North Bend makes dream reality for mechanic

Jaime Weinrich had a dream of owning his own business. North Bend has given him the opportunity to do just that. Weinrich is renting the shop of the Conoco station owned by Mike Hunke, calling it J&J Auto.

Weinrich and his wife, also named Jamie, opened up for business June 15. Weinrich will continue to work at his job in Fremont, moving over to North Bend full time August 1. Presently Tim Obershaw is at the shop full-time with Weinrich there in the evenings and Saturdays.

Weinrich, 29, grew up in the West Point area. After high school he started working as a mechanic and has received Automotive Service Excellence (ASC) certification in engine repair, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical and electronic systems, heating and air conditioning and engine performance.

In 2003 he attended University of Toyota and GMC training schools to receive their certifications. Obershaw, 30, is from the Rogers area and is also ASC certified.

Weinrich has worked 12 years as a mechanic in West Point, Kansas and the last four years at Blackburn Gas and Wash in Fremont.

At this time, he and his family are living in Fremont. They have two daughters, Kayla, 12, and Alexus, 6, and are expecting another in November. His wife just obtained her certification as a medication aide and plans to work in the nursing field after the baby is born. For now, she is helping her husband get the business going.

“It was Jaime’s lifelong dream to own his own business,” Jamie said, “so here we are.”

To ease the confusion, the Jamies tried adding their middle names, but that did not catch on. If in question, they refer to each other as Jaime-boy and Jamie-girl.

The store will be open from 8 a.m. To 7 p.m. Monday through Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

J&J Auto had their grand opening June 25 and have been pleased with the reception from the North Bend and area communities.

“The community is super nice,” Jamie said. “If they are just stopping to get gas they will come in and ask what J&J Auto is and welcome us to the neighborhood.”
