Early in the second half Justin Sindelar stole the ball for Howells and took it in for a layup. On the next possession, Don Morrison found Sindelar behind the Oakland defense and hit him with a pass that turned into a layup to give Howells its largest lead of the night at 53-45 with 17:40 left. Oakland came back with an 11-3 run capped off by an off-balance floater by Terry Richards that banked in to tie the game at 56.
