E. (Wotipka) Moser, November 24, 2008, age 77
Doris Moser
Doris E. Moser of Fremont died Nov. 24 at Fremont Area Medical Center. She was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Wahoo to John and Wilma (Masek) Wotipka.
Doris grew up in rural Wahoo and was a 1949 graduate of Wahoo High School.
On Feb. 18, 1950, Doris married Edward L. Moser at Wahoo. He died Feb. 20, 2008. The couple moved to Cedar Bluffs in 1953 where they owned and operated the Moser Funeral Home. In 1966 they moved to Fremont and established Moser Memorial Chapel.
Doris was a licensed Funeral Director for 50 years. The couple also owned and operated the Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend and the Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington.
Doris was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, St. Patrick’s Women, Nebraska Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Laureate Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and former member of Altrusa International.
Survivors include daughters Mary (Robert) Bodell, Monica (Mark) Coulter; son John (Julie) Moser, all of Fremont; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Nov. 29 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. in Fremont. There will be a rosary vigil service Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont. Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials are suggested for Calvary Cemetery Endowment and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Alvis L. Eddins, November 16, 2008, age 56
Alvis Eddins
Alvis L. Eddins died Nov. 16, 2008, in Fremont. He was born April 2, 1952, in North Platte to William and Helen (Lankford) Eddins. He was a graduate of North Platte High School. He moved to North Bend in 1973 and was employed at Hillside Dehy Inc. in Uehling.
Alvis married Sandy Fischer on Dec., 15, 1973, at North Bend. She survives along with sons Scott (Mandi) Eddins, Jim (Melissa) Eddins, all of Fremont; brothers Tom (Joan) Eddins of North Platte, Pete (Marcia) Eddins of Colorado Springs, Colo.; parents-in-law Francis and Mary Fischer of Morse Bluff; four grandchildren.
The funeral was Nov. 19 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Captains Tim and Jen Gardner of the Salvation Army officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Foundation.

Robert Sours, November 13, 2008, age 83
Robert Dean Sours of Salem, Oregon, died Nov. 13. He was born April 25, 1925, to Floyd and Nettie Sours of North Bend. Robert served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He returned to North Bend until moving to Oregon in 1956. He became a Pentacostal minister in 1958.
He maried Verna Sjostrom of North Dakota in June 1950.
Survivors include son Bob (Karen) Sours, Blaine (Barb) Sours, Terry Sours; daughter Robbie (Gregg) Lawrence; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral and burial were in Salem Nov. 18.

Michael J. Wachsmuth, Jr., November 12, 2008, age 23
Micheal J. Wachsmuth, Jr., of Garrison, Minn., died Nov. 12, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Michael was born July 16, 1985, in California. He was a 2004 graduate of Brainerd (Minn) High School. He was a Garrison Vlunteer firefighter and a launch pilot for Garrison Sports and the Blue Goose. He volunteered as an elementary school wrestling coach and referee.
Survivors include his wife, Kayla Weber of Garrison; mother Laurea Steinbach of Wahkon, Minn; father Michael Wachsmuth of Aitkin, Minn.; brother Andrew Wachsmuth of Wahkon; sisters Krista Wachsmuth of LaVista, Nebr., April Wachsmuth of Wahkon; grandparents Shirly Sloan of Coon Rapids, Minn,, Marvin and Yvonne Steinbach of Morse Bluff; nephew Alexander Smith of La Vista.
A fightfighter’s funeral was held Nov. 15 in Garriaon. Graveside service were Nov. 18 at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Don Cleary of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend officiating.
Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend was in charge of the local arrangements.

Martha J. (Gallatin) Romero, November 11, 2008, age 66
Martha J. Romero of North Bend died Nov. 11, 2008, at Birchwood Manor.
Martha was born June 19, 1942, in Trenton, Mo., to Vernon and Deloris (Ellis) Gallatin. She grew up in Fremont and was a graduate of Fremont High School. She lived around the country before moving to Columbus, then Fremont where she worked at Valmont Industires and Hormel. Martha moved to North Bend in 2006.
Martha Gallatin married Robert F. Stoltenbert in Fremont. On Jan. 14, 1978. She married Daniel Romero in Omaha.
Survivors include her husbndDaniel, son John (Laura) Stoltenbert of Greensburg, Kan.; daughter Kathy (Harry) Wenick of Wahougal, Wash.; step-sons Terry (Deborah) Romero of Yorba Linda, Calif., Larry (Sandy) Romero of North Carolina; step-daughters Joann (John) Wilson of Boron, Calif., Cheri (Doug) Farrington of Troutville, Ore.; brothers Mike (Sandy) Gallatin of North Bend, Kevin (Laura) Gallatin of Nixa, Mo.; sisters Vanessa (Bob) Kalio of Lincon, Marilyn (Stan) Freeman of Fremont, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.
There will be no public service. Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend, handled the arrangements.
Memorials are suggested for the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy (Legler) Morbach, November 6, 2008, age 83
Dorothy Morbach
Dorothy Morbach died Nov. 6, 2008, at David Place in David City. The funeral was Nov. 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler with Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Burial was at Presentation Cemetery in rural Bellwood.
Memorials are suggested for the Colfax County Senior Center.
Dorothy was born Nov.18, 1924, in Raymond to David and Ruby (Scott) Legler. She graduated from Schuyler High School and earned a Masters Degree in Teaching from Concordia College of Seward. She taught school for over forty years.
On Nov. 18, 1944, she married Harry Lee Morbach in Marietta. They lived in Schuyler and in 1951 moved to the family farm near Bellwood. Dorothy returned to Schuyler following Harry’s death. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Schuyler, Catholic Daughters of America-David City Chapter and was a founding member of the ADK Teachers Sorority.
Survivors include two sons David (Carman Morbach) of Walla Walla, Wash. Joseph (Kathy) Morbach, Fort Worth, Texas; daughters Doll (Gerald) Hamata of Schuyler, Sheila (James) Lyons of Kernersville, N.C., Kimberly (Richard) Claiborne of Fremont; brother, Bill (Pat) Legler, Fremont; sisters Evelyn Vanicek, Marilyn (Vern) Eilers, all of Schuyler, Marjorie Mihulka of Columbus; nine grandchildre and five great-grandchildren.

