George J. Kaplan, Omaha, Dec. 17, age 77
George Kaplan
George J. Kaplan was born June 20, 1945, and died Dec. 17.
George lived simply, but loved fully. He grew up in Morse Bluff, along with his big sister, Carol, and younger brother, David. George played high school sports and developed a love of the great outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.
George married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Miller, and together they had a daughter, Nicole, who was the pride and joy of his life. His love for Nicole was only rivaled by his adoration for his grandkids - Charli, George and Addie.
George served in the United States Army, then had a long career at the Omaha World-Herald before later stints as U.S. Postal carrier and, even, a blackjack dealer. Over the course of these varied pursuits, a couple of things remained constant – George’s love of family and his development of deep friendships. He cherished the times spent out at the lake with Carol and Doug, Jim, Barb, their spouses, children and grandchildren. George relished meeting new people and spending time with close friends, who are too numerable to list out.
If you spent time with George, you knew a couple of things – he cared about you and that “Life is Good.” Whether it was hanging out at hunting camp, serving on the Color Guard, spending time at the Legion, dancing at Bushwhackers or visiting Nicole and his grandkids; George loved talking to people and developing friendships.
George was extremely proud of Nicole, Charli, George and Addie. He loved them greatly and provided his unconditional support in their many pursuits and passions.
He was Cowboy George and a great friend to many, but he was Dad to Nicole and Grandpa George to Charli, George and Addie; in unique and personal relationships that conveyed his love and admiration for each of them.
George had a big presence and he will be missed greatly.
Survived by daughter Nicole (Dan) Dolan; grandchildren: Charli, George, Addison; sister Carol (Doug) Haase; niece Barb (Scott) Feldhacker; nephew Jim (Tonya) Haase; many other relatives and friends.
