Sewer plant, lagoon move northby Nathan Arneal The location for the new sewer plant and lagoon to be built east of North Bend has moved back to the north side of Platte River Road, near the current sewer plant. The original plan was to build the plant on the south side of the road and the railroad tracks. Councilman Chuck Krenzer, chairman of the city’s water and sewer department, said working with the railroad would have added a year and a half or more to the project. With the change, JEO Engineering is adding a fee of $70,500 for additional surveys, and adjustments to the design. Krenzer said he called JEO expressing displeasure with the high price tag. Councilman Alex Legge said as a taxpayer in North Bend, he appreciated Krenzer’s calling and sticking up for the city’s dollars, but he said it likely would have cost more than $70,000 to build a crossing over the tracks. The council reluctantly agreed to approve the additional fees. In other council business: • Ordinance 607, setting a schedule for raising sewer and water rates (as detailed in the Sept. 10 Eagle) every six months for 2.5 years, received its third and final reading and was passed. • The city bought back the north half of the empty block at 10th and Cottonwood north of the water tower. There was a provision in the sale agreement a few years ago that if the family did not build on the lots within 5 years that the property would be sold back to the city. The family decided not to build and therefore returned the land to the city. Read the full story in the print or e-edition. <<Back to the front page |