Benjamin Pokorny, November 5, 2008, age 82
Benjamin Pokorny of Fremont, formerly of rural Wahoo, died Nov. 5, 2008, at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughters Karen (Kirk) Kavan of North Bend, Laurie (Jim) Martens of Waterloo, Jeanette (Doug) Stuart of Omaha; son James Pokorny of Lincoln; seven grandchildren including Kaitlyn and Kyle Kavan of North Bend.
The funeral was Nov. 8 at the Czech Presbyterian Church in rural Wahoo. His grandson, Kyle Kavan, played “Taps” at the commital service.

William R. Emanuel, November 4, 2008, age 80
Bill Emanuel
William R. “Bill” Emanuel, 80 years, of Fremont, died Nov. 4, 2008, at his home. He was born March 10, 1928, at Webster to Matthew and Ellen (Brennan) Emanuel. He grew up in Webster and Fremont, and was a 1945 graduate of Fremont High School.
Bill married Elaine L. Mihulka on Sept. 24, 1949, in Fremont. He was a partner of EPE Insurance Enterprises at Fremont. He was past president of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, the Knights of Columbus Council 1497 of Fremont, the Fremont Life Underwriters, the Nebraska Life Leaders, Nebraska Association of Life Underwriters and the Fremont Golf Club. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont, Knights of Columbus Council 1497 and a past Grand Knight, and member of Fr. Leo Raus Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Bill is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Mark (Julie) Emanuel of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Nancy (Doug) Leypoldt of Ralston, Sandy (Harold) Cone of Fremont, Karen Odinas of Ft. Collins, Colo.; brother, Donald (Dolores) Emanuel of Fremont; sisters Dolores Rief of Wisner and Agnes Lewis of Denver, Colo; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was Nov. 10 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont with Rev. Owen Korte officiating. A private family burial was held at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the Emanuel Bergan Endowment Fund.

Kathy L. Van Waes, October 28, 2008, age 48
Kathy Van Waes
Kathy L. Van Waes of Morse Bluff died Oct. 28, 2008, at her home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1960, to Bill and JoAnn Van Waes at Jacksonville, N.C. As a child she lived in various areas while her father was in the military. She was a graduate of Craigmont High School, Memphis, Tenn. As a adult she lived in Valley, Omaha and Fremont before moving to North Bend in 2001 and later to Morse Bluff.
She was employed at Kerry Ingredients in Fremont.
Survivors include her daughter Lexie Scott of Morse Bluff; parents and brother Kerry Van Waes, all of Lowden, Iowa; and special friend Mitch Arps of Morse Bluff.
The funeral was Oct. 31 at the Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials are suggested for the American Cancer Society.

Deanna J. (Kuhn) Wolfe, October 25, 2008, age 64
Deanna J. Wolfe died Oct. 25, 2008, at Birchwood Manor. She was born April 25, 1944, in Columbus to Eugene and Marcella (Drummond) Kuhn and grew up on a farm near Fullerton. Her family move to Columbus where she graduated from Columbus High School.
Deanna lived in Lincoln, Omaha, Ft. Collins, Colo., before moving to North Bend in 2006.
She was united with Ron Schneider in 1987. He died in 2002.
Survivors include her son, James D. Wolfe of Lincoln; daughters Denise Wolfe of North Bend, Charlene (Saeed) Keyhan of La Vista, her parents of Columbus; brother Eugene (Deb) Kuhn Jr. of Elizabeth City, N.C.; sisters Joanne Lukery of David City, Sharon (Jim) Resh of Silver Creek; two grandchildren.
Memorial service will be Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend, with the Rev. Maetta Snyder of the North Bend United Presbyterian Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Doris (Garber) Chromy, October 4, 2008, age 47
Doris Chromy
Doris A. Chromy of Morse Bluff died Oct. 4, 2008, at her home. She was born June 22, 1961, in Lincoln to Eldon and Eleanor Garber. She attended grade school in Lincoln, moved to Norfolk where she attended high school before her family moved to North Bend in 1977. Doris was a 1979 graduate of North Bend Central High School. She attended Kearney State College for two years.
On July 25, 1981, Doris married Donald G. Chromy in North Bend. Doris was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, was involved in Sister’s of Faith LWML and was a member of the Morse Bluff Village Board.
Doris had been manager at North Bend Mini-Mart for the past 15 years.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Morse Bluff; sons Jacob Chromy of Ramstein, Germany, Mark Chromy of Morse Bluff, John Chromy of Ft. Riley, Kan.; parents Eldon and Eleanor Garber of North Bend; brothers Dan (Shu) Garber of West Point, Darrel Garber, Darren (Kris) Garber all of Pierce; sisters Donna (Paul) Obermann of Peoria, Ill., Darla Garber of Columbus; mother-in-law Dorothy Chromy of North Bend; sisters-in-law Kathy (Dan) Bauer, Jenne (Mike) Quinn of Columbus; brothers-in-law Steve (Audrey) Chromy of North Bend, Bob (Sandy) Chromy, Ed (Becky) Chromy, all of Fremont; 27 nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Groh officiating. Visitation will be Oct. 8 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend, followed by a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.
Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Morse Bluff.

Karen A. Finch, September 28, 2008, age 43
Karen A. Finch of Omaha died Sept. 28, 2008, at her home.
She is survived by her husband, Eric Finch, birth son Justice Dake (parents Liz and Jim Dake) of Ames; daughters Erica, Ebony, Erin Finch; grandchildren Tashiya and Taniya McClinton, all of Omaha.
Funeral services were held Oct. 6 with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Omaha.

