William (Bill) D. Ladehoff passed away Sunday, Dec 14, 2014, in Kearney. He was born Aug. 11, 1940, in North Bend to Landers and Para Ladehoff and was raised on the family farm. Bill was a Navy veteran and served part of his time in Adak, Alaska. He was a member of the Oberlin American Legion Post 70. Bill was involved in the transportation industry and was the western United States operations manager for Ruan Leasing for many years.
He and his wife Judy moved to Oberlin, Kansas, in 1999 to retire. Bill was a western antique collector and loved attending western shows and auctions. He loved animals, and he and Judy rescued many dogs and cats over the years. Bill especially enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his faithful pets.
He was a member of the Oberlin Covenant Church.
Survivors include his wife Judy of Oberlin; daughters and son-in-law Sheri (Tony) Spivey of Denver, Colo., Leslie (Rodney) Steggs of Aurora, Colo, Marien (Steve) Marchi of Winchester, Calif., Heidi (Ron) Leonard of Lakewood, Colo., Kristie (Charlie) Dischler of Ardada, Colo., Jodie (Tim) Ganahl of Phoenix, Ariz., Andrea (Tom) Gann of Thornton, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Thomas Ladehoff of Fremont and Robert Ladehoff of Peoria, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.

Richard R. Kavan of Morse Bluff passed away Dec. 12 at his home. Richard was born Dec. 25, 1926, in Morse Bluff to Joseph and Tillie (Mach) Kavan. He served in the US Army during WWII from Feb. 22, 1946, to May 2, 1947. Richard married Dorothy Wesely on Jan. 10, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cedar Hill.
Richard was a surveyor, farmer and livestock producer who loved to help family, friends and neighbors. He was a “jack of all trades.” He also worked on the construction of Highway 79.
Richard was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cedar Hill and a member of American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughter Diane (Dan) Kortum of Cedar Bluffs; brothers Joie and Ruben Kavan both of Morse Bluff and Lester (Marlene) Kavan of Des Moines, IA; sisters Maxine (Bernard) Kratky of Prague, Joan Kavan of Wahoo; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren with two more on the way; sisters-in-law Mildred (Arsene) Fauquet, Bette (Roger) Hinrichs, all of Lincoln.
Funeral Mass was Dec. 16 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cedar Hill officiated by the Rev. Jeremy Hazuka.
Memorials are suggested to Morse Bluff Volunteer Fire Department, Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Morse Bluff / North Bend Veterans Memorial Park.
Burial was at the Fleming Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by VFW Post 8223, AMVETS Post 20 of North Bend and American Legion Post 340.

Lester L. Vavak of Prague passed away Dec. 3. He was born on August 18, 1926, to Peter M. and Anna (Liska) Vavak.
He is survived by wife Dorothy (Polacek) Vavak of Prague; children and their spouses Ellen (Hargus) (Randy) Lieber of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Deanna (Leslie D.) Vavak of Elkhorn, Deanna Vavak of Ashland, Kristin (Donald) Hilgenkamp of Lincoln, Diane (Tim) Vavak of Rockwell City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Lester was a recipient of the Bronze Star for his service in WWII. He was a lifelong resident of Prague. He was a past member of the Prague ambulance squad, the Prague VFW and Prague fire department.
Services will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be given in care of Prague Fire and Rescue

Emily Sabata of Bruno died Nov. 29 at Fremont Health Medical Center.
Emily was born on the family farm northeast of Prague on Aug. 20, 1924, to John O. and Emma (Kavan) Ladenburger. She attended school at District 92 and Prague Catholic Grade School and graduated in 1942 from Prague High School. She attended Creighton University in Omaha, Midland College in Fremont and Kennedy College in Wahoo. She also attended numerous night classes and correspondence courses to receive a General Elementary Teacher’s Certificate. She taught for 17 years at one-room country elementary schools, including Districts 92, 78, 86, 12 and 51, all in Saunders County.
Emily married Joseph C. Tomek on Aug. 23, 1965, in Prague. He died in 1976. On May 15, 1990, Emily married Frank A. Sabata in Plasi. He died June 19, 2014. She lived on the family farm from the time of her birth until 2002 when she and her husband Frank moved into Bruno.
Emily was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s Altar Society in Bruno, former member of St. John’s Catholic Church and St. John’s Altar Society in Prague.
She is survived by her sister Nadine Racek of Morse Bluff; brother John (Peggy) Ladenburger Jr. of Bettendorf, Iowa; stepsons Frank J. Sabata of Bruno, Ed (Cindy) Sabata of Brainard; stepdaughter Sharon (Ron) Mueller of Ames; nieces Jerrine Racek of Morse Bluff, Jacki (Steve) Florentius of Ramsey, Minn., Stephanie (Sam) Larson of Pittsburgh, Penn.; nephew Alex (Indira) Ladenburger of LeClaire, Iowa; beloved cousin Claire (Roger) Bachofer of Golden, Colo.; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
Funeral mass was Dec. 6 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at Bruno with the Rev. Father Ron Homes officiating. Visitation with the family present will be Friday, December 5, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bruno. Gloria M. Parr of Fremont, died Nov. 22 at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont. Gloria was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Scribner to Otto and Frieda (Heyden) Muller. She grew up in Scribner and was a graduate of Scribner High School.
Gloria married Sylvester “Vess” B. Parr on Sept. 9, 1943, in Dodge. The couple farmed near Dodge and then near North Bend from 1963 to 1980, when they moved into North Bend. Gloria worked at Birchwood Manor in North Bend for six years and operated a day care in her home for 23 years. They moved to Fremont in 1997. Sylvester died on July 24, 2011.
Gloria was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont and of the Christian Mothers. She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church at Dodge, St. Charles Catholic Church at North Bend and the St. Anne’s Altar Society.
Gloria is survived by sons Richard Parr, Rodney Parr; daughters Sandra (Bob) Chromy, Wanda (Terry) Rucker, all of Fremont, and Carmen Kugler of Morse Bluff; brother Merle (Mary Ann) Muller of Omaha; sisters Rodella Kirby of Dumas, Texas, and Bernetta Sellmeyer of Fremont; 11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Wilbur, Lowell, Darwin, Robert, Devern and Larry Muller; sister Elvira Schultz; daughter-in-law Peggy Parr; grandson Robert Chromy; and granddaughter Tonya Chromy.
The funeral mass is 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Father Benjamin Boyd will officiate. Bernice Anne “Bing” (Chromy) Blatny, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 18. She was born on June 6, 1943, to Joseph and Alice (Nesladek) Chromy in North Bend, where she grew up.
Bing later lived in Fairbury and Lincoln. She was married to Dr. Richard Blatny from 1967 to 1987 and to this union five children were born.
Bing’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, attending every special event or milestone within reach and had a special way of making each of her 14 grandchildren feel like they were her favorite.
Bing is survived by her children, Angie Boohar of Overland Park, KS, Dr. Rick (Darcy) Blatny of Fairbury, Pamela (Doug) Hund of Spring, Texas, Paige (Eric) Dragoo of Frisco, Texas, and Brooke (Scott) Nelson of Lincoln, grandchildren Reed, Erika and Wade Boohar, Josephine, Rorik and Adeline Blatny, Avary, Audrey and Addison Hund, Gage and Isabella Dragoo, and Eve, Jules and Van Nelson; siblings Janice (Scott) Boyd of Waverly, Margaret Nelson of Blair, Ken (Kathy) Chromy of Ohiowa.

