Board discusses establishing Hall of Fameby Mary Le Arneal The North Bend Central Board of Education met Sept. 4 and began its meeting discussing the budget as printed in the North Bend Eagle Sept. 3 issue, page 12. In summary it was noted that the tax asking was up 2.4%, the tax levy asking was down 4.5% and the valuation was up 7%. Since 2020-2021 the valuation has risen 34%, the levy has decreased 29% and the tax asking had decreased 4.9% Activities director Jon Baehr and NBC public relations staffer Whitney Armstrong presented to the board the possibility of creating a NBC Hall of Fame and a display of students who earned a White Tiger at NBC. The Hall of Fame would recognize the contributions and lasting impact of alumni, teachers, coaches, teams and groups, while at NBC. There would be a special selection process and they would be honored at the holiday tournament. The White Tiger began in 1978 and is awarded to students playing three sports for four years and lettering in three times in each. These students would be honored on special board listing at the school. After discussion, the board tabled the topic with more information needed. Superintendent Patrick Ningen reported that 12 companies attended the pre-bid conference for replacing the gym roof. Bids will be opened at a special meeting Sept. 15 at the school. In the activities report Baehr said there are 37 boys out for football, nine girls and 10 boys out for cross country, 20 for volleyball, 13 for softball, 20 for junior high football and 24 for junior high volleyball. On Hi-5 Fridays high school students visit the elementary with the younger Tigers walking through a tunnel made by the high school Tigers and giving everyone a high five. The board discussed a new restroom and concession stand for the football field. This was an item that the public requested in the public surveys collected.