Eugena (Barta) Kucera, September 26, 2008, age 88
Eugenia L. Kucera of Fremont
died in her home early Friday, Sept. 26, 2008.
Eugenia was born Sept. 3, 1920 in Rescue Joseph and Frances ‘Jurek’ Barta. She lived most of her life in Fremont.
On Oct. 20, 1975, she married to Ernest G. Kucera,who preceded her in death..
Eugenia was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sister Gabriella Barta of Fremont; three nephews
Graveside service were Sept. 30 at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.

Lenor F. Benesch, September 22, 2008, age 87
Lenor F. Benesch of Schuyler died Sept. 22, 2008, at Golden Living Center in Schuyler.
Funeral services were Sept. 27 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Schuyler with Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Burial was at the Schuyler Cemetery with military honors by Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the V.F.W. and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion
Lenor was born April 26, 1921, in Edholm, Nebraska, to Emanuel and Frances (Liskovec) Benesch. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1938, after which he went to Washington, D.C. and worked in the Civil Service. On Sept. 22, 1942, he entered the Army, serving in the European Theater as an airplane mechanic. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Schuyler.
On August 7, 1951, Lenor and Geraldine Abraham were married at St. Augustine. He worked for Frontier Oil Company, Schuyler Coop and at Wagner Mills. After retiring, he worked at the Schuyler Golf Club in course management.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Schuyler Legion and Schuyler VFW where he was Treasurer.
Lenor is survived by his wife Geraldine of Schuyler, two sons, Dr. Kevin (Debbie) Benesch of Lincoln, Dr. Curtis (Dr. Neeru Sehgal) Benesch of Rochester, New York.; four grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley Benesch of Schuyler.

Agnes (Haba) Kucera, September 16, 2008, age 93
Agnes Kucera of Schuyler died Sept.16, 2008, at David Place in David City. Funeral services were Sept, 20 at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler with Jerry L. Kracl speaking. Burial was at Linwood Hill Cemetery. Memorials are suggested for the Linwood Hill Cemetery.
Agnes was born Nov. 30, 1914, in Rescue to Joseph and Rosalie (Kliment) Haba. She graduated from Prague High School.
On Nov. 24, 1942, she married Edward T. Kucera in David City. They farmed near Linwood until moving to Schuyler in 1989. He died in 2005. She served as Secretary for the Linwood Hill Cemetery, was a member of the Linwood Community Club and volunteered at the Schuyler Eagle’s Club.
Agnes is survived by daughters Geraldine (Gary) Polacek of Bruno, Karen (Alden) Kment of Schuyler, Loretta (Edwin Jr.) Patchen of Fremont, Jeanette (Tim) Blake of Schuyler; brother William Elmer Haba of David City, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, three sisters, Rosie Tomek, Bessie Dauel and Christina Haba.

Helen M. (Coen) Jones, September 15, 2008, age 79
Helen Marie Jones of Green Forest, Ark., died Sept. 15, 2008, at her home. She was born Nov. 22, 1928, to Lawrence and Marie (Mehaffey) Coen of North Bend.
She was married to Rex Jones. Together they operated the Cozy Court Motel in Green Forest. He preceded her in death, Helen continued to operate the hotel until her death.

Lloyd Manske
Lloyd E. Manske of Fremont, died Sept. 12, 2008, at Nye pointe in Fremont. He was born to William August and Emma Louise (Dommer) Manske of Pierce. He was a 1944 graduate of Pierce High School. He served in the Navy on the USS Leedstown in the South Pacific during World War II.
On June 30, 1946, Lloyd married Lorraine Christensen at Columbus. The couple lived in Wayne, Orchard, Anoka, Minn, and Fremont before moving to McGinn’s Lake in North Bend in 1989. Lorraine died Jan. 30, 1999.
Lloyd worked in the printing business as a linotype operator. He and Lorraine owned the Orchard weekly paper from 1956 to 1959.
Lloyd was a member of American Legion Posts at Wayne, Morse Bluff and Anoka, VFW Posts in Wayne and North Bend and the Masonic Lodge in Wayne.
Survivors include sons Douglas (Muriel) Manske of Omaha, Jack (Kathy) Manske of Wichita, Kan., William Todd (Debbie) Manske of Coon Rapids, Minn.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Sept. 16 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Chaplain James Jost of Omaha officiating. Burial will be at Veterans Memorial Park in Greenwood Cemetery at Wayne with military graveside services.

Valiera M. Stockamp of Scribner died Sept. 12, 2008, in the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner.

Valiera was born Nov. 24, 1924, in rural Hooper to George and Marie (Fischer) Hoegemeyer. She was baptized on Dec. 7, 1924, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Scribner. Valiera was raised in the rural Hooper area and was confirmed on July 24, 1938, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She attended District 16 school and graduated from Scribner High School in 1942. Valiera worked for Dr. Stehl in Scribner.
On May 24, 1953, Valiera married to Dennis G. Stockamp at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
They were lifetime residents of the Scribner area, farming until moving into Scribner. After their children were grown, Valiera began working at the Good Samaritan Center until 1991. Recently she had been a resident of the Elkhorn Valley Villa.
Valiera was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Scribner where she was active in choir, Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Layman League and had been the secretary there.
Survivors include her husband Dennis, sons Paul (Dee) Stockamp, George (Janet) Stockamp, John (Lisa) Stockamp, Carl ‘Ernie’ (Shelly) Stockamp, all of Scribner; daughters Mary (Jim) Spath of North Bend, Beth (Kerry) Boyle of Scribner; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Elveretta Sutterfield of Loveland, Colo.

Myrtle Viola HiIlman was born Sept. 11, 1909, in Wausa, to Anthon and Laura (Newman) Nelson. She died September 15, 2008 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.