Garry L. Tomasek, aged 49 years, of Fremont, formerly of North Bend, died Nov. 14 at his home. Garry was born Sept. 14, 1965, in Fremont to Leland and Jeannette (Renter) Tomasek.
He grew up in North Bend and was a 1984 graduate of North Bend Central High School and a graduate of Wayne State College in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in business and administration. Garry served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, and then served in the Air Force Reserve 28 MSES and the Iowa Air National Guard for over 20 years of combined service. He was employed at Cargill Inc. in Blair since 1998. Garry married Nicole Benjamin on Dec. 8, 2001. They later divorced.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont and was a Sunday School Teacher. Garry started a program at the church called the Resurrection Project. He was a Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 104 of Fremont and a former EMT for the Milford Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by son Garrett Tomasek of Fremont; mother Jeannette Tank of Fremont; sister Jeannie (Ron) Marquardt of Arlington; brother Steven (Billy Jo) Tomasek of Hampton; nieces and nephews Tyler, Randi, Lane, Hannah and Cole.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral service was Nov. 20 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Michael Knudsen officiating. Burial was at Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff with military honors by members of American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff, V.F.W. Post 8223 and Am Vets Post 20 of North Bend.
Memorials may be given to the family for a trust to be set up for Garry’s son’s education.

Annetta Faye (Wages) Treat, from Charleston, Arkansas, passed away Nov. 12, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. Burial was at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sgt.Maj. James H. Treat.
Annetta was born Oct. 1, 1935, to Charles and Ama Wages in Oark, Ark. She was a homemaker and member of Lighthouse of the World Tabernacle.

Helen Settles of North Bend, formerly of Scribner, died Nov. 11 at her home.
She was born in rural Morse Bluff on Dec. 1, 1924, to Joseph L. and Tillie (Mach) Kavan.
She grew up near Morse Bluff and moved to Omaha in 1944, where she worked as an operator for the local telephone company and then made shell casings during WWII at Omaha Steel.
Helen married Donn C. Settles on Aug. 7, 1946, in Cedar Bluffs. They farmed north of Colon until 1952 when they moved to a farm south of Scribner. Helen farmed side by side with her husband including doing custom farm work. They moved to North Bend in 2008. Donn died Oct. 19, 2010.
Helen was custodian at District 12 for several years. She was a homemaker and a 4-H leader for 30 years. She was a “Piece Maker” at St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Bend.
Helen is survived by sons Jerome (Joan) Settles of Hoskins, Alan (Cindy) Settles of Scribner, Ronn (Jana) Settles of Raymond; daughter Janet (Ron) Schindler of North Bend; brothers Joie Kavan, Richard (Dorothy) Kavan, Ruben Kavan, all of Morse Bluff, Lester (Marlene) Kavan of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters, Maxine (Bernard) Kratky of Prague, Joan Kavan of Wahoo; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Carol A. Vyhlidal of North Bend was found Nov. 8 at her home in North Bend. Carol was born Feb. 20, 1955, in Fremont to Emil J. and Hattie (Fencl) Vyhlidal.
Carol lived her entire life in North Bend, attending grade school and graduating from North Bend Central High School in 1975. She spent many years working in health care facilities in the surrounding areas, most recently at Birchwood Manor. Carol cared for her step-mother Beatrice for many years.
Carol was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.
She is survived by her twin brother Daryl (Cindy) Vyhlidal, brothers Ron (Diane) Vyhlidal and Rich (Dianne) Vyhlidal, all of Fremont, Jerry (Susan) Vyhlidal of Columbus; sister Marilyn (Pat) Parolek of Lincoln; sister-in-law Marie Vyhlidal of Lawton, Okla.; nieces Angie Chale, Brigette Willis, April Hampl, Tiffany Swanson, Stephanie Vyhlidal, and Mary Von Seggern; nephews Terry Vyhlidal, Michael Vyhlidal, Chad Vyhlidal, Jason Vyhlidal, Jeremy Parolek, Matthew Parolek, Paul Von Seggern, Aaron Von Seggern, and Derek Vyhlidal; eleven great-nieces and eight great-nephews; several aunts and numerous cousins.

Kathleen Joan “Kathy Jo” LeGrande of Blair passed away Nov. 1, 2014, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Kathy was born July 9, 1952, in Fremont to Wayne and Ruby (Roumph) LeGrande. She grew up in North Bend and was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend. In 1973 Kathy moved to Blair where she worked for ENCORE. She was a member at First Lutheran Church in Blair.
Kathy is survived by her stepmother, Helen LeGrande of Fremont; brothers Harold (Eileen) LeGrande of Lincoln, Gary (Jane) LeGrande of Fremont, Dennis LeGrande of Schuyler; sisters Donna Bone of Lincoln, Janice (Clyde) Wilkie of Fremont, Sharon (Don) Sawtelle of Fremont and Patricia Moeller of Hooper.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Pastor Pam Ciulla of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Roger Holub of rural Scribner died October 17 at his home.
Funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, with Reverend An Duy Phan as celebrant. A memorial has been established.
Roger Andrew Holub was born July 17, 1963, in West Point to J. Andrew and Agatha (Venteicher) Holub. He grew up on the family farm south of Dodge, attended St. Wenceslaus elementary school, and graduated from Dodge High School in 1982. On September 14, 1985, Roger married Renee Kampschnieder at St. Richards Catholic Church in Omaha. The couple farmed near Scribner, and Roger was a member of St. Charles Catholic church in North Bend. He loved boating, his dog ‘Border’, and enjoyed working on motors. Roger was diagnosed with brain cancer in September 2011 and had a reoccurrence in May 2014.
Roger is survived by his wife Renee of Scribner; daughters Maggie Holub of Valley and Amanda Holub and fiancé Matt Johnson of Scribner; parents Andy and Agatha Holub of Clarkson; sisters Doris (Ken) Tomasek of Dodge and Jean (Tom) Teply of Clarkson; brother Mark (Terri) Holub of Scribner; and mother-in-law Marion Bukosky of Omaha.

Joyce M. Cerv Kucera of Columbus passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Oct. 8. Joyce was born in Wahoo in 1931 to Henrietta and Henry Cerv and spent her childhood in Weston and then North Bend. She also lived in Greeley, Colo., and most recently she resided in Columbus.
Joyce is survived by her children: Greg Kucera of Arvada, Colo., Gwen Jones of Bellevue, Randy Kucera of Lincoln; Becky Hamilton of Omaha, Lindsay Kucera of Lincoln, Rachelle Kucera Mehra of Torrington, Conn., Tami Prince of Seattle, Wash.; sons-in-law: Stan Jones, Dan Hamilton and Achal Mehra, John Prince; daughters-in-law: Kathy Kucera and Lana Kucera; brother Bob Cerv; sister Bonnie Nelson; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Wilma E. Dunker of North Bend died Oct. 7 at Nye Pointe in Fremont. Wilma was born May 9, 1924, in Howells to John and Catherine (Wegener) Widhelm. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School at Howells. The family moved to Clyde, northwest of North Bend, in 1944
Wilma married Roy Dunker on Sept. 2, 1947, in Olean. They farmed until Roy retired in 1981, moving to North Bend in July 1989. Roy died Jan. 18, 1990.
Wilma was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, where she taught CCD and was a member of St. Anne’s Altar Society. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary of Post 8223 at North Bend and the Birthday Card Club.
Wilma is survived by son Richard (Janet) Dunker of North Bend; daughters Jeanne (Robert) Dahlheim of North Bend, Patricia (William) Taylor of Ames, Carol (David) Limbach of North Bend, Gloria Vosler of Morse Bluff, Diane (Alan) Sindelar of North Bend; brother Joe (Helen) Widhelm of Fremont; 27 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

Orville was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Loretto to Elmer and Elise “Lizzy” (Loseke) Busse.He
graduated from Leigh High School in 1951. On March 25, 1956, he married Doris Sousek in Clarkson. They lived in Leigh, moved to North Bend and later to Columbus. While in Leigh, Orville worked for Hanel Oil and then decided to become a truck driver.  He drove for Leigh Shipping, McMullin Transfer and was part owner in the Corner Bar. While in North Bend he drove for Legband Transfer.  He then drove over 24 years for Behlen Manufacturing. He was recipient of the Nebraska Driver of the Month, Presidents Safe Driving Award and BMC Driver of the year.  
Orville is survived by his wife, Doris Busse of Columbus; sons Bruce (Theresa) Busse of North Bend, Kevin (Lori) Busse, Rick Busse, of Columbus; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters Ceola Sedlacek of Leigh, Georgia (Jack) Larson of Norfolk.

