Churches set Easter scheudles

Area churches will be holding special services for the Easter season. Easter is the most important and oldest festival of the Christian Church, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and held (in the Western church) between March 21 and April 25, on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the northern spring equinox. Maundy Thursday is the name given to the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples, known as the Last Supper.

Ames Community Church will have an Easter breakfast April 1 at 9 a.m. followed by worship service.

St. Peter Lutheran Church will have a Maundy Thursday service March 29 at 7 p.m. with communion. Good Friday, March 30, service will be at 7 p.m. On March 31 there will be an Easter vigil with communion at 7 p.m. Easter service with communion will be at 7 a.m. Sunday followed by breakfast served by the Youth Group.

At the United Presbyterian Church Maundy Thursday will be at 7 p.m. with communion served. On Good Friday, there will be a 7 p.m. service. Easter “Sonrise” Service will be held at 6:45 a.m. led by the Sr. High Youth Group at Drew and Mariann von Rein’s home, one mile north of North Bend on Highway 79. Following the service, breakfast will be served at the church. If it is raining or snowing, the service will be held at the church. The Easter Sunday Service will be at 10 a.m. at the church.

St. John’s Ridgeley Lutheran Church will hold 7 p.m. Good Friday service and Easter Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast following.

St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church will hold Holy Thursday Mass at 8 p.m. On Good Friday there will be Liturgy at 7:30 p.m. Holy Saturday Mass will be at 8:15 p.m. Mass on Easter Sunday will begin at 8:15 a.m.

St. Leo Catholic Church in Snyder will have Holy Thursday Mass at 6 p.m. and Good Friday Liturgy at 6 p.m. Easter Sunday Mass will begin at 10:15 a.m.

St. George Catholic Church will have on Good Friday morning prayer 8 a.m. at and at 7 p.m. there is Liturgy of Lord’s Passion. On Holy Saturday after sunset (8:30 p.m.) there will be an Easter Vigil Mass. Easter Sunday mass is at 10 a.m.

At Sacred Heart Catholic Church there will be the Holy Thursday Mass at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart, Cedar Hill. From 8 p.m. to midnight there will be adoration with confessions. On Good Friday at 3 p.m. there will be Divine Mercy Chaplet and stations. On Holy Saturday morning prayer will be at 8 a.m. at Sacred Heart. Easter Sunday mass is at 8 a.m.