The Nelson family moved to Essex, Iowa, when Myrtle was 4 years old. She attended rural school and graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1927. She was a confirmed member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Essex.
Myrtle was united in marriage to Milton Hillman on Dec. 22, 1934. The couple resided in Essex.
She is survived by son Jim (Mary Ann) Hillman of Lee Summit, Mo., daughter Judy (Stan) Jorgensen of North Bend; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Margret Hillman of Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral services were Sept. 18, 2008, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Essex, with Pastor Jerry Lamb officiating. Interment was in the Essex Cemetery. Memorials in Myrtle’s name are being directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Zach was born April 18, 1988, in Kearney. His parents are John and Julie (Pycha) Cech of Schuyler and his biological mother is Ange Willard of Axtell. He attended Fisher School, District 24, through the sixth grade and graduated in 2007 from Clarkson High School. He attended Southeast Community College in Milford and was working at Farmers Union Coop in Clarkson.
He is survived by his parents, John and Julie Cech; brother Joseph Cech, all of Schuyler; half-brother Dashel Bierman of Columbus; his daughter Hannah Matthies and her mother Annie Matthies of Clarkson; grandmothers, Martha Pycha and Dolores Cech, both of Schuyler.

Joseph H. Kenney of Omaha was born June 21, 1915 in North Bend to Joseph A. and Nellie (Foy) Kenney. He died Sept. 11, 2008, in Omaha.
Joe graduated from North Bend High School in 1933. His parents ran the Kenney’s Cash Red & White Store from 1921 to 1937 in downtown North Bend. Joe ran the J.H. Kenney Food Brokerage Company in 1949 until retiring in 1985.
He is survived by wife, Barbara J. Kenney; stepdaughters Jacqueline Ann Hogen of Colorado Springs, CO, Patricia Mary (William) Gorham of Bellevue; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Elkhorn on Sept. 17. Internment was at Calvary Cemetery, Omaha.

Virginia Poulas Guillory of Rogers, Ark., died Sept. 5, 2008, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale, Ark.

Viginia was born May 5, 1950, to James and Anita (Vrba) Poulas of Ames. She grew up near North Bend and graduated from Fremont High School in 1968 and from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a bachelor’s degree in special education.
In Jan. 1971 she married Dan Guillory while he was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base. She spent the years thereafter teaching in various school systems during her husband’s military career. In 1994 Dan retired from the Air Force and they settled in Rogers, Ark.
Viginia was diagnosed with soft tissue cancer in Jan. 2006, continuing to teach until May 2008. Her daughter-in-law, Sonia, died in Feb. 2008 from breast cancer.
Survivors include her husband, son D.J. of Bentonville, Ark.; mother Anita Poulas of Fremont, brothers Jim (Jan) Poulas of Ames, Ron (Maxine) Poulas of Fremont; sister Imogene (Bob) Kucera of Fremont; three grandsons.
The funeral was Sept. 13 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery, Fremont.

Rev. Daniel E. Galas, September 3, 2008, age 78
Rev. Daniel E. Galas of Omaha died Sept. 3, 2008. He was an ordained priest of 51 years for the Archdiocese of Omaha serving numerous parishes in Nebraska, including St. Charles parish in North Bend from 1992 until his retirment in 2000.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3019.
Preceded in death by parents John and Victoria Galas and 11 siblings.
He is survived by sisters Mary Petersen, Leona Janak; brothers Walter Galas, Leo (Evelyn) Galas, Edmund “Eddie” (Jeanne) Galas.

Quentin D. Johnson, August 30, 2008, age 89
Quentin Dennis Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., died Aug. 30, 2008. He was born in Hooper to Dr. Christian and Lillian Johnson. He served in the Army during WWII.
On Sept. 22, 1945, he married Mary Frances Siders of North Bend. They moved to California where Quentin graduated from University of Southern California and practiced public accounting in San Fernando, Calif., for 25 years. He served as councilman and mayor of San Fernando.
Survivors include his wife of Tucson, daughter Patricia Pelletier of Northridge, Calif., son Mark Johnson of Ft. Collins, Colo., six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Dewell Johnson.
A memorial Mass was held Sept. 6 st St. Sorrows Catholic Church.Burial will be at a later date.

Cathy was born Aug. 28, 1951, in Pender to James and Winifred (Jahde) Welsh. She graduated from Pender High School in 1969 and from St. Elizabeth’s School of Radiology as a Radiology Technologist in 1971.
On Oct. 30, 1976, Cathy married Don Krzycki at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender.
Cathy worked at Schuyler Memorial Hospital from 1971-2001, worked part-time at Columbus Community Hospital from 1981-2002 and went to full time at CCH in 2002.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and American Society of Radiology Technologists. She was the second recipient of the Alegent Health CARING KIND AWARD while employed in Schuyler.
Cathy is survived by her husband Don; daughter, Kelly (Glaucio) Xavier of Lincoln; son Phillip Kyzycki of Omaha; brothers Tom (Robbie) Welsh, Ray (Deb) Welsh, all of Pender, three sisters, Carol Hilker of Pender, Jean (Paul) Burbach of Central City, Donna (Raoul) Reiser of Fort Collins, Colo.; two grandchildren; brother-in-law Jim Krzycki of Schuyler.

Kenneth E. Hesse, August 28, 2008, age 81
Kenneth E. Heese of North Bend died Aug. 28, 2008, at Alegent Hospital in Schuyler.
Kenneth was born Aug. 25, 1927, to William and Elizabeth (Beaumont) Hesse in Dodge. He graduated from Scribner High School. Kenneth farmed northwest of North Bend until retiring in 1990.
On Aug. 28, 1965, he married Erlaine Swanson at St. John’s Ridgeley Lutheran Church. They moved to North Bend in 1973. Erlaine died Jan. 21, 2008.
Kenneth was a former member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church at Pleasant Valley until the church closed, serving on the church council. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, North Bend.
Kenneth is survived by his brother Maynard (Marjean) Heese of Schuyler; sister Vergean (Jim) Joiner of Rolla, Mo.; sister-in-law Margaret Heese of Fremont.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m., Sept. 3, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Andersen officiating. Visitation will be Sept. 2, 2 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend. There will be visitation at the church Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Mary C. Moore Sauer of Schuyler died Aug. 28, 2008, at Mory’s Haven in Columbus.