Charlotte L. Narak of Fremont, formerly of North Bend, died Sept. 17, 2014, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Charlotte was born Jan. 6, 1921, in West Point to Oscar and Lillie (Bergbon) Carlson. She grew up in West Point and later lived in the Oakland-Craig area and graduated from Craig High School.
Charlotte lived in Omaha for many years before moving to North Bend in 1991. She worked for Bemis Bag Company in Omaha for over 20 years and also for Campbell’s Soup Company in Omaha.
Charlotte is survived by son, Rich Narak of Omaha; grandsons Steve and wife, Karri Narak of Papillion, Mike Narak of LaVista and Jim Narak of Omaha; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son Ralph; and brothers Grover and Bill.
A funeral service was Sept. 27 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, the Rev. Leland Foreman officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Oakland.

Fred Junior Hasemann of Scribner died Sept. 18 at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner
Junior was born Jan. 5, 1923, in rural Scribner to Fred and Minnie (Wooldrik) Hasemann. He was baptized Feb. 4, 1923, and confirmed on Aug. 1, 1936, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Cuming County Line.
Junior married Gladys Furstenau on Feb. 4, 1945, at United Lutheran Church in Scribner. After his marriage he joined the military and served for a short time before being medically discharged. He returned home and began his farming career on a farm northeast of Scribner. Junior served 15 years on the District 83 school board.
The couple moved into the Elkhorn Valley Villa in January of 2011. Gladys died Dec. 13, 2011. Junior remained at the Villa until moving into the Scribner Good Samaritan Center in January of this year.
He is survived by his children Lisa (John) Stockamp, Keith (Connie) Hasemann, Carroll (Mary) Hasemann, Kevin (Diane) Hasemann, all of Scribner; Kenneth (Sandy) Hasemann of North Bend; 20 grandchildren;
27 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Norma Jean Marquardt of California

Kathleen Elizabeth Houlihan died Sept. 12 at Brookestone Meadow in Elkhorn.
Kay was born Nov. 1, 1920, to Dr. Henry Clay and Mabel Delly, growing up in Emery, S.D.
She attended business school in Omaha then joined the Navy WAVEs during World War II and later joined the F.B.I.
Kay married C. Martin (Mart) Houlihan on August 18, 1951. They celebrated 60 years of marriage. Mart died March 18, 2012.
She is survived by her children Fr. Michael K. Houlihan of Hastings, Carol (Roberto Orihuela) Houlihan Brown of Greesboro, N.C., Margie (Paul) Emanuel of North Bend, Tim (Bea) Houlihan of Annadale, N.J., Janie (Peter) Obradovich of Omaha and Amy Houlihan of Gretna; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings Norma Beri of Lakewook, Colo., Walter Thomas Delly of Omaha and Richard Delly of Silverspring, Md.
A memorial service will be Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sept. 29 at the John A. Gentleman Mortuaries Chapel at 1010 N. 72nd Street at 4 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m.

Margaret Kay Allen of North Bend died Sept. 11 at her home. Kay was born Jan. 24, 1961, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to John and Donna (Ungland) Heflin.
Kay lived in Ohio until the age of 13. She then lived in Texas and Arizona until 2006 when she moved to North Bend. She was a homemaker. She married Peter Allen in Phoenix, Ariz., on Dec. 13, 1986.
Kay is survived by her husband, Peter; son Cory (fiancé, Samantha Ligon) Allen of Wahoo; daughters Angelique Marie Allen of Omaha, Brittany Nichole Allen, North Bend; mother Donna Heflin of Ripley, Ohio; brothers Johnny Heflin, Duane Heflin of Ripley; sisters Charlene (Edward) Stone of Maysville, Ky., Connie Heflin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Carol Boardsman of Florida, Cindy Gibson of California; and grandson Corey John Allen of Wahoo.
She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.
There will be private family services at a later date.

Dionne Isabella Striplin died Aug. 12 at her home in Elkhorn. She was born Sept. 12, 2010.
She is survived by parents LaRon and Mallory Striplin of Elkhorn; brother DeShawn; grandparents Jeanene Lambley of North Bend, Mike and Barb Limbach of Fremont and Larry and Maxine Striplin of Marin City, Calif; great-grandparents Glenn and Jeanene Westerman of North Bend; aunts and uncles LaKiya Striplin of Marin City, Calif., Daniel and Kessa Early of Novado, Califl, Aaron Limbach of North Bend, Trevor and Shelby Limbach of Fremont.
The funeral was Aug. 16 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn. Interment was at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn.

James “Larry” Phillips of Omaha, formerly of North Bend, died Aug. 5 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha. Larry was born May 18, 1942, in Scottsbluff to James and Julia (Ustohal) Phillips. He lived in Scottsbluff and Curtis for a short time before moving to North Bend.
Larry was a 1960 graduate of North Bend High School. He married Margaret R. “Peg” Wernsman on Oct. 14, 1967, in Prague. Larry served in the Nebraska National Guard from 1964 to 1970.
Larry owned and operated Jim’s Used Car Market in North Bend and also was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service until retiring in 2000.
Larry and Peg wintered in Texas for several years and then moved to Omaha in June 2013. Peg died on Nov. 18, 2013.
Larry was a member of the American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff and former member of the North Bend Chamber of Commerce. He attended St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend.
He is survived by daughters Pamela Phillips of Omaha, Amy (Bob) Robles of Omaha; sister Nancy (Mike) Goddard of LaVista; brother-in-law Robert Wernsman Jr. of Lubbock, Texas; sisters-in-law JoAnn (Dick) Alback, Tracy Wernsman, Beth (Matt) Holland, all of Omaha; one granddaughter, Amanda (Thomas) Koziol; and two great grandchildren, Tommy and Korbin Koziol.
Funeral services were Aug. 9 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. The Rev. Greg Hall officiated. Military grave side services were conducted by members of the American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff, the V.F.W. Post 8223 and AmVets Post 20 of North Bend. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery.

Russell T. Soukup of Omaha, formerly of Morse Bluff, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, telling stories and memories of him, on July 21 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Russ was born July 10, 1957, in Schuyler to Anton and Gladys (Rezac) Soukup.
He grew up on a farm near Morse Bluff and graduated in 1975 from North Bend Central High School. He was a member of the Morse Bluff Volunteer Fire Department and worked at Hormel in Fremont. In 1989 he and his family moved to Omaha where he worked at Zalkin in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 2010 he started his own company, RTS (Rag and Textile Solutions, Inc).
Russ married Sandy Wobig on Oct. 11, 1980, in Fremont.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Omaha; son Blake Soukup of Boulder, Colo.; daughter Blair (Matt) SantaMaria of Los Osos, Calif.; brothers Tony (Linda) Soukup of Purcellville, Va., Jack ( Nancy) Soukup of Davey, Scott ( Susie) Soukup of Lake Villa, Ill. and Jerry ( Barb) Soukup of Morse Bluff; sister, Janel (Mike) Harnan of Des Moines, Iowa; granddaughters Elena and Adalynn SantaMaria, who proudly called him Pappy.
A memorial service was held July 26 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. The Rev. Gundar Lamberts officiated.Burial was at Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff.

Carl Winfred Watts of North Bend died July 19. Funeral services were July 25 at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Burial was at the Blair Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans.
Carl Winfred Watts, the son of Pleasant Hopkins Watts and Callie Mae (Amos) Watts, was born Nov. 25, 1921, on a farmstead near Burchard. He graduated from Blair High School in 1939. Carl served in the Army Air Corps from August 1940 to November 1945. He held a variety of jobs from Tech Sgt. Aircraft mechanic to eventually a 2nd Lt. Flight Engineer Instructor for the B-24 bomber. After his honorable discharge from active duty Carl moved to Blair and started his career in construction, first as an independent contractor and then later going on to work for Hagan and Son Construction Company in Omaha where he worked for many years as a professional brick mason.
Carl was a member of the Bricklayer’s Union Local #1 of Omaha for over 65 years. Carl was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blair for over 50 years.
Carl is survived by a daughter, Linda Miller of Goose Creek, S.C.; son Dan (Connie) Watts of North Bend; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and sister Lilly Roerick of Blair. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Donnie Merle (Roberts) Watts; and son James Steven Watts.

