North Bend Central won the District B-4 play production contest Thursday and will compete in the state contest Friday.

This will mark NBC’s first trip to state one acts since 2002.

“This is such a talented and enjoyable group of kids,” director Katie Mann said. “They give 110 percent at every practice and performance. It’s truly been an honor being able to coach them.”

Senior Zander Gibney plays one of the leads and was one of four students recognized for outstanding acting in the district competition, along with Harley Cave, Bethany Wiebold and Andrew Hall.

“Doing one-act for the past four years has been such an amazing and fun experience,” Gibney said. “It’s sad to see everything draw to a close, but this has been a great note to end things on.”

Like the East Husker Conference competition, NBC beat out runner-up West Point-Beemer for the district title, 172-169. The three judges rated NBC first, first and fourth. One judge gave North Bend a perfect score of 60.

“I will never forget the kids’ reactions when they announced North Bend Central as the district champions,” Mann said.

NBC’s state performance will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Johnny Carson Theater at Norfolk High School.