Mary was born April 9, 1915, in Park, Kan.,to Paul and Elizabeth (Ochs) Kaiser. She graduated from Park High School.
On Aug. 4, 1941, she married Joseph Richard Moore at Park Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After the war, they moved to Schuyler where she worked at the Top Notch Cafe and later at D&L in Columbus until retirement. Joseph died Nov.17, 1970.
On Feb. 14, 1986, Mary married Peter Sauer, Jr. at Rose Hill, Kansas. Pete died in 1991.
Mary was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Little Flower Altar Society and was a Charter Member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Mary is survived by daughter, Edith Iwan of Thoreau, N. Marvin Jedlicka of Schuyler died Aug. 25, 2008, at his home. The funeral was Aug. 29 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler with Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. The burial was at Schuyler Cemetery with military honors by Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the V.F.W. and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion.
Marvin was born Sept.25, 1934, in Colfax County to Adolph and Vlasta (Novotny) Jedlicka. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1951 and served in the United States Navy.
On April 24, 1957, Marvin married Shirley Kracman at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Heun.They lived and farmed northwest of Schuyler until moving to Schuyler
in 1995, where he worked as a clerk for Brichacek Auction Company.
Marvin was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler, the Knights of Columbus, Schuyler Eagle’s Club and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Jay (Lois) Jedlicka; daughter Jolene (Randy) Kassmeier; brother Gordon (Maxine) Jedlicka, all of Schuyler; six grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Aron Dean Arps of Morse Bluff died Aug. 25, 2008, in Fremont.

Dean was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Schuyler to Fred and Esther (Stoltenberg) Arps. He grew up in the Linwood and Abie area and was a graduate of David City High School. In 1952 Dean and his father started a gravel pumping business. Dean then served in the Army from 1956 to 1958. After his discharge he and Fred started Arps Red-E-Mix in North Bend. He lived in North Bend until 1973 then moved to Fremont. Dean retired from the concrete business in 1989 and started farming in North Bend in 1990. In 2002 he moved to Morse Bluff.
Dean was a member of First Lutheran Church, Fremont, Masonic Lodge #119, A.F. & A.M. of North Bend.
On May 24, 1958, Dean married Marilyn J. Loseke in Schuyler. She died Feb. 22, 2003.
Survivors include sons Michael (Tricia) Arps, Mitch (Kathy VanWaes), all of Fremont; two grandchildren, special friend Virginia Studt of Fremont.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 28 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Charlie Axness officiating.
Visitation will be Aug. 27 from 2 to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont. On Aug. 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. there will be visitation at he the church.

Loren K. Anderson, August 25, 2008, age 91
Loren K. Anderson of Fremont died Aug. 25, 2008, in Fremont. He was born Nov. 26, 1916, in North Bend to Charles and Martha (Corn) Anderson. Loren was a 1934 graduate of North Bend High School.
Loren farmed until 1972 and then drove a school bus for 11 years.
He served as sexton, caretaker, maintenance, grave digger and board member of North Bend’s Woodland Cemetery for many years.
On Sept. 20, 1945, Loren married Ruby L. Connerley in North Bend. She died March 26, 2003. Loren moved to Fremont in April 2003.
Loren is survived by daughters Linda (Bill) Hindmarsh of Fremont, Karen (Bill) Hubbard of Troy, Mont., four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service Aug. 30 at the Presbyterian Church Chapel in Fremont with Rev. Dr. William Lewis officiating. There will be no visitation, but friends may sign the register book on Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Moser Memorial in Fremont.
There will be a private burial at Woodland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the North Bend Library Building Fund.

Joseph A. Buresh, August 23, 2008, age 74
Joseph A. Buresh of Columbus died Aug. 23, 2008, in Omaha. He was born Feb. 7, 1934, southwest of Morse Bluff to Joseph J. and Mary (Hlady) Buresh. The family moved to a farm northeast of North Bend when he was an infant. Joe attended District 10 and was a 1952 graduate of North Bend High School.
In 1952 he joined the Nebraska National Guard, serving until 1961.
On Nov. 15, 1955, Joe married Magdalene Hegemann at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. The couple farmed northwest of Rogers until 1991 when they moved to Columbus where Joe worked at Ebel Inc.
Joe was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, EME; 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council; the first Grand Knight of the St. Isidore Council 12086 and Hartman Post 84 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Magdalene of Columbus, brother Francis (Marge) Buresh, sister Mary Ann Buresh, and sister-in-law Agnes Buresh, all of North Bend.
The funeral is Aug. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Joseph Miksch officiating. There will be a vigil Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at St. Isidore with visitation Aug. 27 after 5 p.m. and Aug. 28 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Internment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard.

Valburga A. Pabian died Aug. 17, 2008, at Birchwood Manor. Val was born June 21, 1924, to Paul and Magdalena (Arps) Chudomelka of rural Dodge. Val moved from Dodge to Fremont at the age of 14 and was a 1942 graduate of Fremont High School .
She married Frank Farmer on May 5, 1944. He died Dec. 7, 1947. Val married Victor C. Pabian on Jan. 23, 1951, at Cedar Hill Catholic Church and moved to Morse Bluff. In 1969 they moved to North Bend. He died Nov. 27, 1985.
Val worked at Hormel in Fremont for a number of years. She worked at Birchwood Manor for 34 years.
Val was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society at North Bend and the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 340 of Morse Bluff.