Ella H. Ladehoff of Fremont, formerly of Dodge, passed away July 19 at Nye Pointe Health & Rehab in Fremont. Ella was born Dec. 10, 1915, in rural Stanton to Emil and Sophie (Ristau) Wulf. She grew up near Stanton and moved to Scribner in 1930.
Ella married Rueben H. Ladehoff on April 27, 1937, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Pleasant Valley, northwest of North Bend. They moved and farmed near Scribner for several years and later near Dodge until retiring. Rueben passed away Nov. 1, 2000. Ella moved to Fremont in 2002.
Ella was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fremont and a former member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and of the Ladies Aid at church. She was a former member of a county extension club.
Survivors include sons, Harold (Gayle) Ladehoff of Lincoln, Harlan (Lavonne) Ladehoff, Harvey Ladehoff both of North Bend, David (Karen) Ladehoff of Arlington; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. July 23 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Michael Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, following lunch.

Ann Kavan of Morse Bluff died July 10 at the Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo.
She was born June 4, 1933, on a farm near Brainard to John and Anna (Benes) Scholz. She attended grade school near Loma and graduated from Brainard High School.  
Ann married Ruben Kavan on Nov. 23, 1957, in Schuyler. They operated a dairy farm near Morse Bluff.  She was employed at the North Bend Popcorn plant prior to working 35 years at the Rawhide Steakhouse in North Bend.
Ann was a member of the Morse Bluff Z.C.B.J. Lodge 9 and a lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 340 and North Bend V.F.W. Auxiliary 8223.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Ruben of Morse Bluff; daughters Ruby (Ray Jr.) Urban of Malmo, daughters Ruth (Steve) Bertone of Papillion, Deann Souza of Fredricksburg, Va.; sons Roland (Kinley) Kavan of Morse Bluff, Dean Kavan of Fremont; sister Albina (Cyril) Kellner of Wahoo; sisters-in-law Helen Scholz of Wahoo, Shirley Scholz of Crete; seven grandchildren, one great- grandchild; and special friends Nadine and Jerrine Racek of Morse Bluff.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Adolph, Rudolph, Ernest, John and George Scholz; and two sisters, Lillian Hennesey and Helen Kellner.
A funeral service was held July 14 at the Morse Bluff Legion Hall with Jerry L. Kracl speaking. Committal was at Killian Cementary in Morse Bluff.

Susie Kudlacek of Grand Island died June 18 at the Grand Island Veteran’s Home.
Susie was born March 20, 1920, in North Platte to Charles and Ima Yanagida. She was a 1938 graduate of Platte Valley School District 8.
In 1957 she graduated from the North Platte Beauty Academy and received her cosmetology license.
Susie was a cosmetologist in Omaha for several years. She and her husband, Bud, moved to North Platte to care for her mother and until their retirement had Bud’s 215 Bar in North Platte.
Susie was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in North Platte.
She is survived by her husband Bud Kudlacek of Grand Island; brother Roy Yanagida of Lincoln; son Ron Minobe of Denver, Colo., stepson Dwayne Kudlacek of Holdrege; stepdaughters Caryn (Bob) Moser of North Bend and Connie Moser of California.
Preceding her in death were husbands Jim Minobe and Vince Mullaney.
There was a private service for the family with burial of her ashes in North Platte Cemetery.

Kelly Dolezal of Fremont died June 16 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Kelly was born July 11, 1972, in Fremont to Kenneth Dolezal Sr. and Kathleen (Westphalen) Dolezal. The family moved to North Bend in 1985.
Kelly was a 1990 graduate of North Bend Central High School and attended Nebraska College of Business in Omaha. She returned to Fremont and then lived in Florida, moving back to Fremont in 2005.
She is survived by sons Logan Dolezal and Nolan Dolezal, daughter Molly Dolezal, all of Fremont; mother Kathleen Dolezal of Fremont; father Kenneth (LaZelle) Dolezal Sr. of North Bend; brothers Kenneth Dolezal, Jr. and Kirk (Christine) Dolezal all of North Bend, Kevin D. (Nichol) Dolezal of Omaha and Klint D. (Rachel) Dolezal of Oakland; nieces and nephews.

George Albert Havlovec died June 15 at Birchwood Manor in North Bend. George was born April 23, 1930, in Prague to Andrew and Mary (Vyhlidal) Havlovec. He grew up in Morse Bluff and attended school there.
George married Wilma Racek on June 25, 1955, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. The couple moved to Fremont and lived there for several years until moving to an acreage by North Bend in 1966. George was employed by Hormel Foods in Fremont for 38 years, retiring in 1991. His wife, Wilma, died Jan. 24, 2002.
George was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, the Good Samaritan Camping Club and the Fremont Eagles Camping Club.
He is survived by son Mark (Rita) Havlovec of Blair; daughter Sandy Talbott of Honey Creek, Iowa; son-in-law Larry Jessen of Homer; sister Hattie Claussen of North Bend; four grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
The funeral was June 19 at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Cleary officiated. Burial was at Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Vivian Elaine Wagner Nichols passed away on June 8 in Kernersville, N.C. She is survived by her daughters Mary Frances (Ralph) Thurston of Midlothian, Va., Kathy (Michael) Secrist of Kernersville, N.C., and Becky Kalinski of Omaha; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Derise, known as DL.
Vivian was born Nov. 21, 1920, to Lee and Mae Wagner of North Bend. She graduated from North Bend High School in 1939. Vivian graduated from Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, as a registered nurse. She worked as a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem, Va, for more than 35 years.

Randy M. Grieser of Scribner died June 7 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
Randy was born Sept. 17, 1953, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Marlyn and Ardene (Spath) Grieser. When Marlyn’s military service was over the family moved back to Scribner.
Randy grew up in Scribner and graduated from Scribner High School in 1972. After high school he farmed, worked at IBP, Boyle Electric and Poppe Construction. Randy then purchased The Bar in Winslow and owned and operated it for 13 years. For the last several years Randy worked as a handy man around Scribner.
Randy was part of the Barnyard Marauders band.
Survivors include children Ryan Grieser of Valley, Zack (Jo Fuhlrodt) Grieser of Hooper, Crystal ‘Cringel’ Grieser of Scribner, Butch Grieser of Macy; step-children Tim Kaup of Malcolm, Tammy Bose of North Bend, Ed Kaup of Uehling, Scott Kaup of Fremont and grandchildren Seth Bose, Trent Bose, Nicole Bose, Devin Kaup, Charissa Hoff, Derrick Kaup, Layten Cochran, Adam Limbach and Prezley Limbach.

Agnes A. Buresh of North Bend died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Agnes was born July 30, 1935, in Howells to Louis and Anna (Uhlik) Dostal. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Howells High School in 1953. She was employed as a housekeeper for several families before her marriage to Rudolph L.(Rudy)Buresh on July 24, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tabor, in rural Howells. The couple made their home on a farm south of Dodge until moving to a farm northeast of North Bend in 1958.
In 1991, when Rudy developed health issues, they moved to Omaha. Following Rudy’s death on March 20, 1999, Agnes moved to North Bend, where she was employed at Birchwood Manor until December of 2012.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend and St. Anne’s Altar Society.
Agnes is survived by five children, Ann (Donn) Penke of Kennard, Clara Osten of Carroll, Don (Joni) Buresh of Lincoln, Jim (Tammy) Buresh of North Bend and Barb (Greg)Bonifas of Aurora; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Dennis Dostal of Howells; nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 6, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. The Rev. Donald Cleary will officiate. Rosary/Vigil Service, 7 p.m., Thursday with visitation from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. all at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Leo’s Cemetery in Snyder.

