Water projects approvedby Nathan Arneal Councilman Chuck Krenzer made a motion to proceed with an ice pigging project next year at the July 16 council meeting. Ice pigging is a method of cleaning water mains by forcing slushy ice through the pipes. A few weeks ago he visited Fremont to see the process in action. By signing an agreement with the company, North Bend will be get a slot on the schedule for next year. The council agreed it wanted to move forward with the ice pigging, and city clerk Theresa Busse said she already had it in the budget for next year. As soon as the contract is signed, Krenzer said, PeopleService will begin exercising valves in North Bend’s water system to make sure they are in working order for the pigging process. Councilman Bart Bosco said PeopleService should be exercising the valves whether the city is ice pigging or not. The city also accepted a bid from Johnson Services to send a video camera through the water mains to inspect for damage. A small portion of the city has already been done. The city had planned to do a section of town at a time, but with the work needing to be done before a new sewer plant is built, the city decided to do the rest of the videoing in one shot.