Gary W. Garmong, August 3, 2008, age 61
Gary W. Garmong of Elkhorn died Aug. 3, 2008, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Gary was born March 13, 1947, in Omaha to Robert and Celestine Garmong.
From Aug. 14, 1967, to July 25, 1969, Gary served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was assigned to the 1st Battalion 87th Infantry stationed at Baumholder, Germany. Following his service he worked for his uncles, Ray and Don Maly, doing roofing.
Gary is survived by his mother, Celestine (Sally) Timmons of North Bend; sister, Celeste Garmong of Omaha; brothers, Clyde (Joan) Garmong and Robert (Cindi) Garmong all of Omaha; and nephews and nieces.
A funeral mass was held Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Cleary officiating. There was no visitation. Wesley E. Lamberson, August 2, 2008, age 54
Wesley E. Lamberson of Prague died Aug. 2, 2008 at his home in Prague.
Wesley was born in Laredo, Texas, on April 16, 1954 to Delmas E. and Marjorie O. (Glock) Lamberson. He was a graduate of Kimball County High School, attended UNL 1972-73, and graduated from Doane College (1996 BA/Educ., M./ed in 2004),
On March 23, 1974, he married Marcia M. Stevens.
He served as a Cadet on the Lincoln Police Force in 1973-74, and as an LPD Officer from 1974-1991, foster parent 1986-1993, taught at Odell and Mead Public Schools 1997-2004, and principal and teacher at Fremont Platteville Elementary 2004-2008. He was a member Mead Covenant Church, Sons of American Legion Squad #3, Crete Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Mason, Order of Eastern Star Crete Chapter #104 and former member Motor Corp 400.
Survivors include his wife Marcia: daughters Brandy Lamberson, of Lincoln, Eileen (Jeffrey) Bramble of Lincoln, Bobbi Jo Lamberson of Beatrice, Rebekah Lamberson of Prague; son Joshua Lamberson (Mandy Tryon) of Durant, Okla.; four grandchildren; father, Delmas Lamberson of Lincoln, sister Linda (John) Lustrea of Garland.

Lucille F. (Kempkes) Thurber, July 28, 2008, age 84

Lucille Frances Thurber, the daughter of George and Fannie (Maruska) Kempkes was born on March 16, 1924 at Cowles, Nebraska. She passed away on July 28, 2008 at the Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 12 days.
Lucille graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1941. She was united in marriage to Marvin R. Thurber on June 7, 1942, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Superior. To this union 5 children were born.
Lucille lived in the Superior and Nelson communities and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson. Her special interests included crocheting, sewing, quilts and needle work, her flower garden and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed birdwatching as a pastime with her husband.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Marvin on December 28, 1999; daughter Georgia in 2002 and four sisters, Rosie Meester, Helen Haag, Mildred Grummert, and Thelma Arnold and her brother, George Kempkes.
Survivors include her three daughters, Frances Butler of Nelson, Cheryl (Larry) Feala of North Bend, Janet (Jerome) Warneke of Grand Island, and one son, Marvin (Lunda) Thurber, Jr. of Jackson, Wyoming; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Joe Haag of Farmington, New Mexico; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held August 5, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson.
Pallbearers were Jerry Warneke, Larry Feala, Seth Feala, Jason Feala, Virgel Thurber, Terry Grummert and Phil Peters. Honorary Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Michael Hutchins, Mark Hutchins, Kenna Betancur, Michaela Feala, Jason Feala, Seth Feala, Amber Kempkes, and Aaron Kempkes.
Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.

Minnie L. (Lukassen) Shonka, 99 and formerly of North Bend, died at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont July 23, 2008.

Minnie was born Jan. 28, 1909 to Theodore and Agusta (Kosch) Lukassen in David City.
Following her May 1, 1934 marriage to Sylvester Shonka the couple farmed in the Dwight and Ulysses areas until 1943 when they moved to Brainard. In 1963 they moved to North Bend and operated the Highway 30 Bar.
Minnie is survived by son Kenneth Shonka of Eureka Springs, Ark.; daughter Janice (Jack) Meysenburg of Omaha; brother Francis (Lucille) Lukassen of David City; sister Sally McLaughlin of David City; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. Her funeral mass was held July 28 with Rev. Donald Cleary officiating. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery. Moser Memorial Chapel was charged with arrangements.

Ann F. (Kula) Tworek, July 19, 2008, age 91
Ann F. Tworek of Genoa died July 19, 2008, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center, Osceola. She was born in rural Nance County Oct. 12, 1916, to Joseph and Catherine (Czuba) Kula.
On Feb. 16, 1942, Ann married Joseph B. Tworek at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Krakow.
Survivors include her sons Jerry of Fremont and Jim (Nancy) of Genoa; daughters Phyllis (Gene) Urkoski of Clarks, Maxine (Richard) Urkoski of North Bend, Christine (Jim) Carlson of Silver Creek, Gaylene (Lee) Lovell of Parker, Colo.; 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren.
The funeral was July 22 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with burial at Valley View Cemetery, Genoa.

Martha M. (Viglicky) Kment, July 17, 2008, age 88
Martha M. Kment, 88 of Bellwood died July 17, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Schuyler. Funeral services were July 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Schuyler, with Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Burial was at Schuyler Cemetery
Martha was born March 26, 1920, in Columbus, to Joseph and Mary(Votova) Viglicky. She graduated from Schuyler High School. On April 25, 1940, she married Joseph T. Kment at St. Mary’s. They lived and farmed four miles south of Schuyler. Martha was a member of the church, St. Mary’s Ladies Guild, Butler County 4H leader and Extension club member, taught school near Octavia for two years and served as Treasurer on the Butler County School District 1 Board.
Martha is survived by sons Alden (Karen) Kment, Richard (Fran)Kment, Arnold (Amy) Kment, David Kment, all of Schuyler, Donald (Paula) Kment of Bellwood; daughters Marlene (Larry) Hartman, Irene (Mike) Starkey, all of Schuyler, Joann (Steve Loveless) Colfack of Rising City, Lorraine (Ray) Moore of Bellwood, Sally Roh of Schuyler; 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren,

Angela R. (Jurovsky) Kammerer, July 16, 2008, age 86
Angela Rose (Jirovsky) Kammerer, originally from the North Bend-Fremont area, died July 16, 2008, at Parker, Colo.