Raymond Chromy of Linwood died May 25 at the Golden Living Center in Schuyler. Mass of Christian burial was May 28 at Divine Mercy Parish, Augustine’s Church, in Schuyler with the Rev. Carl Zoucha officiating.   
Committal was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Linwood.
Raymond Chromy was born Jan. 4, 1931, in Linwood to James and Agnes (Ustohal) Chromy. He attended country schools and Linwood High School.  
On Aug. 4, 1953, Ray and Edith Svoboda were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Linwood. They lived and farmed southeast of Linwood. Ray also worked as a Security Guard at Cargill in Schuyler.
Ray was a member of Divine Mercy Parish-St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Schuyler, Linwood Volunteer Fire Department, had served on the Linwood School Board, Coop Board and the Bohemia Township Board.
Ray is survived by his wife Edith and son Joe, both of Linwood, daughter Irene Chromy of Omaha; brother Dr. James (Carolyn) Chromy of Raleigh, N. C.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Leota Elaine Cahall, age 91 of Satellite Beach, Florida, went home to be with our Lord on May 24, 2014. Leota was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on October 29, 1922. She was the second daughter of Nebraska dentist Dr. Frank T. Fridrich and Loretta E. (Shabata) Fridrich. She grew up in North Bend, Nebraska, and graduated from North Bend High School in 1940. She attended nursing school in Nebraska to become an RN. Shortly after graduation, she answered her country’s call for medical personnel in the WWII war effort. When she arrived in Manila, Philippines, the Japanese army was still entrenched in this war zone. While rendering care to wounded and dying soldiers, LT. Fridrich met her future husband First LT. Donald Ray Cahall. LT. Cahall was a P38 pilot in the Army Air Corp. One of her favorite memories was the time he removed the parachute from his P38 in order to make room for the two of them to soar through the clouds together. After returning to the states, the two were married and Leota became the mother of five boys. Her husband continued his military career as she raised her brood. She dedicated her life to her family and was the pillar of support in time of need. While caring for the family, she found time to contribute to her roots by becoming the President of the Patrick Air Force Base Officer’s Wives Club and later the Patrick Air Force Base Retired Officer’s Wives Club. She loved to sing, dance, garden, grow orchids, and play bridge. She sang soprano in her church choir for many years. She was a member of the Eau Gallie Yacht Club in Indian Harbor Beach, Florida for 39 years. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic in Indialantic, Florida. She is survived by three of her sons and five loving grandchildren. Survivors include: sons Donald R. Cahall, Jr. of Cocoa Beach, Florida; James W. Cahall of Satellite Beach, Florida; and Robert G. Cahall of Satellite Beach, Florida. Five grandchildren: Donald, Elizabeth, John, Robert, and Christopher. She is preceded in death by her husband and sons John F. Cahall and Thomas M. Cahall. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Wilber Czech Cemetery. Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber, is in charge of arrangements, (www.kunclfh.com). Emily Scherer of Stanton, died April 21, 2014, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk. Emily was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Stanton County, the daughter of William and Mary (Hamsa) Molacek. She attended Stanton County Rural School District 40 through eighth grade and graduated from Clarkson High School in 1940. She worked in retail stores in Clarkson following graduation.
On Jan. 23, 1945, in Clarkson, Emily married David Scherer. They farmed in Stanton County until 1979, when they moved to Stanton.
Emily was a long-time member of New England Congregational Church in Stanton and was active in their women’s fellowship groups. She was also a long time member of the Clay Hill Community Club of Stanton.
Survivors include daughters Gloria (Michael) Simms of Lincoln, Nancy (Rodney) Johnson of North Bend; son Jim (Pam) Scherer of Clarkson; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was at New England Congregational United Church of Christ on April 25 with the Rev. Linda Kohler officiating. Interment was at Stanton Cemetery.

Ann passed away April 9 at the A.J. Merrick Manor.
Ann Marie Holub was born on July 26, 1925, in a farmhouse near Brainard to James and Mary (Voboril) Polacek. She attended school in Brainard and Weston. She helped on the family farm until moving to Omaha in 1951 to work. Ann later moved to Fremont and worked at the Pendelton Woolen Mill.
On Feb. 1, 1958, she was united in marriage to Ermin F. Holub at Weston. The couple lived on a farm south of Snyder.
Ann was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, its Altar Society and Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her husband Ermin F. Holub; son Donald (Susan) Holub of rural Scribner, grandchildren Stephanie (Kenny) Wurdinger, Daniel Holub, Jessica Holub; sister Lillian Belik of Omaha; brothers Milo (Rosalie) Polacek of Fremont, Leonard (Louise) Polacek of Wahoo; and sister-in-law-Geraldine Polacek of Weston.

Eugene L. “Geno” Hraban of North Bend died April 9 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. Geno was born Nov. 5, 1947, in Lincoln to James and Irene (Vokoun) Hraban.
He was a 1967 graduate of Weston High School in Weston. Hraban moved to North Bend in August of 1969 and was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. The last few years, he worked for the City of North Bend.
Hraban was a member of the North Bend Senior Center and former member of First United Methodist Church in North Bend.
He is survived by daughters Lynette Grovijohn of Fremont, Laurie (Tom) Riggs of North Bend; brother Larry Hraban of Weeping Water; sister JoAnn (LeRoy) Rosenthal of Lincoln; five grandchildren; and special friends Kathy and Francis Fischer Jr. of North Bend.

Lorraine K. Emanuel of North Bend passed away April 6 at her home in North Bend. She was born Nov. 6, 1931, in the family home near West Point to Philip and Kathyren (Schmidt) Rolf.
Lorraine grew up in rural West Point and moved into West Point in 1949. She graduated from Guardian Angels Catholic High School in West Point. Following high school she worked as a bookkeeper for Thietje Oil Company and HW & RL Baumans until her marriage.
Lorraine married Jerome Emanuel April 4, 1959, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. After marriage the couple moved to a farm northwest of North Bend and in 2006 they moved into North Bend. Jerome preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 2010.
Lorraine was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society both.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Diane Anderson, infant daughter Mary, and infant son Joseph.
Survivors include her sons Keith Emanuel of North Bend and Jeff (Stacy) Emanuel of Lincoln; daughters Deb Hoppe of North Bend and Donna (Michael) Buell of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. Memorial visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery at Clyde.

Rose F. “Polly” Pojar of North Bend died April 2, at her home. Polly was born Jan. 20, 1920, in North Bend to Elmer H. and Mary E. (Killeen) Hoffman. She was a resident of the North Bend area her entire life.
Polly graduated from North Bend High School in 1936 and then worked in several cafes in North Bend and later owned a café. She also worked at the North Bend Locker Plant and McGinn’s Grocery Store in North Bend. During World War II, Polly drove an ambulance at the Scribner Air Base at Scribner.
Polly married Albin S. Pojar on April 18, 1949, in North Bend. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1980.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society.
Polly is survived by her daughter Roberta (James Jr.) Sousek of Prague; grandchildren Jeff (Sandy) Sousek, Don Sousek; great-grandchildren, Samantha Sousek and Jacob Sousek; special nieces Dolores Rothanzl, Marlene Hoffman, Irene Herren and Carol Brettman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albin; sisters, Elaine Corcoran, Dorothea Hunzeker and Roberta Hoffman.
Funeral Mass was April 5 at St. Charles Catholic Church, North Bend. The Rev. Father Donald Cleary officiated. Visitation on Friday ran from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery at North Bend.

Delma F. Janssen of Fremont, formerly of North Bend, died April 1 at Shalimar Gardens. Delma was born Oct.18, 1921, in rural North Bend to Edwin and Anna (Roubal) Hull. She grew up in rural North Bend and was a 1939 graduate of North Bend High School.
Delma attended Wayne State Teacher’s College and Midland Lutheran College in Fremont. Shea taught school for 13 years in rural Dodge County.
Delma married Waldo F. Janssen on June 11, 1943, in Monterey, Calif, where he was stationed in the Army. The couple moved to the Hooper area in 1946 and lived there until moving to North Bend in 1969. They moved to Fremont in 2012.
Delma was a member of United Presbyterian Church in North Bend and a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. She taught Sunday school and Bible school. Delma was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8223 Auxiliary of North Bend and V.F.W. Post 10535 Auxiliary of Hooper. She was a 25-year member of Dodge County extension clubs, including the Neighborhood Rustlers Extension Club.
Delma is survived by husband Waldo; daughter Renee (Douglas) Rasmussen of North Bend; sons Don (Jerrie) Janssen of Parker, Colo., and Dr. Joe (Lynette) Janssen of Papillion; brothers, Roland Hull of St. Louis, Mo., Leland (Shirley) Hull of Torrington, Wyo.; five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father J.F. Farnham, sister-in-law Lilly Hull, and infant granddaughter Scooter Rasmussen.
A celebration of life service will be held May 10 at 11 a.m.

