Veterans Park needs you

Much of the North Bend Morse Bluff Area Veterans park was redone after the 2019 flood and parts again in 2023. Weeds have now taken over, hiding the beauty of the park.

The Veterans Park that was built with support from AmVets Post 20, VFW Post 8223 and American Legion Post 340 and dedicated in 2005, still stands today. Many of the veterans who had the vision and built the park are no longer with us or no longer able to physically care for the park as they wanted it to be cared for so it would be a highlight of our community.

Weeds have taken over all the planting beds, including the south bed that was planted in 2023. The plants planted at that time are still there, but so are the weeds surrounding them.

A number of area lawn services have fertilized, taken care of the irrigation system and done chemical care for the lawn and flower beds. Some have donated their time, some have billed the park.

Mike Elofson is now chairman of the Veterans Park committee. He plans a meeting of the park committee Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. at the VFW Hall.
Elofson is making an appeal to able veterans and the public to bring garden tools and pickups and help clean out the park.

Youth, or anyone, needing community service hours are invited to come.

The park committee is looking at other options for permanent care of the park and welcomes suggestions and volunteers.