She was born on June 2, 1922, in Stanton, attended public schools in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School.
On June 4, 1941, married Carlyle Kammerer. They farmed for a short time in North Bend before he was drafted at the beginning of World War II. During the war they lived at various Army bases in California and Washington. After the war, they moved back to North Bend, where they continued farming until 1976 when they retired and moved to Fremont. Angela worked at Campbell’s Soup in Fremont for many years.
After her husband of 52 years passed away in 1993, she moved to Mesa, Ariz., to be closer to her sisters MaryAnn and Marcella.
In Nov. 2004, she moved to Victorian House in Parker to be closer to her immediate family.
She was a member of the North Bend Presbyterian Church and then later the Fremont Presbyterian Church and several church and social circles.
Survivors include sons, Carlyle Jr. (Mary) of Parker, Robert (Suellyn) of Alliance, Jerry (Pat) of Schuyler; four grandsons; two granddaughters, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson Ryan Brichacek.
Memorial Service was held on July 26 in Parker. Friends and relatives are invited to sign her guest book at www.denverpost.com or www.legacy.com.

Michael G. Odvody, July 12, 2008, age 52
Michael G. Odvody of Snyder died Saturday, July 12, as a result of a motorcycle accident on Highway 79 north of North Bend.

Michael was born Dec. 24, 1955, in Fremont. He grew up on a farm near Morse Bluff and attended District 14 School. He was also a 1974 graduate of North Bend Junior Senior High School and a graduate of Denver Motorcycle Institute.
He has lived in the area all his life, except for short periods in Colo. and Mont. He drove sprint cars for several years.
Michael is survived by his father and step-mother, George and Ann Odvody, of Granite, Colo. and sister, Susan (Andy) Cylke of El Cajon, Calif.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 17, at 3 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery. Rev. Fred Anderson will officiate. There is no visitation, however, friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff.

Vonda M. (Buchholtz) Dolezal, July 9, 2008, age 77
Vonda M. Dolezal of Morse Bluff died July 9, 2008, at Birchwood Manor.
Vonda was born Oct. 10, 1930, to Albert and Lilly (Butcher) Buchholtz of North Bend. She grew up in Winnebago, moving to Morse Bluff in 1941 and attending Morse Bluff schools.

On June 9, 1947, Vonda married Lawrence F. Dolezal in Wahoo. They lived on the Dolezal family farm southwest of Morse Bluff. Vonda managed the D&D Cafe located next to the Champlin gas station on Highway 30 in North Bend in the early 1970s.
Vonda was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness and attended Kingdom Hall in Fremont.
Survivors include sons Larry (Pam) Dolezal of Morse Bluff, Kenny (LaZelle) Dolezal of North Bend; daughters Lenice (Ken Jr.) Lowther, Deborah (Vince) Perry, all of Fremont, Carla Dolezal-Soukup of Nickerson; sisters Betty (Lumir) Bures of Clarkson, Dee Ann (Jim) Allender of Morse Bluff; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was July 12 at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend, with Mike Werner officiating. Burial was at Fleming Cemetery near Morse Bluff.

Clare (Gaughen) Gocken, June 30, 2008, age 96
Clare A. (Gaughen) Gocken, formerly of North Bend, died June 30 at her home at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.

Clare grew up in North Bend and was a 1929 graduate of NBHS.
On Sept. 12, 1931 Clare married Leonard Iske and the couple farmed in the Webster area for 46 years. Following Leonard’s death, Clare moved to Fremont and later married Marvin Gocken on Dec. 5, 1979. Marvin died in 2000.
She is survived by son Charles (Gorgene) Iske of North Bend; daughters Mary Jean (Martin) Paup of Seattle, Wash., Margaret Iske and Helen (Ken) Tallerico both of Sacramento, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held for Clare Saturday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. Rev. Ron Battiato will officiate. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 3, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, both at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. There will also be a visitation Saturday at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery.
Memorials are requested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dodge County Humane Society, and the North Bend Volunteer Fire Department.

Betty (Satorie) Argo, June 28, 2008, age 67
Betty Argo of Colorado died June 28, 2008, after a five year battle with multiple myeloma, cancer of the bone marrow.

Elizabeth Lou Satorie was born to Ted and Josephine (Tresnak) Satorie in the family farmhouse near North Bend on Nov. 4, 1941. She graduated from North Bend High School and attended the University of Nebraska.
Betty and Jim Argo were married in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in North Bend on New Year’s Eve in 1960. They spent most of their lives together in Colorado.
In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by five children: Jeff of Rochester, Mich.; Mark of Erie, Colo.; Chris of Boulder, Colo.; Joan of Bozeman, Mont.; Steve of Los Gatos, Calif. and their families. Surviving siblings are Dick and Don of North Bend, Tom of Lincoln; sister Ruth of Fremont, and their families.
A memorial service was held July 2 in Loveland, Colo. Betty’s obituary can be viewed online and guest book signed at www.allnutt.com.