Joseph A. Spence of Lincoln, died suddenly in Tucson, Az., on March 29. He was born on June 2, 1961, to Richard and Phyllis (Stranik) Spence in Broken Bow.
Joe attended Lincoln Pius X High School before graduating from Lincoln East in 1979.
Survivors include his mother Phyllis of Lincoln; brothers Steven and Gregory both of Lincoln; Jeffrey of Tucson, Az.; aunts and uncles, Tom (Kathie) Stranik of Morse Bluff, James Stranik, Maribeth Stranik both of Lincoln, Holly Spence of Tucson,Az.; and cousins.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. on April 10 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 7601 Vine St., Lincoln. The Rev. Lyle Johnson will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Cedar Hill in rural Morse Bluff.
Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. on April 9 at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln.

Fern T. DeVoe passed away March 22 at her home in North Bend. She was born Nov. 4, 1912, at North Bend to Theodore and Lucy (Nestroyl) Greaser.
Fern grew up on Greaser Island just south of North Bend. She worked at the North Bend Bakery before moving to Fremont where she worked at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County (FAMC) for 21 years in the dietary - kitchen department, retiring in 1960. Fern married Burgess DeVoe on April 30, 1960, in Fremont. The couple made their home in North Platte where her husband was an engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad and Fern was a house keeper. Burgess died April 12, 1977. Fern then returned to North Bend.
Fern was a member of United Presbyterian Church at North Bend and played in a kitchen band for senior citizen homes around the area.
Survivors include her brother Douglas (Betty) Greaser of Washington state; four nieces and three nephews.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. March 27 at United Presbyterian Church in North Bend. The Rev. Neal Allen will officiate. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, North Platte.

Lou Filipi, 71, of North Bend died March 21, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.
Lou was born May 24, 1942, in Friend to Victor and Charlotte (John) Filipi. He was raised in Wilber before moving to Fremont. Lou graduated from Fremont High School in 1960. He married Marlene Ulrich on May 7, 1966, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. The family resided in Norfolk from 1969 until 2009, when they moved to Legge’s Lake, North Bend.
Lou worked as a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual since the age of 19. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend.
Lou is survived by his wife Marlene of North Bend; son Michael (Julie) Filipi of Battle Creek; daughter Sheila Filipi of Bloomington, Ill.; sister Linda (Ken) Kohlschmidt of Swanton; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. March 25 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend with the Rev. Don Cleary officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Jason Coe of Hooper died March 20 at his home.
Jason was born June 23, 1959, in West Point to Charles (Red) and Joan (Weaver) Coe. He was raised in Scribner and graduated from Scribner High School in 1977. After high school Jason worked at the popcorn plant in North Bend. He then went to Smeal Manufacturing in Snyder. While working on the floor at Smeal’s, Jason took classes at Metro Tech Community College, earning an associates degree in information technology. Jason moved into the computer department and became the head of the I.T. department.

He moved to Hooper in 2004. Jason also belonged to the LC Forum Motorcycle group.
Survivors include his mother Joan Killingsworth of Scribner, fiancée Robin Lierman of Hooper, her sons Benjamin and Joshua Lierman; sisters Charlotte (Sidney Smith) Coe of Dallas, Texas, Patricia Winter of Hooper; brothers Tom (Connie) Coe of Hooper, Bob (Marilyn) Coe of North Bend; nieces and nephews.

Lloyd F. Roubal passed away quietly in his home on February 22.
Lloyd was born August 8, 1927, to Frank B. and Ruth (Metzger) Roubal of rural North Bend, Nebraska.
He graduated from North Bend High School in 1944. Lloyd embarked on several adventures after high school following the harvest in the spring then working as a ranch hand in western Nebraska during the winter. He returned home to North Bend to marry Eva L. Flora on August 27, 1950, and farmed northeast of town where he grew up. The couple had five children. Along with his family, Lloyd was passionate about education and horses.
By the time all of his children reached school age, Lloyd became involved as a school board member of District 93. As his children moved up through the grades he became president of the District 95 school board and assisted his fellow board members ushering in the new North Bend Central Jr. Sr. High School.
Lloyd was a member of United Presbyterian Church and served as a Session member there. He was a member of Nebraska Shorthorn Association and an avid horseman, especially enjoying cutting cattle sitting an Arabian. He was known to invite friends and family out to the farm to ride and equally well known for baking kolaches and sharing them with some of his homemade ice cream.
Lloyd is survived by and will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, Eva Roubal; a son, Phil and Karen Roubal of North Bend; two daughters, Susan Roubal and Lori Sippel, Alane Roubal Vaughn and husband Doug all of Lincoln; son-in-law Ken Yount of Fremont; two sisters Aurzella Thiesen of Cedar Bluffs and Marie Petersen of Fremont; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy Harrison; and two daughters, Joan Okins and Betty Yount.
Visitation will be held at Moser Funeral Home in North Bend from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 26 with the family receiving visitors from 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Feb. 27 at the United Presbyterian Church in North Bend with the Rev. Neal Allen officiating followed by grave side services at Woodland Cemetery.

Cletus Robert Doernemann was born on Oct. 11, 1930, to John and Teresia (Pieper) Doernemann near Aloys. He attended the Hilly View rural school south of Dodge. He farmed with his father prior to marriage.
On April 4, 1956, Cletus was united in marriage to Donna Steffensmeier at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dodge. The couple purchased a farm southwest of Dodge, where he continued to farm. Cletus has been affiliated with Producers Hybrids of Battle Creek for a long period of time.
Cletus was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, served on its Parish Council, helped with the building of the church, and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He served on the board of directors of Cooperative Supply in Dodge and was a member of the Hart Parr Oliver Collectors Association.
Survivors include his wife Donna of Dodge; children Mary Lee (Jay) Bailey of Omaha; John (Donna) Doernemann, Jim (Lynda) Doernemann, all of Dodge; five grandchildren; and brother Vincent Doernemann of Dodge.

Gayle L. Chesley, of North Bend died Feb. 7 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
Gayle was born Aug. 29, 1934 in North Bend to Carl and Tillie (Racek) Chesley in North Bend. He grew up in North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1953. Gayle served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 13, 1953, until Oct. 6, 1955. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Gayle married Joan Abraham on May 31, 1958, in North Bend.
He was employed at Hormel’s in Fremont for 37 years, from 1958 until his retirement in 1995. Gayle was a member of AmVets Post 20 of North Bend.
Gayle is survived by his wife Joan of North Bend; sons Dave (Kathy) Chesley of Charleston, W.V., Tom (Evelyn) Chesley of Chesapeake, Va.; brother Marvin Chesley of Niobrara; sister Arlene Kracl of David City; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was Feb. 11 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. The Rev. Neal Allen of the United Presbyterian Church, North Bend, officiated. Military Honors were conducted by members of the VFW Post 8223 and AmVets Post 20 of North Bend and American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff. Burial will be at a later date at Killian Cemetery.

