Just two weeks after receiving a challenge grant from Don and Diane Soukup and LeMoyne and Darlene (Soukup) Johnson and one week after it was published in the North Bend Eagle, more than half of the challenge money has been raised. The Soukups/Johnsons challenged the community to raise $40,000 with a pledge to match each dollar raised with two dollars, to a total of $80,000.

As of Monday [Dec. 27, 2010] at press time there has been a total of $29,297.34 received or pledged toward the $40,000 Soukup challenge.

“We know that the last dollars needed are the hardest to raise,” Pat Beebe said. Beebe has been serving on the fund-raising committee of the North Bend Library Foundation. “We appreciate the generosity of those who have donated for the first time or added to their donations. We hope others will take advantage of this benevolent offer from the Soukup-Johnson family to make each dollar worth three. Every donation is certainly appreciated.”

Tax deductible donations can be made to the Library Fund through the North Bend Library Foundation, P.O. Box 56, North Bend, NE 68649.