Beverly C. Booze, June 28, 2008, age 70
Beverly C. Booze of North Bend died Saturday June 28 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Beverly was born June 11, 1938.
On Dec. 8, 1954, she was wed to Lawrence Booze. Having lived in Fremont and Cedar Bluffs previously, the couple resided in North Bend for the past five years.
She is survived by her husband, sons Jeffrey (Mari) Booze of Prague and Keith Booze of Fremont, daughters Susie (Tom) Townsend of Fremont and Nancy (Randy) Silvey of Craig, brother Ron (Linda) Kincanon of Fremont, sister Patricia Sinnett of Valley, 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held July 2 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and was officiated by Rev. Scott Jensen. A private burial was held at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Raymond E. Strauss, June 20, 2008, age 74
Ray Strauss
Raymond E. “Ray” Strauss of North Bend and formerly Lincoln, died June 20, 2008, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Ray was born in McCool Junction, on Oct. 9, 1933, and was raised in Cordon, Ind. He entered the Army at the age of 16 and served during the Korean War from March 20, 1951 to April 28, 1955. After his time in the Army, he moved to Lincoln and started work for Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph, retiring after 41 years. Ray came to North Bend in 2004.
On July 1, 1960, Ray was wed to Nancy J. Dygert in Thayer.
Ray was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years, was a former member of the York American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps and was a current member of the Morse Bluff American Legion Post 340 as well as North Bend VFW Post 8223 and North Bend AM Vets Post 20.
He was also a member of the North Bend Masonic Lodge, St. Charles Catholic Church and North Bend Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include wife Nancy Strauss of North Bend; sons Steve (Susan) Strauss of Omaha, Pat (Kathy) Strauss of Bozeman, Mont.; sisters Barbara Cudaback of Sterling, Karolyn Turner and Sandra (Wayne) Hurd of Lincoln; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral was held June 24 in North Bend at St. Charles Catholic Church with Revs. Donald Cleary and James Dawson officiating. Military graveside services conducted at Woodland Cemetery.
Francis E. Tomek, June 19, 2008, age 72
Francis E. Tomek of Prague died June 19, 2008 in Lincoln. Services were held June 23 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague with Rev. Homes officiating. Committal was held at St. John’s Cemetery in Prague with military honors.
Francis was born June 5, 1936, to Frank and Elsie (Roh) Tomek and graduated from Prague High School. He served in the United States Navy for 20 years and was a member of the Prague Legion and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans of Lincoln.
Francis was employed by the United States Postal Service for 10 years and recently retired from owning and operating TOM TOMS Bar and Grill in Dwight for 16 years.
He is survived by sister, Marlene Dailey and nephew, Greg (Lisa) Dailey of Lincoln, as well as uncles, aunts, cousins, and a great-neice and -nephew.
Emily (Walla) Dunker, June 15, 2008, age 100

Emily W. Dunker of Fremont died June 15, 2008, at Edgewood Vista in Fremont.
Emily was born Jan. 19, 1908, to James and Mary (Beranek) Walla in North Bend. She was a 1924 graduate of North Bend High School.
On March 18, 1928, Emily married Harold W. Dunker at the Purple Cane parsonage northwest of North Bend. The couple moved to Omaha where Emily was employed at the Brandise store. Harold died June 14, 1961.
Emily married Alvin Dunker on April 6, 1963, in Omaha. They moved to Tonganoxie, Kan., and later Lansing, Kan. Alvin died Sept. 25, 1991. Emily moved to Fremont in 1992, where she was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont.
Survivors include sons Harold (Dolores) Dunker of Fremont, Keith (Dorothy) Dunker of Benton, Ky.; step-sons Verlin (Millie) Dunker of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Bill Dunker of Sarasota, Fla.; step-son-in-law Joe Gastl of Shawnee, Kan.; sister Nadine Ristau (Mel) Haynes of Fremont; nine grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren.
The funeral was June 20 at Salem Lutheran Church with Rev. Delvin Hutton and Sandy Terry officiating. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend.

Leona (Ruzicka) Walla, May 24, 2008, age 101
Leona (Ruzicka) Walla of North Bend, died May 24, 2008, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday May 29, at First United Methodist Church in North Bend. Committal was at Woodland Cemetery, North Bend.
Leona was born April 26, 1907, and grew up on a farm northwest of North Bend. She was a 1925 graduate of North Bend High School.
After her marriage to Willis “Bill” Walla on Aug. 2, 1932, she lived on a farm north of North Bend until moving to town in 1974. She had been residing at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont since June of 2000.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the church’s womens society, Ruth Chapter 119 Order of Eastern Star and the Rebecca Lodge, all of North Bend. Leona was also a member of Goldenrod Garden Club, Maple Grove Extension Club and Western Fraternal Lodge of Morse Bluff.
Leona was preceeded in death by her parents Emil W. and Dena (Belik) Ruzicka, husband Willis Walla, brothers Alvin and Emil Ruzicka, and a daughter, Mary Heese.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Donna (Mrs. Vernon) Bloemker of Washington, Pa. and Charlene (Mrs. Charles) Greene of Arcadia, Calif, son-in-law Norman Heese of Scribner, Ne., eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Joe R. Kuncl, May 21, 2008, age 81
Joe R. Kuncl of Prague, died May 21, 2008, at Bryan LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.
Funeral services were May 24 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Prague with Rev. Jamie Hottovy officiating. Committal was at St. John’s Cemetery in Prague.
Joe was born June 26, 1926, on the family farm near Prague, Nebraska, to Anton and Rose (Vavak) Kuncl.
He graduated from Prague High School and joined the Navy. Following his military service, Joe was a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs for 10 years.
On Sept. 29, 1956, he married Darline Lorenc at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Linwood. They farmed west of Prague and Joe worked for the Soil Conservation Service for 30 years. During that time he also played baseball in AAA for Des Moines and Yankton, the Pioneer Night League and ended his baseball career with West Point in the Dodge County League. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Prague and the Prague American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Darline of Prague; daughters Theresa (Gary) Musilek of Malmo, Annie (Dan) Havlovic of Prague; brother Cy Kuncl of Lincoln; sister, Vicki (Carl) Nelson of Wahoo; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.

John Murville Mundy, April 27, 2008, age 82
John Murville Mundy of Santa Clara, Calif., died April 27, 2008.
John was born June 6, 1925, in North Bend to Dan and Eva (Rexroth) Mundy. He was raised by his grandparents, Peter and Anis Munday. John joined the Navy after graduating from North Bend High School in 1942. After discharge from the military, he remained in California, working for Armour Foods for 36 years.
Survivors include his wife Joyce, son Donald, daughters Carol, Lynn and Katie, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of California; cousins James Kruger of Omaha, Evelyn Farris of North Bend.