Charles E. Hovenden of Fremont, formerly of North Bend, died Feb. 3, 2014, at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.
Charles was born on June 5, 1927, in Pleasant Valley in Dodge County to Charles L. and Olive (Lawshe) Hovenden. He grew up and attended high school at North Bend. Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Dec. 5, 1945, until July 3, 1947.
After the military, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Adamson on Jan. 26, 1948, in West Palm Beach, Fla. They lived in West Palm Beach for three years before moving to the Purple Cane area, near North Bend. Charles farmed for 60 years in the Purple Cane and Webster areas and retired in 2001.
Charles was a member of the American Legion 340 of Morse Bluff, Fremont Fraternal Order of Eagles 200, served on the District 55 school board for three years, and former member of Purple Cane Methodist Church.
Charles is survived by his wife, Evelyn Hovenden of Fremont; daughters, Shirley Kolm of Sandpoint, Idaho, Carol Hovenden of Las Vegas, Nev., Nancy (Bob) Clausen of Fremont; his twin sister, Bonnie Ruzicka of North Bend; four grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were Feb. 7 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont where Chaplain Scott Jensen officiated. Burial was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.

John C. Beranek of Morse Bluff, passed away Feb. 3, 2014, at his home.
John was born Dec. 20, 1946, in North Bend to Charles and Virginia (Rousar) Beranek. He graduated in 1965 from North Bend High School. John then served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam from Jan. 17, 1967, to Jan. 15, 1971, as an airplane mechanic. He then attended University of Nebraska - Lincoln for one year and graduated from Milford Technical School.
John farmed his whole life. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 340 at Morse Bluff and a life member of VFW Post 8223 at North Bend. John was a member of ZCBJ and WFLA Lodge, both in Morse Bluff.. He was a certified HAM operator, a longtime member of the Pioneer Amateur Radio Club and held several offices in the club. John was a member of AARC region 5/6. His call sign was KC0KKE.
Survivors include his mother, Virginia Beranek of Morse Bluff and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Beranek.
Graveside service was Feb. 7, 2014, at Killian Cemetery.
Military honors were conducted by members of the VFW Post 8223 and AMVETS Post 20 of North Bend and American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff.

Delores Ann (Kavan) Nitz passed away and entered into eternal rest on Feb. 1, 2014, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center due to complications from pancreatic cancer.
Delores was born on July 10, 1935, to Albin and Mary (Pacl) Kavan in Prague, the fifth of seven children. She grew up on the farm southwest of Morse Bluff and attended District 54 country school and then graduated from North Bend High School in 1952. She enjoyed helping her parents while at home growing up with milking cows, tending to all the animals on the farm and also playing her accordion. After her graduation from high school, Delores worked at the Corner Café in North Bend from 1952 to 1954. She then worked at Gaughen Hardware and Well Drilling in North Bend from 1954 to 1962. At Gaughen’s, she was the chief bookkeeper and salesperson.
Delores met the love of her life, Jack Nitz, in June of 1952 and started dating. They got engaged in June of 1955 and were married on Jan. 14, 1956, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont. To this union, two children were adopted from the Nebraska Children’s Home in Omaha. After the wedding, they honeymooned in Denver, Colorado, and Dallas, Texas. When they returned from their honeymoon, they moved into the basement of Jack’s parent’s home northwest of Cedar Bluffs where they resided for nearly a year before moving to North Bend for a year. Following that, they resided on a small acreage west of Cedar Bluffs until 1962 when they returned to the Nitz family farm following the loss of Jack’s father, Joe Nitz. They resided on the Nitz family farm until 1999, moving to Valley View subdivision south of Fremont until her passing.
Delores co-founded Jack Nitz & Associates Auctioneers and Land Brokers with her husband in 1962, which she was vice president and chief cashier until her retirement in 2003. She also held her Nebraska Real Estate License and enjoyed real estate sales and auctions.
Delores treasured her family most of all and always enjoyed getting together at the holidays. She was very proud of her Czech heritage and her large, extended family. Delores was an avid doll collector and conducted many seminars over the years throughout the region. Delores always was willing to give of her time and enjoyed the many clubs and organizations that she belonged to. Her family often joked that after her retirement, her social calendar never had much room for work, but she always managed time to keep a wonderful home and yet still find time to be at every activity that involved her family. These organizations included the Nebraska & National Auctioneers Association Auxiliaries, the Red Hat Society, Newcomers, Altrusa, Extension Club, many 4-H Clubs, and so many more. Delores was inducted into the Nebraska Auctioneers Association Auxiliary Hall of Fame in 2009.
Delores is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Jack, son and daughter-in-Law Jay and Vicki Nitz and their children Courtney and husband Tyler Mensik of Morse Bluff and son Justin Nitz of Cedar Bluffs; daughter and son-in-law Jennie and Ray Rasmussen and their son Jeremy Rasmussen and daughter Piper Rasmussen; brothers Norman Kavan Sr. of Cedar Bluffs, Donald and wife Karan Kavan of Morse Bluff; sister Nancy and husband Jim Williams of Cedar Bluffs; sisters-in-law Marjorie Melton of Omaha, Agnes Kavan of Fremont and Dorothy Kavan of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents Albin and Mary Kavan, parents-in-Law Joe and Frances Nitz; brothers Albert Kavan, Sr. and Melvin Kavan, sister Irene Blatny and husband Ernest, brother-in-law Larry Melton and nephew Michael Williams.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, Feb. 6 at Sinai Lutheran Church from 3 - 7 p.m. with a prayer service immediately following at 7 p.m. The funeral will be Friday, Feb. 7 also at Sinai Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the service, a lunch will be served at the church with burial following the lunch at Sunrise North Cemetery on the southeast edge of Wahoo.

Aron S. Luckert of McGinn’s Lake near North Bend died Jan. 30 at Fremont Area Medical Center. Aron was born Nov. 24, 1978, to Kenton and Sherry (Hale) Luckert in Fremont.
He attended school in North Bend and was baptized at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in North Bend. He worked for the National Parks Service which allowed him to relocate to many different parks in many different states including Yellowstone National Park. He has lived in the McGinn’s Lake area since 2006, having moved there following the death of his brother in 2006.
Aron married Barbie Ulmer on Feb. 10, 2012, in St. Joseph, Mo. She survives. Other survivors include his parents, Kenton and Sherry Luckert of Effingham, Kan.; daughter McKenna Mendenhall of Clinton, Mo.; step-son Skylar Berry of North Bend; step-daughter MaKayla Berry of St. Joseph, Mo.; brother Logan (fiancé, Maggie) Luckert of Tonganoxie, Kan.; and extended family.
A funeral service was held Feb. 4 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend with the Rev. Scott Jensen, Chaplain at Fremont Area Medical Center, officiating.

Margaret (Marge) Ann Glodowski came to her eternal rest Monday, Jan. 27 at the Scribner Good Samaritan Care Center in Scribner. Marge had resided in the Alzheimers wing for the past two and a half years.
She was born on the family farm one mile south of Howells on May 2, 1928. She was the first of seven children born to Conrad and Anna (Ridder) Elbracht.  Marge attended and was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and School.  She was baptized, confirmed and made her first Holy Communion there. She graduated from Howells High School in 1946. She taught school for several years in three rural Colfax county K-8 one room schools through the normal training program. 
On April 14, 1953, she was joined in marriage to Ralph F. Glodowski from North Bend at St. Peter and Paul in Howells. They celebrated 56 years of marriage. Together Marge and Ralph lived on the family dairy farm, centrally located between Scribner and North Bend. Marge and Ralph were members of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner.  Margaret was a life-long member of St. Catherine’s guild. She served as a CCD religion teacher for over 30 years.  She was a Dodge Co. Darts and Lucky Lassie’s 4-H club leader for 41 years.  She was also a member of the Maple Creek County Extension club.
To the union of Marge and Ralph six children were born.  Kathy, Marian, Joyce, Jim, Jan, and Jerry. Marge was an avid gardener and loved to can and bake. She took great pride in winning several awards for her canning and baking at the Dodge Co.  Fair. Marge enjoyed attending the State Fair, watching and listening to Husker games, the World Series, and televised high school state tournaments. Her joy in life came from the short trips she took with Ralph, her children’ grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a morning person and truly loved her country life. She was a great cook and always had a hot meal ready for anyone. She looked forward to family and friend reunions, picnics, and hot dog roasts. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will always treasure the stories she told. Her kind, gentle, fun personality will be missed by many.

Jerald M. “Jerry” Kocour of Fremont died Jan. 24 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Jerry was born Sept. 3, 1943, in North Bend to Albert and Gladys (Jorgensen) Kocour. He grew up in North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
After his discharge, he moved to Fremont. Jerry married Sheryl Liester on Nov. 9, 1984, in Fremont. Sheryl died Sept. 1, 1999.
Jerry and his partner, Jim Mohr, were co-owners and operators of J & J Floor Care. Jerry was also a printer and worked at Emanuel Printing in Fremont for 35 years.
Jerry is survived by son, Zachary Douglas of Fremont; daughters, Danielle (John) Petersen and Tiffany (Rob Honkan) Mechamall of Columbus; 13 grandchildren; and companion Cindy White of Fremont.
Memorial services were Jan. 30 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Pastor Larry Jirsak officiating. Military honors were conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post 854 and American Legion Post 20. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Robert J. Wehner Jr. of Fremont died Jan. 23 at Nye Pointe. He was born March 6, 1928 to Robert and Marie (Raven) Wehner Sr.
Survivors include daughters Susan (Gary)Andrews, Nancy (Jim) Hoeft, Barbara (Kelly) Neilsen, Mary (Bill) Granger of North Bend and Casey Simpson: sons Tom (Laurie), Brad (Cyndi), Bruce (Rosemary), Bill (Denise) of North Bend, Jim, Mike (friend Karla), 44 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one blessing on the way.; sister Barbara Grow of Omaha; brother Tom (Darlene) Wehner of San Francisco Calif.. He was preceded in death by his wife Fae and parents.
The funeral was Jan. 27 at St. Patrick’s Church in Fremont with private family interment at Calvary Cemetery, Omaha.

Linda Sue Hull of Fremont, formerly of Cedar Bluffs, died Jan. 16 at A.J. Merrick Manor. Linda was born Oct. 26, 1941 to Leland and Huley Mae (LaRue) Pairish in Texarkana, Ark. She grew up in Oakland, Calif., graduating from Oakland High School.
Linda married David R. Hull on Oct. 21, 1960, in Hayward, Calif. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2000. They moved to the Fremont area in 1961 and then moved to a farm near Cedar Bluffs in 1966. She returned to Fremont in 2006. Linda worked for Pfister Seed Company, North Bend Eagle, Birchwood Manor, Camp Calvin Crest, and Cedar Bluffs Public Schools as a para educator, retiring in 2005.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Bluffs. She was active in the Flower Mission, the Presbyterian Women’s Organization. She taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon of her church.
She is survived by son David (Sheila) Hull of Morse Bluff; daughters Cindy (Tom) Kruse of Cedar Bluffs, Beth (David) Zimmerman of Wymore; brother John (Moe) Pairish of San Ramon, Calif.; sisters-in-law Merna Ruth Hansen of Herman, Gloria Maxwell of Onawa, Iowa; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A funeral service was Jan. 20 at the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Bluffs with Pastor Brian Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials may be given to Presbyterian Women’s Organization, the Flower Mission and Cedar Bluffs Public Schools.

Dorsel “Jane” Carmichael of North Bend died Jan. 14 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Jane was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Leigh to Emil and Josephine (Kumpf) Bakenhus. She lived in Leigh until moving to Fremont in 1940 and was a graduate of Fremont High School.
Jane moved to North Bend in 1951 and married William C. “Bill” Chapman on Sept. 15, 1951, in North Bend. He died January 14, 1963. She married Robert Carmichael on Nov. 29, 1967, in Schuyler.
Jane worked at several banks in Fremont, North Bend and Omaha and was a licensed real estate agent with N.P. Dodge. She was affilliated with Superior Hybrids Seed Company.
Jane was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, the church circle and St. Anne’s Altar Society.
She is survived by sons Tim (Revel) Chapman of Morse Bluff, Ron (Mary) Chapman of Orlando, Fla.; sister Helen LeGrande of Fremont; grandchild Ryan (Shannon) Chapman; two step-grandchildren, Adrian and Luis Guevara; one great grandchild, Gavin Chapman.
Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 18 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend the Rev. Don Cleary and the Rev. Robert Chapman officiating. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend.
Memorials may be given to St. Charles Catholic Church, the North Bend Library and the North Bend Senior Center.

Lynard J. Grant of Omaha, formerly of Morse Bluff, died Jan. 12 at his home in Omaha. Lynard was born in Omaha Dec. 4, 1955, to Lynard E. and Alice “Elaine” (Hugins) Grant. Lynard was baptized in a Lutheran church in Omaha. He grew up south of Valley and graduated from Waterloo High School.
Lynard married Debbie Wion and together they had a son, John Grant. They later divorced. Lynard moved to Morse Bluff where he worked for Bluffs Gravel as a dredge operator.
He is survived by his son John (Christy) Grant of Omaha; parents Lynard E. and Alice “Elaine” Grant of Blair; sisters Elizabeth Lynch of Blair, Vickie (John) Fisher of Mechanicsville, Va.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie K. Grant, and a brother, Jody A. Grant.
A celebration of life service was Jan. 17 at Moser Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Amy Krejcarek officiating. Burial will be at Bellevue City Cemetery at a later date. Tokens of sympathy may be directed to the family for a memorial yet to be established.

A celebration of the life of Donald Scheinost will be held Jan. 19. Visitation will be held on from 2 to 3:30 p.m. with a prayer service following at the McKown Funeral Home, 2922 13th Street, Columbus. There is no viewing.
Donald F. Scheinost was born Sept. 20, 1926, to Tony and Albie (Dobry) Scheinost in Ideal, S.D. He passed away Jan. 10.
The family moved to North Bend in 1932 where Don grew up, graduating from North Bend High School in 1944. He then enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Idaho during the Iwo Jima invasion.
Don was united in marriage to Betty Moore on Nov. 12, 1950, at the Nemaha Christian Church. He and Betty were married for 64 years until her passing in 2012. They moved to Columbus where Don worked as a manager at the Hinky Dinky Supermarket over 25 years before he retired. Don was a member of VFW 3704.
Don is survived by sisters, Eileen (Leonard) Dahlheim of Fremont, Norma Hamilton and Evelyn Winkelman of North Bend, and brother-in-law Dale (Ann) Moore of Denver, Colo.

Kathleen Semrad of North Bend passed away Jan. 3 at Saunders Medical Care Center in Wahoo. She was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Dodge to Jerry and Bessie (Killeen) Powers. Kathleen grew up in North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1945. She worked at Hamilton’s Total Stop for many years.
Kathleen married Leon Semrad Feb. 9, 1948, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Clyde. Leon passed away July 7, 2011.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society at North Bend and Morse Bluff American Legion Auxiliary Post 340 and North Bend VFW Auxiliary Post 8223.
Survivors include daughters Kathleen (LaVern) Krepel of North Bend, Jo Anne Krueger of Columbus, Patricia (Dale Jr.) Clark of Ankeny, Iowa, Cindy (John) Limbach, Teri (Steve) Hamilton all of North Bend, Deb (Dave) Stoupa of Lincoln; sister Betty (Tom) Carew of Omaha; 20 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was Jan. 7 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend with the Rev. Donald Cleary officiated. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery.

David Hubert Fiske of North Bend died Jan. 1 at his home. David was born June 6, 1945, to Ernest and Mildred (Zaun) Fiske in Valley City, North Dakota.
He grew up in Valley City and lived most of his adult life in Denver, Colorado, and the last 10 years in North Bend. He married Linda Johnson on Sept. 7, 1966 at Bakersfield, Calif. They later divorced.
He was the owner/operator of an upholstery shop and retired in 2010.
David is survived by a daughter, Melissa Fiske of Maui, Hawaii; nephews, Jeff (Johanna) Modahl of Scribner, Mark Modahl of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother Dennis Fiske of Granada Hills, Calif.; niece, Connie King of Bakersfield; great-nephew, Jeffrey Modahl, Jr. of Scribner; and special friend, Caroline Hake of Denver.
